I think he had a real 'Cinderella' transformation during those last years of his teens, going from nerdy glasses and plainer attire, to wearing contact lenses that revealed this ridiculously gorgeous young man, and of course the makeup and cool clothes of the New Romantic era which he adopted. Before that, I think he was quite self-conscious and didn't have girlfriends until he left high school. Even Andy states in his biography that even with the glasses and nerdy style, when he first met John, he could see he was incredibly good looking and honestly thought the glasses were a jokey way to downplay his obvious good looks - though he truly needed them due to severe myopia. At this point or maybe in the months before this though, as Duran Duran were becoming serious teen idols and world famous, he started sleeping with a lot of girls on tour all across the world, he was known as the heartthrob who could bed pretty much any girl he wanted on tour. He even mentions how in the USA, on their booklets that detailed the hotel, setlist, times and venue info, the managers started putting the age of consent for that particular State they were in; so 21/ 20/ 18 etc. because John could so easily bed a girl within an hour of meeting one in the lobby, as he later confessed, that the managers were afraid he would break the law unawares, especially if he had been drinking/ taking drugs. However, he stated years later that the attention from fans got too intense and depressing after a while, as he never wanted that level of obsession from others, or less focus on the other band members.
I’ve only just realised watching this, how good natured and lacking in arrogance JT seems. And a good sense of humour too. Quite remarkable really because most people are a bit nob-ish in their early 20s and that’s without even being in a hugely successful band, and so beautiful that they can’t beat the birds off with a s****y stick. Uber fame and privilege probably changed all that, I would imagine. I love their purity at this stage in their careers, right down to the accents, before they got all mid transatlantic. If only you could bottle the wonder of youth and the promise of the future and drink it in once your best years were behind you as a sort of liveable souvenir, I certainly would.

I love JT like everyone else but Andy is soooo entertaining. Dare I say underrated in general. He's hilarious and feels so REAL all the time. and yeah JT's smile is beautiful but so is Andy's. :)

So a town with a larger millennial population mostly seems much more interesting to them. At the time, I worked with a young lad who (I kid you not) was a cross between John & Nick. Mainly JT but not the square jaw - that was more like Nick. We used to be besieged by teenage girls looking through our shop windows at him. All the time. His dad said he used to walk down the street and every female - regardless of age - turned their heads.
Andy was my favourite member when I was a teen in the 80’s, but my friends used to jokingly rib me about why. I only went to school with one other girl who liked him as most fans went for John or Simon. John was certainly the player.
