i think what makes Maynards voice so captivating is how he ebbs and flows between a vaguely feminine and vulnerable state to burst forward into an overtly masculine and bitter primal roar. so it ignites something in us that is unconsciously understood.

Yes! I love the way you explain Maynard's lower and higher vocals. I think when most people think of Maynard's vocals they think of that incredible scream he can do, but there is so much more to his voice! The emotion he creates in his lower range is so moving! Which I would argue that the most important thing about a vocalist is their ability to create the emotion that they want you to feel. Great video!

Good attention to the details, all those subtleties really go undetected to a casual listener. I'm a new sub but i've already watched most of your videos, I've seen the Myles Kennedy video and man, this format is awesome (so are your highs on "broken wings"). Keep it up!

Hey Chris, I realize that this would be taking the channel in the dreaded gear-head direction, but, would you ever consider doing an episode on your vocal chain and your rig? Your voice comes through crisp and clear, it's a joy to listen to, and it would be great to learn from your process and setup.

Baritones can do that, I'm a bass-baritone and honestly your "natural" range is actually where you body has gotten comfortable and where it feels good for them, so once you break that by lowering your falsetto, raising your chest, and gaining a strong mixed voice, you end up able to do things you think you wouldn't be able to do as a "baritone", or whatever irrelevant term is used. The only relevance those voice types hold is in styles where that matters, such as operatic, or some types of theatre. But with enough practice you actually can break your own mold and be able to do that.

Have you considered doing a video like this on Corey Taylor? His range is pretty huge, and he can maintain the top of his chest range with fry for concert after concert, especially with his stone sour stuff. I've been analyzing and recording myself with various vocalists that I like, and I can usually get pretty close with the techniques you've been teaching with your fantastic list of singing tutorials! But I cannot seem to copy much off of Corey Taylor on my own. Please consider doing a Corey Taylor video!
