A lovely blog, as a Cornishman living close to St Ives (in a village near Hayle) but travelling to London for work fairly often - I empathise with the journey length. We have the same experience travelling UP to the Lake District (10 hrs in July). Cornwall is a wonderful place tp live, however, the sad thing is that tourists visit only the “hot spots” which means they miss that vast majority of Cornwall we know as locals. It also causes awful congestion in certain areas. Just please don’t be tempted to buy a second home here -it’s caused total desolation of places like St Ives and Mousehole etc For a true picture of Cornwall by the way, come down in the winter when the second homes are empty and the shops are shut because the towns are dead - especially St Ives and Newquay etc Final note - locals dread summer but know we need the tourists. It just makes it a crap place to live unfortunately, our homeland becomes a theme park.

Great Vlog! My first holiday in St Ives was in the late 1960's before moving down here in 2002. All the family used to come down every year. We stayed at the Carrack Widden apartments back in 1983 when they were first built! Fantastic views! Cod & chips at the Balancing Eel were £3.65 pp back then and bigger portions! 🐟🍟Everything is so expensive down here now, especially since the Tate Gallery was built in 1993 bringing in more tourists💰Hope you and your family visit again soon.
Thank you😊 Wow sounds like you've had a some great times in St Ives and you must have seen some big changes too! I would have just been a few months old back in 1983, it's a shame there isn't any vlogs from back then, it would have been great to see the difference lol And yes we definitely noticed the expense of food, but it's such a beautiful place, it must be wonderful to live there. I live in Cornwall and I must say, I've fallen out of love with St Ives recently. It's beautiful but has been hollowed out by tourism. It's a theme park now really. I've moved to Penzance, which has a lot more going for its residents.
Oh really, I guess it's different for you having seen it change through the years and watch it get busier. We went in June and loved it but maybe different if we went in the high season, glad your happy in Penzance now 🙂
Agree 100%, very sad - it’s lovely to look at if you look in the right places. But as with every Cornish town the simple fact is that social deprivation is always behind the curtains - in st Ives case most definitely. Tourists are seeing an “idea” of what Cornwall is, not the true Cornwall we live in. Just a fact of life.
@@richjackson8349 So true. Before moving away late last year, I volunteered at St Ives food bank. Shocking. 70% of users were in work. In half of those, both adults were working. And 20,000 on the social housing list in Cornwall. There is something rotten in the kingdom of Kernow.
Glad you enjoyed the video, and yes completely agree with your comments but the music helps me bring all the short clips together into one section but will keep that in mind, thanks
Hi , I live in Edinburgh, never been to Cornwall before, and planning to visit the area with my small family( 3 adults) for one week using my own car (about 10 hours driving) between 15 August -15 September! Any advice from your experience to make this trip successful ( best time ,itinerary, accommodation,..etc) is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Hi sorry about the delay we were on a day out yesterday so have only just got around to replying. I would say if you can go when kids are in school then definitely take advantage of that as everything is always nicer when it's less busy. September is a great time to go but just like July we really can't depend on the weather so it's always a risk but definitely one of the best times to go. If you are taking your car find an accomodation that has a set parking spot as parking is really hard so if you have your own space then you don't need to worry. We were on the outskirts of st Ives with a 5 minute walk to the harbor which was perfect for us, we loved being near to Porthminster beach which made our hoilday. Take advantage of the public transport, the train station next to Porthminster is only £1 to get to carbis bay (the next beach along) and it is stunning and is a must to visit. Porthkidney beach is also amazing. For days out as shown in this video we visited paradise Park which was lovely for kids and we really enjoyed that, and the Minack Theatre and porthcurno is so beautiful but could be hard work with young children. But definitely take time just to explore St Ives and enjoy the beaches and let the kids play in the sand and the shallow waters. Porthminster really was our favorite and the calm harbour sea. But be warned everything is up and down hills so can be quite walking sometimes. And make sure to watch a sunset on porthmeor beach one evening 😊
Hi, i’m planning to do the same as well in September. Is it ok to tell me the name of the lodge you stayed at? It really looked beautiful. We’re planning to go from Manchester to St. Ives and we’re a family of 5😊
Hi, our accommodation was an apartment over Porthminster beach called Carrack Widden apartments and they can be found on booking.com. but ours was only suitable for a family of 4, but they may do bigger ones 🙂 I hope you have a great holiday in September 😃
Hi, we stayed at Carrack Widden apartments which looks over Porthminster beach, there were also different apartment blocks along the same road so a few different places to chose from, we found ours on booking.com.
Lol no just the north east of England, it takes 8 hours to drive but the train is much easier, and with the couple of change overs it took 10 hours all together! It takes 6 hours from London, doesn't look that far away on the map though 😊
@@jodicross439 Hi, my wife feels motion sickness in the train so we have to drive about 10 hours to arrive st.ives? Is it really worth it? please advise.
@Fidel-tk5rq hi, I'm not sure if I would recommend the 10 hour drive, only because the drive could end up taking a lot longer with traffic and stops. I get motion sickness but I never get it on a train so I personally couldn't go by car. But obviously it's a very beautiful place and if you don't mind the drive then it's definitely worth it. But unfortunately it comes down to personal preference so I couldn't answer if it's worth it or not. Have you thought about flying? There is an airport in newquay and then a train to st Ives from there.
Yes it's a shame it gets so busy but I guess so many people love it there, we were lucky to stay there as we got to explore the surrounding areas and go to the harbour in the evening and early mornings when it was quieter 😊
@Fidel-tk5rq outside school holiday times it's perfect, though we have done May holidays recently and it wasn't too bad. For me August is a no for certain places in cornwall...St Ives, Padstow and others as it just gets too crowded.
@@u2coop2003 Thanks for your reply. I 'm thinking of early September, however as you know holidays in this country are always at the mercy of the weather! please advise.

@@richjackson8349 So true. Before moving away late last year, I volunteered at St Ives food bank. Shocking. 70% of users were in work. In half of those, both adults were working. And 20,000 on the social housing list in Cornwall. There is something rotten in the kingdom of Kernow.
Yeah, love your video but the next one you make don’t put music on it just natural sounds that would be wonderful
Glad you enjoyed the video, and yes completely agree with your comments but the music helps me bring all the short clips together into one section but will keep that in mind, thanks
Looks beautiful ❤
It really was a beautiful place 😊
Ives and we’re a family of 5😊
Hi, our accommodation was an apartment over Porthminster beach called Carrack Widden apartments and they can be found on booking.com. but ours was only suitable for a family of 4, but they may do bigger ones 🙂 I hope you have a great holiday in September 😃
where did you stay?
Hi, we stayed at Carrack Widden apartments which looks over Porthminster beach, there were also different apartment blocks along the same road so a few different places to chose from, we found ours on booking.com.
can i know where did you guys stay? is that an airbnb?
@@janemadrigal7506 hi sorry I thought I had put it in the comments, we stayed at the carrack widden apartments, it was a lovely stay 🙂
@@jodicross439do you have the link where you booked?
do you have the link where you booked?
You can book through cornish escapes but we booked ours through booking.com if you go on there and type in carrack widden you will find it 🙂
@@jodicross439thank you so much!
10 hours??! Where did you come from - Mars???
Lol no just the north east of England, it takes 8 hours to drive but the train is much easier, and with the couple of change overs it took 10 hours all together! It takes 6 hours from London, doesn't look that far away on the map though 😊
Takes that on a bad day from Kent to Cornwall
Yes I can imagine that, South of Englands traffic can be terrible sometimes that's why the train was a stress free option for us 🙂
@@jodicross439 Hi, my wife feels motion sickness in the train so we have to drive about 10 hours to arrive st.ives? Is it really worth it? please advise.
@Fidel-tk5rq hi, I'm not sure if I would recommend the 10 hour drive, only because the drive could end up taking a lot longer with traffic and stops. I get motion sickness but I never get it on a train so I personally couldn't go by car. But obviously it's a very beautiful place and if you don't mind the drive then it's definitely worth it. But unfortunately it comes down to personal preference so I couldn't answer if it's worth it or not. Have you thought about flying? There is an airport in newquay and then a train to st Ives from there.
One of my favourite places, but can't think of a more horrible place during school holidays!!
Yes it's a shame it gets so busy but I guess so many people love it there, we were lucky to stay there as we got to explore the surrounding areas and go to the harbour in the evening and early mornings when it was quieter 😊
Hi, What do you think is the best time to visit Cornwall? Thanks
@Fidel-tk5rq September should be perfect, like you said the weather would be the only random
Hi there can you tell us the place you stayed and how too book thanks
Hi we stayed at Carrack Widden apartments which you can find on booking .com or cornish escapes. Our apartment was number 35. There were a few different accomodation along the same street which I imagine would have the same view. Hope this helps, thanks 😊
Thousan apologieez, but I'll give you a thousan likes from the bottom of my heart. ❤❤❤...
