I remember watching this live, back in 1995, in front of my TV. Didn't know the guy. Hit me like a fucking truck.
I was 19, and this was absolutly not my type of music, more into Pixies, Noir Désir, PJ Harvey and RATM kind of stuff. But I have been completly mesmerized and emotionaly touched. Don't really know how to express it...
Rare are the people with this kind of aura. Rare are the people who doesn't go in the same direction than everybody else.
For me, this song was written for Buckley, and for this one moment in particular. Just perfection.

"Rare are the people who doesn't go in the same direction than everybody else" you're so right there. Nowadays everyone sounds the same, there are just a few brave people that actually care about music and not about fame and money...shame on the music industry that they rarely support them. Hope I live enough to see another Jeff Buckley

That uh, The French Government had joined the long list of fools who insist on sending death sentences to this earth. This is for all the people who know that the only good place for a nuclear bomb is in the garbage dismantled. This is for Leonard wherever you are and this is for Nina Simone".

Jeff Buckely, Jimi Hendrix, David Bowie, Kurt Cobain, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Michael Jackson, John Lennon, and so many others. These truly special people were so in touch with their creative personalities. They knew their own voice, their own incredibly unique sounds. That's what made them great, that they could masterfully interpret the creative energy of the universe exactly as they wished. Jeff Buckley knew his sound, he knew his creative consciousness, whether or not he was even conscious of it. That is how he, along with those other amazing artists, are able to stun not only their immediate audience, but even so far as to reach the souls of listeners years later through speakers and microphones. Because their energy is so real.

Jeff Buckley’s cover of “Hallelujah” might well be his #1 success. The song was originally composed and recorded by Leonard Cohen in 1984.
Buckley began performing “Hallelujah” in and around New York City, closing his live concerts with it. Remarkably, his revved-up audiences would suddenly become as silent as can be.
The American performer eventually included it on his 1994 debut album “Grace.” However, the piece did not gain widespread attention until after his untimely demise in 1997, at age 30. 💙🎶💜
May you rest in peace, Jeff Scott Buckley (1966 - 1997)… 🌹

heard there was a secret chord
That David played and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
Well it goes like this the fourth, the fifth
The minor fall and the major lift
    The baffled king composing Hallelujah
    Hallelujah
    Hallelujah
    Hallelujah
    Hallelujah
Well your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you to her kitchen chair
She broke your throne and she cut your hair
And from your lips, she drew the Hallelujah
    Hallelujah
    Hallelujah
    Hallelujah
    Hallelujah
    Baby, I've been here before
I've seen this room and I've walked this floor
You know, I used to live alone before I knew you
And I've seen your flag on the marble arch
And Love is not a victory march
    It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah
    Hallelujah
    Hallelujah
    Hallelujah
    Hallelujah
Well, there was a time when you let me know
    What's really going on below
But now you never show that to me, do you?
But remember, when I moved in you
And the holy dove was moving too
And every breath, we drew was Hallelujah
    Hallelujah
    Hallelujah
    Hallelujah
    Hallelujah
    Maybe there's a God above
But, all I've ever learned from love
Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew you?
And it's not a cry, that you hear at night
It's not somebody, who's seen the light
    It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah
    Hallelujah
    Hallelujah
    Hallelujah
    Hallelujah
    Hallelujah
    Hallelujah
    Hallelujah
    Hallelujah
    Hallelujah
    Hallelujah
    Hallelujah
    Hallelujah

This deserves 10 million views, esp. after being posted a decade ago. I've known Leonard f Cohen's music & Buckley's version of this song for some time, but I only found this live video after seeing the Netflix biopic on Cohen last night. Thankseverso for posting this Johnny Red. 💔

why would 26 people dislike this? Yeah the songs been played to death...but it's still beautiful.

Perhaps because like me the thin tortured strains of Jeff’s voice and soft discordant refrains on the guitar don’t have the same impact of the sonorous voice and intensity that Leonard could impose on us. I personally don’t dislike this version, but I think the hype and sentimental jargon about it being the definitive version are overplayed. At the end of the day it boils down to personal subjective opinion.

I truly wish I was born earlier like in the 80s, so that i can witness his talents in my teens during the 90s. I was only 4yo when this was broadcasted. Jeff, you are truly one of a kind. May your soul rest in peace.
