Yeah Kurapika from the 99 version was one of the sickest MCs out there. He seriously got nerfed in the 2011 version in all honesty. This savagery was killer stuff that we needed more of
I completely agree. He was on a whole different plane altogether compared to most MCs out there
I wanted to see him for the most part in the series ;-;
i still haven't seen the 99 version (will do it soon tho), but for what ive seen, killua also got nerfed a bit, for example during the Hunter "challenge", when there were gon, killua, kurapika, leorio and tonpa vs some prisoners, in the 2011 version killua "covers" the heart up and all you can see is the cloth it was covered with, but in the 98 version you can actually see the real heart
@@giuliiii7 the York new city arc in the 99 version is awesome way better than 2011 but the hunter exam arc is arguably weak... I think both are good maybe is 2011 is a little better but I still prefer 99

To understand why HxH 1999 version is the superior version, one just has to look at who directed it, and all your questions will be answered.

That’s not the real reason why. The other reason is because it’s an OVA: they had better budget and less episodes. Meaning animators could do better work focusing on just a few.
The director has worked on other shows that don’t look as good as this. (Because they weren’t OVA’s)

OVA’s have higher budget. More money equals more time for animators to animate. 1999 also had less episodes and they all didn’t look as good as these ones with Kurapika in York New. These were the best out of the bunch.

I do not quite understand why you are arguing with me, HxH 1999 had an ordinary production schedule and a meagre budget, I am not sure you realise but anime in the 90s and early 2000s were in a very shoddy state as the industry was facing severe economical crisis, Nippon Animation no different.
The reason the 1999 looks better is just art direction and the skillset of those working on it, nothing to do with budget, I find it insulting that you just downplay these amazing people who made HxH down to "money" being the reason, animators were also paid less in the 90s then when HxH 2011 was made.
Arguably HxH 2011 has way more fluidity in its animation too, but I hate the art direction in it, appaling and childish whereas 1999 OVA was brutal and dark. I also suggest looking up anime cheats, it makes you familiar with anime production and the techniques they utilise to "cheat" on the production in order to save time and money. A popular cheat is the 2s - 3s - 4s and even 6s and 8s timing they use for animating, the anime runs at 24fps but the animation is drawn according to a timetable and the necessity of fluidity.

Kurapika’s the only character I wish they hadn’t changed. They not only turned him into a girl (fine he has a ✨deek ✨ but what was the reason??💀) but made him look so much softer, much less determined and traumatized. It’s honestly confusing, they made him look out of place with the story with a petty grudge
