Gab avoiding Mikes creepy advances from the start are chefs kiss. Kind of sad that he isn’t unrealistic horror. And anyone who doesn’t get the creepiness is willfully oblivious

Agreed, there are typically three people I will watch play the same game if I can spare the time; Gab, Sean(Jack), and IGP. Gab is my first watch for this particular game. Also was going to say life itself is in a way full of tropes, doesn't make them any less unnerving and scary to hear about and/or find yourself in.
I adore how when Mike is trying to get Sydney to go fishing and Gab just wants to sit and read or puzzle, how the music really puts on that sad somber vibe to emphasize how much of a less relaxing time fishing is out in the cold.
especially after our girl Sydney just took a shower! wet haired, outside in the cold of winter FISHING IN THE ICE COLD WATER like come on. bestie's getting sick for sure 😅
The most shocking part about this game is that I watched 4 others play it, and none of them thought Mike was a creep. And then Gab makes me feel sane again by voicing all of my thoughts on this guy.
Back when I worked in an office, I loved being one of the last people to leave. You have your own little island of lamplight, there's no gossip in the background, no overhead lights hurting your eyes, just quiet and dark all around and you can really get work done.
The angle is even worse because he runs over from the corner and it does not look natural. I could understand if he was right there, but he zooms over just to spook you and then casually goes back to work.
I love how Sean saw you can turn off the eating and toilet sounds but was like nahh I'ma keep them on, while Evelien was like ahh finally we can turn those nasty sounds off lmaoo
I used to work 12hr night shifts at a truck stop, tell me about creep factors from men without telling me. 😂 I literally had to call security (truck stop/casino mix and security was round the clock) because a trucker tried hitting on me and I politely refused his advances (Married happily for 7 years!) and he stood outside the door and watched me for hours. I called security and he told the guy to get lost or tribal police would be called and the guy “left” but as I was clocking out at 5a, he was waiting by my car! I ran back inside and called security then the police showed up and banned him and his company from ever using their truck stop. My husband picked me up because I was about to have a mental breakdown. Ladies, that man could have easily kidnapped me, hop on the interstate and be in another state in less than three hours. I don’t care how rude you come off, keep yourselves safe first! ❤
I work overnights as a mobile diesel tech (I mainly get roadcalls to change tires) at a Pilot truck stop. I wonder if the squatter was someone the real Rick was related to...Rick seeming to know more than he should about him, the squatter being old and mentally off, the pretty official "no guests allowed" sign on the door, all of it seems very intentional. Maybe he's Rick's father? And the house genuinely was his dad's at first. Rick wanting to make money off the property, stuffing his dad into a little room in the basement as a "compromise" (elder exploitation) but not telling guests to get bookings fits imo. Rick just didn't take into account his dad's worsening mental state and expect him to do anything violent.
My first thought was that the squatter was an estranged, unbalanced brother, who thought he should have inherited the house from their parents instead of Rick.
My theory was that he was the previous house owner who for foreclosed upon and refused to give up his home. With his secret little room leading out the basement door he had easy access to the house without keys. He carved Home sweet Home into the corner of the basement doors and called it the same when you find him the first time. But the real owner being related to the squatter might explain why real Rick not told us anything he knew about him.
@@Jartran72 yeah that’s especially likely because the squatter mentioned that the original owner‘s mother had died in the basement…maybe he just couldn’t actually let go but had to sell for money and is just either insane or desperate enough enough to then go the squatter route
27:09 FINALLY SOMEONE WITH SOME TASTE. Adults who don’t eat the crust are literal children. Also, I love how you looked around after fishing. I knew I wasn’t tripping. Certain doors were open that weren’t open before. Another thing, if you notice, the fridge had 2 milk cartons. When you come back, 1 of them is gone.
As someone who lives near Vermont, it’s truely a state that has both chilling and gorgeous things about it. Snowstorms in New England in general are horrid, and Vermont has a LOT of “middle of nowhere” places since it’s known for the views and sights, there’s a lot of back roads with zero service through nothing but woods or farmfields. People are either very friendly or veeeeery creepy
After going thru this game like maybe 5 times, I finally realized fake Rick was living in that basement room. That's why he told them to stay out of that locked room. He was the one that left the fridge door ajar, and took the other carton of milk. He was a phrogger.
Well yes and no. He was getting into the house through that room since it connects with the outside through the basement doors. And he sleeps there while the house is rented out. But otherwise he takes the house for himself.
I wish the janitor interrupted you after letting you wash your hands. Every playthrough I have seen so far, nobody has even tried to after his jumpscare.
Out of all of the fears to fathom games, this one scared me the most. When the generator jumped out, I got so scared that I flicked my mouse off of my desk. This is my favorite chapter to date. I also cannot see that Mike looks like Mat Pat.
I worked as a janitor at a school for a bit. When the sun finally went down and it got pitch black outside, you couldn't even see anything out the windows. I'd walk down a few hallways that were lined with just pitch black windows and only see my reflection, and kept freaking myself out that something would pop up in the windows. Didn't help everything was completely quiet, you could hear a pin drop, but also you sometimes would hear light settling or utility type noises in the walls or something.
To Gab's question about how often Airbnb codes change: totally does not happen nearly enough. As someone who contracts my cleaning services to Airbnb home owners, most of them don't bother which makes my true-crime-listening-ass paranoid. They should alternate codes at least once a season and have a different code for their stock/personal belongings.
This and Norwood Hitchhike are the episodes I exclusively waited to see Gab play because I wanted to see another woman's perspective; these everyday horrors an overwhelming number of men are completely blind to. Not one man Sydney encountered was safe to be around for any length of time and I was literally shaking when Mike showed up at your room talking about how "frustrated" he is. What a niceguy.
OOoooh!! A new "Fears to Fathom" came out! :D I often used to work late in the office and was rarely the very last, but often one of the last 2 persons. It definitely has a "liminal space" vibe working in the office at night...
The reason is beacuse being robbed in your house or your ex coming to kill you isn't that common but encountering creepy men is sadly very common and the stories where our main character is a women could easily happen to everybody, and that's the scary thing. That how common these stories are and how they could easily happen to everybody anyday.
ive been scrolling to see if anyone posted the jumpscare timings and i found this. thank you for saving my anxious ass who still wants to watch this video 😭
Watched Jackaboy's, now time to watch Gab's playthrough. This is the the way. Another of these games that really makes my skin crawl and targets my own personal fears. Man, I love these games; some of the best indie horror games in recent years.
Coming from someone who used to clean houses that had lockboxes there were a lot of people that were homeless that would get the keys under the guise of doing a ‘house tour’ and make a copy. Return the original and then come back that night to sleep in a house. Then wed get a call to go back to clean the house even though we already cleaned it and they knew that people were making copies of their keys. 😤😤😤
They did a Mythbusters episode on toilets and when you flush it spreads particles all around the room, so even having a toilet in the same area as your toothbrush is gross. Closing the lid before you flush helps only a little bit.
Ooh i been waiting for this! My husband watched someone else playing this chapter and i was like "NO! im waiting for gab!"😂 (He said this chapter was the first time hes actually jumped at a jumpscare in years 😂) He was also pissed cause every time theres a horror story with a character named mike (his name) the dude is a creep or a crazy person. He was so shocked at how passive aggressive this guy was.
as soon as I saw the new chapter for this was released, I knew I had to wait for you to play it - you're the only one that makes the whole experience as creepy as it should be while also being enjoyable, I love it, thank you!
Watching you vs Jack do this is such a huge difference. Jack just blew past all the almost creepy moments from Mike, whereas you (just like I) had the skin crawling to find the nearest hole to die in haha. Also 10:16, is that a little irish man I can hear? Edit: Forgot to mention, but while you were fishing you can see the hitchhiker going over the bridge in the distance.
I love watching you and Sean play this. I watch Sean for the laughs and the expressions (he is a funny haha man) then you for that warm cozy chill vibes, which is hard to do with a horror game, but you pull it off so well lol 😅😊
On one hand, I'd initially expected The Casting of Frank Stone to last a bit longer as a story. On the other hand! I'm very excited to see a new Fears to Fathom game upload.
This game reminds me of my aunt. She had NO awareness of personal space and would stand so close. One time in the line for groceries, she stood so close to me her belly was touching my back and I actually had to turn around and remind her that personal space exists.
I kept assuming that Nora was taking so long to arrive because she schemed with Mike to arrive late so he would have time alone with Sydney. There's absolutely zero evidence of that but I was suspicious of her for so long lol.
If it's weird to be grossed out by taking food/drink into the restroom, I'm weird along with you. I wonder if the house was a situation where two relatives/stepsiblings/something were fighting over an inherited cabin, and when Rick got it, the other family member kept living in it and wanted to hurt anyone who rented it thinking it'd convince Rick to give it to him.
I freecamed it. The Hitchhiker kicks against the outside basement door leading into the room where Rick sleeps. Rick opens the door with a bang and the Hitchhiker runs off in fear for his life. My first thought was that he killed him but apparantly he gor away unharmed.
I'm with you on the food & water should not be in the bathroom. Related, I can't drink water from a bathroom sink. I don't care that it's from the same source, it just hits different
4:07 I swatted my spoonful of sushi bowl everywhere. We've gone full circle folks. I used to be so scared of horror as a kid - scared of all the jump scares. Now I expect them and I expect devs to tease a jump scare but not actually do it because it's too obvious. But here I am cleaning up my sushi bowl... cause a regular old jump scare actually got me.
I worked at a lab in university. On the weekend shift the lights in the entire building were always off when I finished. And I needed to walk through the entire dark, empty building to return the keys to the building itself. Let’s say: I learned how to sprint more than anything else during my time there.
love to finally see Gab upload her playing this game! also i can't stop mentally saying "aww" everytime i see her sipping from the awesome skull mug Sean gave her for her birthday 😄
Kudos to the FtF dev for once again making a game that accurately captures what it's like to be a woman. Mike gave me the ick so bad I wanted to dry heave. And fake-Rick and the hiker guy were even worse! I hate that we didn't feel safe even in our own bedroom. And btw, on Seán's video, I noticed that when you're fishing you can see the hiker walk by in the background to the left. Gab was looking too far right to see him.
Enjoyed going along for the ride with this video! Great scripting where even from the first phone call my SO and I were like...oh no *Mike.* Then the ewws and red flags just kept coming (equal mix of nooo stop, ouch that was laying it on so thick, fake out oh thank god it was the GPS not him revealing feelings, and omg Mike WTF man? Also where's your suitcase?). We were suspicious as Gab was with the owner (the door was not what we anticipated) but were plenty busy making our conspiracy charts for how much Mike was up to
I'm sad the Fears to Fathom series has come to an end, but thanks for playing them all, Gab! Weirdly enough, despite the subject matter, your playthroughs are my comfort videos and I love putting them on when I need background noise! Thank you for the great content!!

@@shigeminotoge4514 It had me going for a while 'drinking their pizza' is just a whole other level :'D
@@shigeminotoge4514 lolll very true!
The twist was so good I love watching everyone's reaction and you jump scaring Sean during his stream had me rolling
Decaf coffee is pretty scary lol
Gab avoiding Mikes creepy advances from the start are chefs kiss. Kind of sad that he isn’t unrealistic horror. And anyone who doesn’t get the creepiness is willfully oblivious
"Hold on, I want to play that game but I need to book that. I don't want to be a bad friend. I said I would-" Never change, Gab. You sweetheart.
Agreed! ❤
This is why I love watching different people play the same game, Gabs is the first woman I have seen play this and she is the one who clocked the fastest that the dude you first meet isn't the real Rick and is just a creepy squatter. I guess its just a womans vigilance and intuition.
Or one of the oldest and most tired out tropes in horror..
I agree!! I watched Sean play it first, and was very excited to see how fast Gabs picks up on stuff 😂
The hug comment from Mike instantly grossed me out
@@Zach-p4e6p if it was them why didn't every single other person I've watched play this figure it out right away? Also you do remember that these episodes are created from real stories that happened to people? You can't really call that a trope since it was just real life. Also you just sound super jaded, these games are just that, games to have fun with and your first thought was to diminish that fun and that makes me sad. I hope in the future you can figure out how to bring the mood and people up instead of bringing things down. Have a good day friend 🫶😊
@@Shadowcat31I was going to say, if it’s a tired trope, how wasn’t it spotted by everyone immediately then… but as you said they got bitter over your comment for some reason so they just have stuff to work through💀
Agreed, there are typically three people I will watch play the same game if I can spare the time; Gab, Sean(Jack), and IGP.
Evelyn being such a people pleaser she conned herself out of a mini game 😂😂
The real horror was having Mike as a friend.
The guy is not a best friend, he's a worst friend.
@zoomer9686found the parasite lol
@zoomer9686 Oh yeah, and how do you plan to teach them?
@zoomer9686 lol found the self-proclaimed harasser
@zoomer9686are you okay?
@zoomer9686trump 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 yea right parasite
As someone who grew up in a suburb called Woodbury, the developers really came for my throat with this one 😭
How convenient
I got scared seeing "Woodbury" in the game title too like oh god thats right next to me😭
LITERALLY !!! i live right next to a woodbury
The most shocking part about this game is that I watched 4 others play it, and none of them thought Mike was a creep. And then Gab makes me feel sane again by voicing all of my thoughts on this guy.
I've only seen one other person play so far but 8bitryan was pretty creeped out by Mike, just in case anyone was curious to see another reaction.
Were those gamers guys?
@@TheLastHylianTitan Yep!
@@JWildberry oh? can you name them please? because every guy i've watched play this noticed he was creepy too. it's like super hard to miss lmao.
Back when I worked in an office, I loved being one of the last people to leave. You have your own little island of lamplight, there's no gossip in the background, no overhead lights hurting your eyes, just quiet and dark all around and you can really get work done.
I rarely get jump scared but that first one GOT ME 💀
OMFG lmao that one got me good hahah
bro it was so loud for no reason
The first one made me JUMP and get tingly hands, and I had the video small in a corner of the screen
Exactly. I was seating next to my mom and I jumped a bit so my mom just smacked my head 😂
The angle is even worse because he runs over from the corner and it does not look natural. I could understand if he was right there, but he zooms over just to spook you and then casually goes back to work.
17:44 oh my gawdddd this is so awkward 🫣 it feels like he’s trying to manufacture a romantic moment
mike was definitely a "where's my hug" kinda guy in high school
You just unlocked some dusty buried memories 😂
He is now too lol
I love how Sean saw you can turn off the eating and toilet sounds but was like nahh I'ma keep them on, while Evelien was like ahh finally we can turn those nasty sounds off lmaoo
I used to work 12hr night shifts at a truck stop, tell me about creep factors from men without telling me. 😂
I literally had to call security (truck stop/casino mix and security was round the clock) because a trucker tried hitting on me and I politely refused his advances (Married happily for 7 years!) and he stood outside the door and watched me for hours.
Theres only two girls the work in the store at night, all night, and they have my number for situations just like this. Theres been a few times Ive gotten a call from them to chase off a very overly pushy truck driver. Its also why I conceal carry (my boss allows it due to some of the areas we go to arent exactly the nicest areas.)
@@christophermoreland3238 thank you my good sir! You indeed are doing the Lord’s work! ❤️ I just hope there are more men like you out there to help us ladies out. It sucks we are even in a situation like that, but a job is a job to make ends meet sometimes. It never makes not taking no for an answer okay.
@@christophermoreland3238 I’m glad you kept them safe! I’ve had some supervisors who are straight up like “nah it’s fine” towards creepy stuff like that
That in itself could be one of these games 😭 I’m glad you’re safe though! And you’re right. One interaction with that creepy man and you may be a missing person..
i love these games and i’m sad to see the series end, but hopefully the dev has plans to make similar games in the future!
The dev already said there would be a season 2
@@frname7665no way that’s awesome!! looking forward to seeing gab play it
@@arcadiabutterfly Not only season 2 but also a co-op mode by the name fears to fathom together. Next year he'll also release season 1 on console. Rayll is cooking.
@@msmohit515 that makes me so happy to hear it’ll be on console! up until now i’ve just been watching gab and jack play the series because i couldn’t
Yes he’s got a team now so it’s cool to see how much they’re able to accomplish!
I will never ever get tired of these types of reveals. It works so well, the pure dread and horror you feel when that message comes in and you're staring face to face with this complete stranger is so fucking terrifying i love it.
I really like your theory!
I feel bad for Sydney, her vacation was gonna get ruined no matter what cabin she choose 😩
Yes! Also what Gab said about the ghost story he told - a coverup for any possible noises he might make
Well yes and no.
Developers, if you give an option for no eating sounds, please make sure the eating sounds turn off 😭 26:52
26:59
no need to waste 7 seconds, right?
I know it is like part of the "awkward" signature of those games that add to the unnerving tension and dadaist weirdness, but just toooooo much.
immediately when gab said to watch "Barbarian" I paused the video to go watch the movie. It was so unexpectedly good
Out of all of the fears to fathom games, this one scared me the most. When the generator jumped out, I got so scared that I flicked my mouse off of my desk. This is my favorite chapter to date.
I also cannot see that Mike looks like Mat Pat.
When I watched Sean play this I literally threw my phone at that first jumpscare! Simple yet so well done. I’m excited to watch your take on this!
The real horror of this episode was eating pizza with NO drinks! Oh that humanity! 😩
As well as never having the door in the basement not have any relevance
Finally, someone noticed the missing milk!
I love the idea of walking around a pizza place and just judging everyone's choices up close 😂
OOoooh!! A new "Fears to Fathom" came out! :D I often used to work late in the office and was rarely the very last, but often one of the last 2 persons. It definitely has a "liminal space" vibe working in the office at night...
I really like the quiet liminal space vibe, but one noise that should not be there and it's creepy. Also, the going home late thing sucks.
The fears to fathom with women protagonists are the best ones as they feel the most real to me with how scary the guys are
The reason is beacuse being robbed in your house or your ex coming to kill you isn't that common but encountering creepy men is sadly very common and the stories where our main character is a women could easily happen to everybody, and that's the scary thing. That how common these stories are and how they could easily happen to everybody anyday.

Not ideal but I also don't want to force them to sleep outside.
They did a Mythbusters episode on toilets and when you flush it spreads particles all around the room, so even having a toilet in the same area as your toothbrush is gross. Closing the lid before you flush helps only a little bit.
It helps *a lot* actually, but it is a good idea to put one's toothbrush into the sink cabinet after use and only take it out _to_ use.
I remember watching this stream and being super creeped out by literally every guy. 😂 It was gratifying to see Gab be just as creeped out.
as soon as I saw the new chapter for this was released, I knew I had to wait for you to play it - you're the only one that makes the whole experience as creepy as it should be while also being enjoyable, I love it, thank you!
I wouldn't say he blew past it, he was very vocal in his dislike to Mike and his weirdness.
@@fire34fly Yeah definitely, but I meant in the romantic fashion. Gab picked up on that a lot more. Jack definitely had a disliking for Mike Pat.
I love watching you and Sean play this. I watch Sean for the laughs and the expressions (he is a funny haha man) then you for that warm cozy chill vibes, which is hard to do with a horror game, but you pull it off so well lol 😅😊
Yaaayyyy, as soon as I saw jacks video i was so eager to watch gabs play. This is one of my favorite of fears to fathom. So cozy ❤
You know, they keep saying "there's no cops" but you literally passed a police car as you drove into the place.
This game did such a good job of throwing suspicion on everyone I was even suspicious of Nora and she wasn’t even there 99% of the time 😂
I kept assuming that Nora was taking so long to arrive because she schemed with Mike to arrive late so he would have time alone with Sydney. There's absolutely zero evidence of that but I was suspicious of her for so long lol.
I have to chuckle, because every playthrough I’ve watched has Chat saying he looks like MatPat, but I personally think he looks more like JacksFilms.
The music for the fishing part is so absurdly soothing that you'd think were playing Minecraft if you closed your eyes.
I love that Gab guesses the twist (sort of) almost immediately before meeting "Ricky", that was beautiful in multiple ways.
AND THAT SHE IMMEDIATELY GUESSES THE ACTUAL TWIST RIGHT AFTERWARDS TOO!!
53:30 meanwhile us during seans stream "LMAOOOOOO OMG ITS MIKEPAT HAHAHAHA" "HE LOOKS LIKE MATPAT" "IS THAT MATPAT?????"
1:26:50 It's possible that the scream was from the creep from the pizzeria getting attacked by "Rick"
It is
He was banging on the door to the basement which is outside the house and rick barges out so the pizzeria creep screams
I think I had some sort of immunity when I was a child.
Now I am terrified😂.
Wow! @14:01 I was just thinking "nah, grab bag, find other transport" as you were saying it!
Love love LOVE that the dev took on constructive comments and improved as each chapter came out
Makes my heart happy
Kudos to the FtF dev for once again making a game that accurately captures what it's like to be a woman. Mike gave me the ick so bad I wanted to dry heave. And fake-Rick and the hiker guy were even worse! I hate that we didn't feel safe even in our own bedroom. And btw, on Seán's video, I noticed that when you're fishing you can see the hiker walk by in the background to the left. Gab was looking too far right to see him.
I have been rewatching all your old Fears to Fathom games too. They are so much fun to watch while i am working. Thanks for the great content!!

26:45 Welcome back to Mysophonia Simulator
Being the last one in a big office like that is SUPER creepy, even during the day lol. Love how you move through slowly and appreciate the game! xx
The chips hitting the desk made it so much funnier when I just happened to pause at the right time lol
Mike’s character has to be the worlds worst red herring ever😭creeped me tf out
ain't no red herring! dude is still a villain for sure! just that the game ended before his time XP
Love watching everyone play these games but especially Gab, she just gets how female-led stories like this one and Norwood Hitchhike are terrifying in a way male youtubers dont.
