- Spoilers for Psychonauts 2! Play that game already, it’s so good!!
Welcome to the longest animation I’ve worked on yet! 4 whole minutes and just over two months in the making, it’s for Psychonauts 2! This stemmed from my inability to get an amv started with a different song, and spiraled from there.
I worked real hard on this & I’m very proud of the end result, so I really hope you enjoy it!

Also I didn't say it in the original comment but the use of goggles to differentiate between the Psychonaut Raz and the kid Raz is just *chefs kiss*
I knew there was something about the goggles I wasn’t getting but that makes so much sense. Damn this video is so good
I like the detail at 2:32 where raz's goggles are extra shiny, making it look like he's about to cry

oh. oh this is so good. ive been watching this over and over again. i dont think i truly processed all the emotions in psychonauts 2 until i saw this and its amazing.
i know theres already a lot of comments talking about 2:35 but honestly this point in the video feels like a turning point you know. like raz learned about all that messed up stuff but this is the realization about the connection to *him* and the way you pulled it off sent shivers down my spine

I never knew Psychonauts and AJR went together so well! Not only was the child Augustus moment so impactful but the line at 3:10 fit so so well, I can't believe how easy you make it look to just, throw these things together and make them work!

LITERAL CHILLS ALL THE WAY THROUGH OH MY GOD
You ever watch a video that makes you wish you could like it twenty times? Because that's this animatic for me, it's just. Mmm. Chef's kiss. The tension of the animatic crescendos with the music perfectly. It hits you in the gut at just the right places. It's so, so successful at telling the story of Lucrecia and Ford and Raz beat for emotional beat. I've probably watched it 10 times in the last three days jdhdjwmdbfjdj, that's how much I love it.
This is amazing! Funnily enough, I was searching through RUclips earlier for psychonauts 2 animatics and tributes and was disappointed that I couldn’t find anything new, and now I’ve happily discovered this! Great job 👍

Favourite bits/additional pointing things out because I love everything: (SPOILERS!)
- every goddamn transition scenes
- the fluff then BOOM ANGST MWAHAHA
- additional scenes of what might've happened that we have not seen in the memory vaults since we didn't see Ford & Otto's side of it (and Lucy too but understandable that it'd be a blur to her in those times but anyway). JUST hooo man Ford trying to talk to her normally before Helmut attempts his performance about her, it going so wrong because Lucy sees and is reminded of MARONA :))))
- Lucy/Maligula is so freaking pretty yass
- You can see the peak EMOTIONAL DAMAGE on these characters AAAAAAAAA
- the frames at the beats ayayyayaya oh fellow others would agree how especially satisfying these are
- canoe canoe canoeeeee
- THE DANCE UWAHGH
- Astralathe scenes with Ford and Lucy, THEN then how it all connects to the Raz's Family, howhdhsd man very good reminding us of that dread with the door
- as I've said I freaking LOVE additionals scenes and Ford fighting Maligula is always in my brainnnnn, oh love to see how othercould that sceneskdhfgklajsdg
- uwahgh oh that oh that ending, really does fit how the song ends off too husah
I cannot stop saying this but BRAVOOOOOOOOOOOOOO *SHAKES EVERYTHING IN PURE JOY*
Ford panicking after Raz got pulled out of Nona's mind... Ouch. OUCH. Wow, everyone involved in this story needs 20 years of therapy, Raz now included. Can someone please take a hop into my boy's mind, make sure the caravan is still in working order? I think he's in need of a checkup after this.
Ho boy uh.... As far as fan made things go for Psychonauts, I think this might be my favorite thing. It yanks at the same heartstrings and makes me tear up in the same ways, and a few all it's own.
I'm gonna be re-watching this a lot in the coming months.

oh this is GORGEOUS. you absolutely smashed it, the pacing and story flow so well with the song and i'm amazed at how much ground you were able to cover? the relationship between Ford and Raz in PN2 is SO interesting and you do so much to cover that here through the visuals, augh, so good
2:38 Commenting again to say I really like how you had kid!Augustus the same height as Raz. Really emphasizes the fact the he was just a kid when everything went down.
Also @ 2:02, was it intentional that you left his hair white? Like did the fight take such a toll on Ford that his hair went stark white? If so thats really clever.

I can safely say that this is the majority opinion based on the fandom tags on tumblr. The poor boy, he had the most week ever.

God, I have watched this so many times. You’ve made one of the most beautiful works I’ve seen in any fandom ever. The timing and escalation and pain in everybody’s faces is incredible.
This came out so well!! Getting to see the progress was a treat and all the movement and care you put into it?? Absolutely incredible, this looks so amazing and I'm going to be thinking about it for weeks. The last shot is such a gut punch hot damn
I cannot describe to you how absolutely magnificent this video is. For starters, your style is absolutely beautiful, the movements and your understanding of all the characters and their designs is fantastic, the animated bits hit so hard and your use of lighting and transitions were so masterfully utilized to paint this gorgeous story.
The way you portrayed emotions especially literally made me cry, I've watched this about 18 times now and it might just be me being an emotional little guy but man oh man, the sad parts hit just as hard as the first time I watched it. Starring and ending with Raz's drawing with the new connotations was brilliant and the love put into this is palpable and I just love this so so so much with all my heart and soul.
I've been engulfed by the fantastic world of psychonauts already but watching this felt like I was experiencing it all over again, going through Raz and Ford's journeys right along with them. Even though I knew how it was gonna end, I was on the edge of my seat the whole time with the way you presented the plot in such an imaginative and heart wrenching way. Fr, I cannot say enough good things about this video, a million kudos and love to you man, phenomenal job!!!!!

Sooo insanely good! I adore the transitions and even though you were juggling a lot of overlapping elements everything is still so easy to follow (and painful to the emotions, agh!!) What a gem to come across, it's such an interesting dissection of Raz's relationship with his heroes and his hero.
Literally started crying near the end. Such a big story told in so little time.

I knew nothing about Psychonauts, but your cuts and timing and emotion and music and storytelling are all so beautiful. I read a synopsis of both game plots and it helped me follow more of what was going on, but a lot of the important stuff was apparant even without context. Really great job!
Psychonauts and Psychonauts 2 is such a deliciously emotional Never Meet Your Heroes story and you capture it so well in this animatic. It’s my favorite. I find myself returning to this whenever I reenter a Psychonauts phase. I’m so excited to see whatever you make next!
This is bloody beautifull i really love psychonauts i played 1 and 2 and i really love the characters and story this shows that you really know what the story is about and i and probaly many other people respect you for that!

Rewatching this a year later, it’s still one of the best psychonauts animatics I have EVER seen. The absolute love poured into this video is palpable. I love Ford and Lucy’s story so much 🥲.

More detailed toughts: It has been years since i've seen this videos and i wanted to put into words what i was too shy back then to say about it. As someone who is not ass big of fan of psychonauts but undertands how good the games are, how amazing their stories and characthers are, this fells like a geniune love letter to the series all wonderfully ilustrated with amazing animation and visuals that sync incredibly with the music, like the scene of the photo of the psychic 7 getting torn to reveal maligula ''is it you?, is it me?, did you find somebody better?''', the transitions between the first encounter with lucy to fords different memory levels while following the songs riffs? (idk what to call them, i dont know too much about musical theory) AND THE MOMENT AT 2:34, AFTER SEEING THE ENDING OF THIS GAME, COMBINED WITH THE MUSIC, MADE VERY EMOTIONAL, UNDERTANDING ALL THE STUFF THAT HAPPENS IN GAME, ITS A VERY GOOD SONG CHOICE. But anyways, thats what i wanted to say, your art is amazing, your understanding to time the songs with the visual is really good ( again i could talk alot about it, but im gonna keep myself short) Thank you for making something so cool!, i'd be happy to see more of your art in the future!, Cheers!!!!!!!!
