I'm listening f hate all cardio except of course the stuff we do in normal life and I heard lots of other trainers talk about calorie defict etc., f it I can push myself and eat cream cakes Im 50 plus I aint gunna be no mike o hearn and I aint training to be a runner rower or anything like this because untill months ago I aint ever seen a gym in my life... wish I heard this before puts a whole new perspective on things. Some people knock the guy but he has stayed on top most of his life and learned more about things than any I have seen online. He is a good listener and a sponge to all the people that have taught him over the decades...just be the best you can be and take it easy ...in and out strive for meore each time. Dont go mad work on right areas and keep good form. I have lost four stones in divorce diet and a hundred thousand pounds already ...I actually dont give a s about much these days including and especially me ,,,,there is this one thing exercise does though = it makes it kind of adictive too....it gives me/you that focus on rebuilding you ,,,so dont let this world beat ya dot com. cheers for the advices good channel far and above me but if you cant learn from someone who has achieved all this who can you learn from. I actually am a teacher and I can tell you people learn better with a mixture of kinesthetics (doing) and by demonstration and Q&A and (listening) to advices and some by understanding the science of it all or common sense. You then reflect and follow but choice is yours a teacher only opens the door the learner has to choose to walk through it. There are so many you tubers so much advices they all repeat themselves and yeah can you keep it up I think though there is a bit Mike misses off and thats the benifit to your self he doubtless sees it because he is in a good place...There are more gains than just physique for me as even if I cant lift the weights I have lifted more because everytime I lift anything up. I lift me and my spirit, so if anyone else feels the same it means we are still here fighting this shit crap called life. And if you keep turning up to keep doing it that means one day we may all make it thro to happy days again.....blessings

I like training cardio with running while also bodybuilding even if I'm bulking or cutting. Why? Because I like to run. I like how running makes me feel after. Also I think it's cool to be able to run fast while being big and bulky. I don't go too strenuous either. I've slowly built up my endurance and speed. Finally what if I need to run away fast for whatever reason? Now I can run from any situation and not be caught hopefully.

Saying people in their 20s have it easier is total bs, this is what works for me, others are on gear and don't have to do as much. If you train smart you don't hurt yourself, metabolism only counts for so much but not when it comes to protein intake and what's placed as fat for parts it takes and what it doesn't. Mike is an extremely gifted athlete to be still in the shape he's in and to be pushing the weights he pushes. I'm an advocate of keeping it simple as a lot of guys coaching now like to complicate training. Mike trains old school as do I. He's 55 and in better shape than 99% of people half his age. He keeps me motivated as I'm 50 this year and know if u train right and eat right u don't need to look 50 or 55. I would recommend doing the High intense cardio a couple of times a week,my personal favourite is running some steep steps, then walk back down to let my busting lungs recover ,I do 6 to 8 climbs which only takes about 20 minutes . Makes my lungs work much harder than doing 30 minutes on the cross trainer. I have more energy and a better sense of well-being after just a couple of weeks and because of sending your lungs to another level I’m guessing that’s got be beneficial for lung capacity.

Not a trainer, but what I do... HIIT is it! once or twice a week for hormone, longevity and autophagy gains via sprint, jog, sprint intervals, jump rope, whole body stepper sprints, body weight, etc. HIIT HB 220 - AGE for 80-100% Max. Theory is to Spike HB within the range 8-12 intervals of go all out for 20-30 sec. then jog for a min then all out again and repeat. The fat burning walk is HB: 180 - Age and keep it there usually under your HB range starting out so you'll have to slow down! That right! Slow down your pace to 180 - AGE and walk for about an hour or so and cover five plus miles. This is a non stressful fat melting Chill walk. The cardio people are the ones you see at the gym on the treadmill never losing or making gains. I see the weights, cable machines, all other exercise machines and devices as augmenting the rest of your body depending on your goals: look good, athletic or muscular. I was forced to take a few months off while moving and after just two HIIT workouts I'm hitting my HB max range 80-100%. Note: for Older and elderly people see your doctor first before you try any of this. I've been doing this stuff a long time via my boxers workout starting late 70's before HIIT was a thing.

I watched a guy run 100 miles with both his feet broken in 19 hours. The night before he was in the gym squatting, deadlifting and bench pressing. The key is consistency and dedication. I want muscle and strength, but I also want a tank full of serious stamina. Cardio is King... Period. I want to be able to carry that muscle for 15, 20 miles if I need to. It's no good to me if I'm out of gas halfway through the second round.

Sure you can do it for months, even years, but eventually it catches up with you. I stick with swimming and elliptical and my joints etc are fine. But I used to run and bike and that stuff will WEAR YOU OUT. Train smarter, not harder, not easier, just smarter. Old school cardio tears you up. The purpose of cardio is to work your heart, not your knee sockets.

50% reduction in strength gains when weight training and doing cardio. So there are factually some disadvantages that people don't mention. It fatigues the body to say jog on off days of lifting. But if your not strength training or are not eating the excess calories and want to be lean then it's not neccesery as he said. For heart health? Yea routine cardio is statistically better then say strength. But I like both! (Dr Peter attia research on longevity)

Well said O'hearn , I'm 50 and have kept a solid physique since high school (although I don't shred like I used) and get asked all the time how how I look so young and keep my physical conditioning. I've said the same thing for decade. 1. I'm lucky with good genetics, so I take advantage of that fact by --> 2. I stay consistent with my work outs. 3. I switch my workout routines throughout the year. 4. try not to eat trashy. 5. Stay consistent.
I preach against fad diets all my life and people roll their eyes at it but all they need to do is look in the mirror.
I feel a bit vindicated. Thank you Sir.

I definitely agree 💯 with you I'm 55 yrs old 5'11" 230lbs 34" waist . Been working out for 43 years no gear protein shakes and creatine with amino's that's it. Most won't accept it because they're not disciplined enough without gear to make it...

You need to get juiced, like Mike. You are at the right age.

Powerbuilding: strength and physique. And fact of the matter is, there’s a bodybuilding physique, then there’s a an achieved muscular model vision. A better physique can lose on the stage. As a person ages, how many times have they compromised vs. how many times have they invested? It adds up, natty or not, independent of genetics. The invested people end up in a different stratosphere in a couple of decades. How many Mike O’Hearns are there? 1. We’ll see if more come along.

He's been doing this for "45 years" guys - juicing since he was only 8 years old. He's definitely gotta know what he's talking about.

I do cardio everyday like 20-30 just to warm up then 30 min light to medium weights heavy maybe once a week

Agree with some of the points but that advice is purely at bodybuilding which I get. However, for functional fitness you 100% have to do cardio. If you want to be a big lump that LOOKS healthy and has single digit body fat % … follow your advice 👍🏼 btw, respect what Mike does and what he’s achieved- he’s the GOAT in the physique department!

I averaged 20000 steps a day. I worked construction 6 days a week ave went to the gym to workout 5-6 days a week. Did a pretty intense stairmaster regimen at least 3 times a week. I did this for a month and now I'm laid up in bed with a strained right calf muscle from shooting hoops after an intense leg day. I also developed ITBS on my left knee a few days before I pulled my calf. I was doing way too much. And it reminds me of back in 2010 when I was overtraining my upper body and not eating properly and I was losing strength even after a few days rest. I really have to get in my head that slow and steady wind the race.
