these fricking people at five guys seem to care a bunch tho. i was 10 cents short and they tell me i can't get fries with my order. i was just acting like any other customer.
Seriously though. I've worked retail for years. We can make miracles happen if you're nice enough to us. Also shoplifter policy is a joke. I don't care if people take stuff without being obvious. And no one has the time to ask a shoplifter if they need any assistance every 5 minutes.
can attest to that. in my state, the security company thought they were doing us all a favor by paying us $10/hour to work Black Friday. i told the manager i had family coming in. only my immediate boss knew that not only did i not have family coming in, but i'm a complete recluse outside of work. no way was i getting stabbed or trampled or otherwise hurt because someone wanted $20 off a POS television set.
I work in a toll booth for a parking lot and when I refused a guy's tip he said "Well what if I threw it in the booth and drove away?" then did just that. To which I sarcastically responded "Oh no, litter!" It was fantastic and I got 5 bucks
Any and every time I shop somewhere, I never show disrespect to any of these hard-working employees. They already go through enough shit as it is so I always smile, thank them, and wish them a good day in hopes of my actions giving some sort of relief to their busy day. These employees are the heroes we didn't ask for, but got anyway. To anyone working their ass off for barely anything in return, keep on keeping on. You matter and your good day will come.
Same here! I try to be nice to everyone, but if they aren't nice back then yeah. I myself am a minimum wage worker (pizza) and I have only had one customer bitch on the phone because the person they sent to get their order didn't even know what the order was. I'm as friendly and cheerful as I can be, so everyone is pretty satisfied with me when I'm answering the phone or ringing them up. Also helps that most of the customers know me, so they know not to fuck with me unless they want their order messed up (even tho I would never). I dislike shopping with my dad at times 'cause he will berate the cashier or whatever if they make a mistake or when they're serving us food. I know we're paying for the food, but do you have to give them a look that'd kill? Still, he gets what he wants and that's that. Still feel bad for my fellow minimum wage worker tho...
Agreed I do the same, also add on to that i am always kind to people at customer service as well because some Karens like to rant to the customer service employee like it's the employees fault, like it's never their fault and they're trying to help you get it fixed like I don't understand how some people are so rude to people working places, it's not because you laid for something that you have to be rude all of a sudden, much love to all people working in all places 💞
@@Beaver_Monday Not just that, but especially in many rural areas, the local chain store or restaurant may be all the more work available. The 2008 crash and ensuing opium epidemic hit the Midwest and South like a commuter train, and unscrupulous employers like Walmart have been taking rampant advantage of that ever since.
Minimum wage could be $50 an hour and there would still be people saying “hurr minimum wage, minimum effort”. Don’t excuse your laziness and you’ll be much more successful in life.
Honestly I remember working retail, and it’s true, don’t be an asshole and most times we’ll give you the hook up if your a genuinely nice person. I didn’t give a damn and half assed everything. I won’t say which stores I worked at in the past but a lot of them were cloth stores in my mall. I loved that I was able to manually change the prices on any item. Sold this sweet old lady a Dyson vacuum for $50 (original price $780) lol. Had this mom come in with her kids around back to school. Could barley speak English but her kids wanted all the expensive brands (I.e. Nike, adidas, vans) I didn’t know what she was saying but I could tell she was telling them no. I told her to hand me the cloths and I marked them clearance price at around under $8 each. It felt good helping people but of course I’d get assholes like customers who try and return an item past the return date which is 30days. After that we couldn’t give them money back just store credit in the form of a voucher card. When I get assholes who don’t have a receipt and demand I return their shit I’d always get told by my managers to just do it manually to avoid conflict. But the petty person I am I’d void the voucher card after they had left making the thing worthless lmao
I used to work in an electronics store selling everything from appliances, pcs, phones and stereo systems or whatever other electronics. Whenever someone was nice id try to get them a deal by cutting down the markup, and some of the in house brands of accessories like chargers, mouse pads, or whatever else the in house brand made I could drop the price by like 80% That $80 hdmi cable? $16 That $3000 tv? $2800 Want our extended warranty? It's free now. And if I couldn't lower a price much I could always throw in a phone charger or something small to make up for it. But people that were assholes, I would never lower a price even if they asked. Id say I was going to go talk to my manager and instead id just go in the break room and take a drink and come back to tell them that we can't discount. Also, when buying anything in any electronics store, always ask them if they can do anything on the price because 9/10 they will nudge it down unless you're a dick. (There's basically no mark up on premium products though, like Apple, Bose, dji, beats by dre. It makes it impossible to give deals on them, in which case but them during sales)
i work at a grocery store and if i like a customer i will give them every discount we have to offer even senior when they arent a senior. But if a customer is rude to me ill tell them we no longer accept that coupon or ill bag before i let them pay just out of spite so it takes longer
I know when I was was little I went to Lowe's o get batteries for my toy car i didnt have enough money for it but the cashier used her membership card to get a discount got I could afford it
I had one of those customers a few weeks back. She complained and got free flowers, chocolate and wine. So.... I'd be extra nice to them, they'll blow up over anything.... it's just not worth it. Edit: Horrible people, by far the worst customers.
I work at a gas station overnight. We sometimes have homeless people come in. We’re technically not supposed to let them stay, but I do anyway especially if they buy something which most of the time they do. Keep in mind I am usually by myself, so having an extra pair of eyes on the store is really helpful and a lot of the time they just want somewhere warm to stay the night especially during the Canadian winters. They rarely cause trouble and often just like to make conversation.
If they buy something they are a customer and not loitering. Tell them to keep their recipe incase the police try to bother them they can prove they are customers. Its nice to have people around at night just to talk too while you work.
Pro tip for folks that want to help homeless people. Don't give them money, give them gift cards. A gift card will open more doors in inclement weather, while lowering the chance of them using it for drugs. Also look for programs that help uplift these people, and volunteer/donate.
@@codyblea3638 I'd add to make sure they are reloadable like those prepaid visa ones. That way they can put more money and don't have to toss it if it has a few pennies left on it.
@@codyblea3638 Wouldn't a gift card only open doors with the same logo on them as the gift card? I'm just trying to imagine a homeless person trying to pay the first and last month's rent plus security deposit with a pile of gift cards.
I'm not minimum wage and I take my job very seriously, but I work security and sometimes on exterior patrol I'll find a transient digging through the dumpster for cardboard/clothes. If they're friendly I'll let them take what they need and then leave even though it's technically against the rules. No sense making someone who's obviously going through a hard time have an even harder time. I'm paid to defend the facility, not bully people who are down on their luck.
I dont understand why you guys are supposed to stop those people. Nobody else wants it, and they need it. Its going to a landfill anyways so why not let them have it.
@@Zeum Depending on the facility there could be confidential information in those dumpsters. Also, Depending on where the dumpster is located, they could be trespassing.

we need more people like you in this world gripcat, that actually think more about the people than the profits, I've never been homeless myself but I had a family member be homeless and I just can't imagine what people go through when they have no place to call their own so it's really nice that you allow them to take things like cardboard or clothes to keep them warm during the night
Odriew I used to work at a Baskin Robbins too. My coworkers were chill, but the only managers were the owners of the store, who were a married couple that argued in the back of our store constantly. Both of them were complete assholes to both coworkers and customers, and would pull you into the back and yell at you for at least 15 minutes if you made even the tiniest mistake. The male owner once had the audacity to tell me the way I was standing and waiting for a customer to make their choice of ice cream was “standoffish” even though all I was doing was holding my hands behind my back. So glad I got out of that place, I wasn’t making enough to deal with their childish attitudes lol
@@ventabIack you see, this is why I'm glad I wasn't working that specific job at that specific time. I don't even like when my own folks yell at me. Fleece Johnson yeah, I get you. customers are one aspect of what can make a job totally shit, but managers/owners are also a completely separate aspect of the job too. For me, if there’s not a good balance on either side, that’s enough for a quick 2 weeks notice lol

I was already washing my hands often, but with him there I had to wash them so often they started to sting all the time from the soap. He kept saying he was worried about liability is someone got sick or something. Eventually I just quit. Surprisingly he tried to keep me there despite all his criticisms, and even offered more money, but I'd just had enough.
What's your boss gonna do? Fire you? "Oh no! I'll never find another minimum wage job in a place as shitty as this again!!" Worked in a very small grocery store and the Portuguese population loved the store because of our daily fresh bread... That didnt get in until 10:30am and they got their at 9:00 to ask if we were getting any. Routinely told people to fuck off, back the fuck up and have some fucking manners, you can get your shit after I'm done stocking it. Some of them liked to grab bread without the tongs, to which I also enforced that rule like a dictator. And some people routinely bought everything we had despite being asked to order is before hand from the store so we could have enough for everyone. We were allowed to ask these customers to fuck off, too.
Used to work at a McDonald's. Did literally everything and made an effort to be nice. Most customers actually liked me because I knew how to actually do my job. One day, around the time the "schezuan sauce" came back because of Rick & Morty every single fan was trying to go get that sauce after that episode aired. We didn't have it, we didn't get it after we ran out in like a week. Eventually this one rude guy came and demanded the sauce. I looked at my manager, and at the other nice customers who were waiting on me. I apologized to them, told my manager i'm going on break and to cover his ears. I shouted "you can go mcfuck yourself and get out of my store before I call the cops and have you leave in cuffs you literal fucking leach." I then finished making the nice customer's orders, not even missing a beat, and went on my break. My manager told me I could of been fired, if it wasn't for the other customers telling him not to. Nice customers go a long way with nice employees, assholes get the fuck out of my sight. Good manager, shame the rest of the place sucked.
I always did the "You don't have to do that" shit when given a tip, But it's really just a waste of time and makes things awkward because no one ever goes "Oh ok" and takes back their money lol, Now It's just "I appreciate that" and move on, Makes it a lot easier and less awkward lol.
I worked in a shop I wasn't paid enough to care if you stole. I knew of a guy who was homeless and would take food that was weeks out of date from the big box bins we had outside The stuff was written off and definitely not sellable but the manager had locks installed on the bins when he saw the guy stealing food when I was locking up at the end of the night I found the guy crying behind the bin he told me that the bin was his only food source I made him a coffee and gave him all the staff room biscuits and told him to come back the next day when the shop was open and told him where the blind spots were for the cameras he never stole anything saying he might be homeless hungry and living off food that was rotting but he was no criminal top bloke thank you to mark at subway for all the free sandwiches and getting Paul a job you are what this world is lacking
They use to let people take things out of the bins at Kroger. But people had to ruin it. They would take it, get sick then complain. Trash had locks on them now.
It's sad the manager was such a a-hole all the staff hated working for him and one by one we all left we had a really good team the deputy manager was fired for stealing (*amongst other infrctions he could muster) because she would write off the food that couldn't be sold and give it to the homeless group living in the park (including mark) the manager found out and she was given her marching orders *other infractions giving staff days off or granting holidays Allowing staff to swap shifts with each other Not writing her staff up if they came back more than a minute late or if we split our breaks or shared our breaks Worst was not allowing staff take religious holidays I remember hearing him screaming at her for employing an Asian Muslim man stating " paki's take too much time off don't employ them anymore" yet he refused to cover Sundays due to his religious beliefs lovely but of casual racism on top of being an idiot who couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery
@@BaldMancTwat It's not that easy. Ever noticed those small faded signs beside every turn-in to a parking lot? "This property is under the jurisdiction of [insert local police here], no overnight parking, no loitering, violaters will be towed/prosecuted." No, trust me, it's not that easy. What about when you have no gas left? If you're homeless it's incredibly difficult to get/keep a job, because one you have to have an address and two, the stigma is immense. So no, you either have to hide your car in the shadows and hope the police are inattentive, or go to Walmart - which, God bless him, San Walton made it a rule that the homeless or RV travelers or truckers could sleep at the end of Walmart parking lots and were not to be disturbed. He must've been homeless himself at one point, the average person sure isn't that kind and understanding to those on the lowest rungs of society.
@@Brievel I don't live in America, so no I haven't noticed those signs. But also I have never noticed a homeless person with a vehicle. I mean that seems kind of strange since here in the UK you would just sell that vehicle (Presumably for at least £500 probably much more if its not a piece of shit) and the Premier Inn (A hotel) costs like £25 a night. It also comes with breakfast. So they would easily be able to get a hotel room, clean themselves up, eat, and go to a job center where the government will assign them a job, usually for the government like landscaping in local gardens, cleaning, bin-man. But also in England we don't have a policy about sleeping in car parks plus there are loads of public government owned car parks where I live that are secluded and don't have any buisnesses near them where they could easily go and not be bothered. It just seems like those are only problems that people in America would have in the first place because of their dumb laws.
@@BaldMancTwat One, the laws aren't the problem, society's attitude towards the homeless is the problem. And two, yeah I guess things would be rather different across the pond. Although I must say I'm very glad our jobs aren't assigned to us by some disinterested bureaucrat, we get a say in what we do.
When people ask for a water cup when I'm at the register, I always give them like 2 sizes larger than I'm supposed to. I work at the airport. In the Mojave. It's hot, and a lot of these people have never been to the US before. They can have a larger cup of water. Let someone else ruin their opinion of America
Dehydration is a real issue! People step out of places like McCarran and I'll just see them dying in the summer--it's hot, dry, and more so than most people are used to. *I* don't care, but if I went to their countries, where 70 is a hot summer temperature, I would be cold--let alone in the winter, since I freeze after 60! So on behalf of them, thanks, I bet people really appreciate that. There's nothing like cold water on a hot day.
I work a minimum wage, and this video made me realise I'm too stingy with customers, just because my managers told me to be (a majority are students, so I don't see why I never thought to be more generous) I'm going to lighten up on customers from now on, as long as their not assholes to me.
Honestly same. I always just think, management doesn’t actually care about me and if I were to die tomorrow they would have my position filled within the week and forget all about me within the month. I’d rather give nice people a break here and there
not cool do you give a damn about the management if you’re getting a higher paying opportunity elsewhere? You will leave that company and go to the higher paying one. What do you want management to do after you die? Cry and have a decade of doom and gloom? Or pay your salary to your family members for the rest of your life? Stop being stupid. The world stops For no one. When Steve Jobs died, his company got another man to do his job because the WORLD GOES ON.
Heyoka do your job according to what your managers tell you. They are answerable to others too just like how you’re answerable to them. You frankly don’t have the right to decide whether to be generous when it comes to handouts because you those things don’t belong to you. Why don’t you be generous with your own possessions rather than the company’s ?
A lot of these big companies take advantage of their employees anyway. I used to hold a store on weekends and would shut the doors 15 minutes before close time, informing any customers present that we were closing. This was because it took about 15 minutes to cash up due to all the procedures, even longer if there were discrepancies and we were never paid for that extra time. Sorry, I but don’t work for free unless it’s my choice to do so and I’m not going to let a multimillion company that treats me like a drone and is already paying me a pittance to be everything from a cashier to a housekeeper to a personal stylist to a therapist etc expect me to work for free either. I’m also a human being though and I know what it’s like to leave things last minute, forget something and just be having a stressful day and in special circumstances where the customer was especially nice and/or desperate, both I and the other member of staff with me would stay open as long as needed I was questioned by management about it only once and told them I would be happy to stay that extra 15 minutes if I was being paid for it or had it returned in paid break time. They never mentioned it again and I carried on as I was because they didn’t want to pay me the extra and they didn’t want the hassle of re-training someone new. I later went on to work for a family run store where the boss would tell me to leave a little early if it was quiet but still pay me for a full day, would give me a small bonus if takings were especially good and treated both me and my time as valuable. In that case, I was more than happy to return the favor when needed and stay later or do duties outside of my contract off my own back. It was never about the extra money but the principle. If you allow people to take advantage of you and treat you unfairly then they will. If you respect your employees and people working in stores you patron then chances are you will receive the same in kind.
you're wrong. I work at a burger king at an airport, and i must say, i just LOOOOVE being an ass hole to costumers who don't treat me right, and believe me, there's a lot of rude costumers. It just makes my whole day's worth, to make someone else's life complicated.
The story about the store in the mall expecting the employees to chase after a shop lifter is absolutely INSANE. It's TECHNICALLY illegal to you make an employee do such a thing. I work at a restaurant (a very popular corporate chain). It's actually against policy to walk out the door after a customer who is walking out on a check. You're only allowed to approach them as far as the front door. They actually go over this during orientation. They also assure you that they will not make you pay for the meal that was walked out on (like some restaurants illegally do). They tell us that safety is their main priority for us, and that the price of a meal. No matter what the price, is not worth one of us being hurt or potentially killed. But, I have worked at restaurants that fully expect you to do that. At one restaurant I worked at I walked out in the parking lot after a man and his family that walked out on a $75 check. He tried to run me over with his truck. I never went after a customer that walked out on a check ever again.
It depends on the place, most likely due to type of insurance they have. For instance, my brother does loss prevention at Lowe’s and is allowed to follow a shoplifter out of the store as long as he doesn’t touch them. He once followed a guy carrying heavy tools for 3 blocks until the cops showed up. He filmed the whole thing of him asking the guy where he thinks he’s going to go with all the equipment lol.
Also depends on your country in the uk you're not meant to follow them out. For your safety, i work in a store and interviewed in a few others and that was a major policy of theirs. Just go to security footage and report them to the police
Seriously, like if you are nice to me I'll give you a little something in return. However if you're going to be a dick, there's nothing I can do for you.
I work in a supermarket and I've done most of these. It's not even to do with the wages though, more that the place is constantly understaffed, management know it and don't care - so I'm not wasting my time quibbling over bullshit.
When my register is low on bills, I am supposed to make an announcement (code 4 and my department) on the intercom. My managers have been extremely lazy these last couple of months (new GM) that instead of getting me change, they instead have been making the excuse that the store's safe is low on everything except high bills (hundreds and fifties, when I'm asking for ones and fives or coins) as well, and we need to wait for so-and-so (the next shifts manager, usually showing up in about 2-3 hours) to clock in and go to the bank to get more change. I would ask the next person, and they say it is the job of so-and-so to do that, leaving them in a loop of literally passing the buck. I have offered to go myself, since the bank is literally on the same street at the end of the block and a 2 minute walk away, but they dont allow me to take money out of the store because I am not a manager (I have been there longer than most of the managers, and even invovled in training a two of them myself). On two different occasions this had gone on for more than a week, leaving us unable to accept cash because we had nothing to make change with. So I would get someone to give me a 15 minute break, go to the bank myself, withdraw $400 from an atm, go inside, and ask to break it into small bills and coins. I would then have to distribute this to my coworkers, because they are all low on change as well. I would do this and not bother telling my managers, since it was my own money being used.
Happened to me. So my friend and I were at incredible pizza for a field trip and went on a bunch of rides. They were kinda crappy, but we had loads of fun. So, the last ride we wanted to go on had a really long line but we got in line anyways. When we gave the guy our cards, he told us we didnt have enough money. I had money on me and offered him that, but we had to walk across the place to go put the money on our cards. Okay, no biggie. But our teacher stopped us and gave us a 7 ish minute warning. This got our anxiety going. So we ran across the place to the front desk, got the money on our cards and ran back to the ride. We got in line and by the time we got to the front he told us the seats were filled. Okay, no biggie, well just get on the next time. The ride felt like it took forever, but finally we got to get on. We went to sit down when someone talks on the intercom. "All students at (my school) go to the front." We were destroyed. We started to sadly tell the employee that we had to leave, but then he speaks up. "They cant make you get off the ride if you're already on," he says. I perk up and start egging my friend, who isnt totally on board, but finally agrees. We get on the ride and have a whole lot of fun. When we did get off, it took another 10 minutes for the bus to arrive anyways. So, if you're reading this, thank you incredible pizza employee for not caring and letting us ride that ride when we went through all of that trdouble.

One time an employee at Best Buy was trying to fix my phone because it had SIM card malfunctions that the batch of iPhone 7 had, I happen to buy one around 3 months earlier from Best Buy. However he needed to delete the device from my history on my iCloud so I can get a new device. However, I had a two-verification security method that required a text message to be sent to my iPhone to get a code so I can type it in to log in to my iCloud. So since my phone couldn’t read the SIM card since it was broken, it seemed like all was lost. But the worker said “I’m normally not allowed to do this but...” he then takes out the SIM card in my iPhone and puts it in his phone and gets the verification code. Logs into my iCloud and helps delete the device and backs up my photos from 2014-2018. I ended up getting that phone replaced with the same model, but I probably would’ve been mad to have to get a new SIM card and lost all those photos.
I would do stuff like that all the time, but for gaming related issues. I was *the* gaming guy in the store so when they started making Geek Squad do a lot of little maintenance things to PS3's or 360's or shit like that just to get a few extra bucks, they would call me. None of them wanted to take time away from their beloved computers to help out some poor mom who's kid might have bricked their system. So I would show up, look the system over and if it was something pretty easy to fix I would just get it done. I even convinced my manager to get a TV installed and a few "test units" just around the corner of the counter so I could hook the systems up to get them fixed. If the customer was nice - "Hey it was just a faulty power cord, got it fixed" or "Looks like he just de-synced the controller, here's a super easy way to fix it." If it was something easy to fix, there was no point in charging the customer for it. If it was really dead and I couldn't fix it . ."well looks like a Test Unit went tits up, better grab another, no that lady didn't have a faulty hard drive, this thing does though . . . super weird" Plus side I got a LOT of repeat business from people that knew me in the community. I'm about 85% sure my GM knew but again customers kept coming in on a regular basis to see me and buy from me so he just ever brought it up.

It’s the exact opposite in the UK (well at least London). I finished serving a couple and the man handed me £5. Me:”sorry I can’t take tips, but thank you” him: you can’t.... but you can” and he kept his hand up. I took the money and thanked him once again. Great guy :)
@@raynes6286 No, it's pretty much the UK. I work part-time as a minimum-wage waitress and I'm always told to put it in our tips bucket. Thing is, is that our tip bucket is always empty even when we get loads of tips, and I've worked there for 2+ years and have never received a tip check. Long story short, always give your tips directly to the waiter/waitresses or people on till, as if you put it in a tip box it'll likely never go to them.
Eagleshouse I’m also a waiter in the UK, we’re allowed tips - only a really horrible place to work would deny you that and if the jar is always empty when you know it shouldn’t be then you may have a case against your employer for stealing from you. But yeah, always picket tips and split them with friends (if you’re going to split them at all) rather than put them in a jar where everyone else sip with a pointless extra £2
I've literally never had anyone cut my fabric precisely. I was under the impression the employees were supposed to do that so if you needed a certain amount, and the fold or weave wasn't exact, it would kind of insure you had enough. Apparently the whole time, I was just a nice person... I've been buying fabric for over 30 years lol.
I work at a retail store and this isn't necessarily a rule to follow but we REALLY appreciate it if you pull the next item forward when taking something off the shelf. Makes our job a whole lot easier.
Hahaha I was a stocker at Walmart for two years so now I just do it all the time. I'll go down an aisle and "oh my word this really needs to be zoned" and start arranging things 😁
@@once.upon.a.time. I used to be on CAP 2 at my local Walmart. Whenever I go back, despite it being 2 years since I left, I still notice it needing to be zoned, still know all the aisles, and pull stuff forward.
@@Tkieron hahaha I was an overnighter 😂 even though they completely rearranged the store, I still know it better than the employees and feel obligated to help customers find stuff
As someone on Minimum Wage in Retail, I'll tell you two things: In my store, we aren't allowed to give out change to customers, and if you purchase something, the change we are supposed to give you is the minimum amount of coins needed. However, my store is in a train station, and next to countless bus stops - so I'll give you change, unless you're rude, in which case I'll state the store's policy. Also, the story about dealing with theft is very true. In my store, we aren't allowed to chase a thief, but we are expected to confront them. I won't, I mean most of them in our store are homeless, and, to be frank, some of them have reputations about them for violence. Case in point, one of my colleagues got Hepatitis from a thief when he was threatened with a dirty needle. To be fair though, you'd have to pay me much, much more to deal with thieves, I'm a wimp!
I hear you. Cops are the only people legally qualified to deal with these kinds of people. Anyone else does not have the duty nor equipment to do so. At a minimum, I'd want bear mace if I had to deal with these kinds of people.
I’m not a wimp. I’m 6’3, 225lbs, bench press my weight, played sports, etc. Can be impulsive and confrontational at times, etc. And I wouldn’t do that shit either. Not only are you not paid enough, it isn’t your job AND if you get hurt the company will hang you out to dry. Fuck that. You’re making a smart decision.
Exactly. Even if they paid minimum wage and they gave you like mace or a tazer and would cover in case you were injured, I wouldn't do it either. I rather be out of a job then out of health because of some money. I can always get a new job, I can't get a new life.@@IncognitoSprax
Thanks for the positive comments, I’ll tell my colleague that he really shouldn’t fight people with dirty needles...or maybe I won’t, a human shield is always useful in retail!
I struggled working on the tills due to my social anxiety, it was hell. My boss was very unsympathetic and would deliberately make me stop my usual job to cover the tills at busy periods. He was suddenly more understanding when he realised I wasn’t scanning items on the tills because “I couldn’t concentrate on anything except how shaky my hands were and how high my pulse became.”. He knew he was fucking up, head office had him under a microscope and he knew I could get doctors records quicker than he could eat a pasty.
This comment really confuses me. I understand the social anxiety part. But what is a till? Is it a register? And that last sentence makes absolutely no sense to me
Sarah Swanson Yes, a till is what you’d call a register. Well, he kept bashing me for a medically recognised condition. If I told HIS bosses that he had been deliberately harassing me and making my condition worsen, then he’d get pulled up on ignoring medical notes. He’d have to answer to head office quicker than he’d be able to a pasty. A “pasty” (Pah-stee) is a savoury pastry treat filled with gravy, meat, and veg. He’s a fat guy. I’m saying that even though he’s a fast eater he’d get shit from head faster than his ability to guzzle food.
@@SimplyDeano Omg you are the best. I tried to google "Till" and I got nothing useful. And the word "pasty" has a COMPLETELY different meaning here in America. A pasty is referred to as an adhesive coverings for nipples. Or someone very white and pale. And once again, google was no help in trying to give me context
" A coke or a bag of chips." Do......... do people not bring in an entire KFC bucket dinner with sides and wine in an Italian grandma sized purse? ( Reconsiders life choices )
I’ve done full on fast food. But the wine one is new. I worked at a movie theatre and people have brought beers and so many other things that we just didn’t care. Until they spilt the beer. Then we cared. Or the sodas. That shit stays on the floor till after we closed.
I work in a retirement community. We aren't supposed to give them extra but when the residents are really nice or are having a bad day I give them extra of whatever and console them as well as give pep talks even the ones my coworkers hate. They're generally nice when you get to know them.
I remember working at a grocery store doing what amounted to shopping for the customer. We weren't supposed to take tips, but the employees already there just told me to accept them anyway and not tell the managers. Basically, "Don't rat yourself or anyone else out for accepting tips and you get to make more than $10 per hour." What am I supposed to do, turn down someone's generosity?
lol $10 an hour minimum wage. I was paid $8.25/hr by the Boy Scouts to work for them. Technically about a dollar more than minimum wage but in most states it would be well under. Even better my store was located in an area with a bunch of rich people around so we got a lot of the "Why don't you do this for me I could buy this whole store if I wanted to" types. They're the most fun to mess with.
Most of my staff gets paid minimum wage, so I often tell them if they're dealing with a difficult client, just give them what they want and let it come out of the company's pocket.
I was always told to call for another employee if a customer gets too rude. And if they can't handle it they will call our boss (who can handle the situation without screaming at them since lots of customers suddenly become nicer when they know that the boss is in front of them...)
I was expecting something funny but honestly this is up lifting. I always make sure to be kind to the lowest person on the totem pole. Those are some hard workers!
I've worked at various jobs that offered drinks, gas stations or restaurants, and while yes we are suppose to charge you for that cup of ice and/or water, I've never charged anyone for ice or water. Wealthiest nation on the planet and our citizens have to pay for water? Excuse me? I would also let the local homeless people have the food from the hotbox (also known as a grab-n-go) or the donuts that were delivered daily. Just let me count everything for the waste sheet and make sure I'm not looking at you when you take it, otherwise I never cared. I've also given free rolls of toilet paper, paper towels, and various other miscellaneous store supplies that is not actually for sale. Oh, and if you come in with multiple children following you, I'm most likely only going to charge you for one of their drinks because I was raised by a single mother of four. By far my favorite though was when I worked for JCPenny, it was Black Friday, the store was a mess and there were hundreds of people all over the store. There was this little boy, maybe 12 years old that wanted a price check on a pair of $50 boots for women. Turns out it was a christmas present for his mother, but he only had $30 dollars. Something in the way he looked at those boots, I knew it was the first time he'd ever had enough money to buy his mother a real christmas present. I took the boots from him, placed the box on a table with a sale sign that said $24.99, and told that boy to give my name to the cashier when he checked out. Sure enough, 20-30 mins later I get called to a register. I see the look of fear/hope in that child's eyes and I tell the cashier that the kid had found them on a table marked for sale, so she changed the price. I grew up dirt poor, and I was 16 years old when I had saved up enough money to buy my mother a dragonfly suncatcher for her birthday. I can't really describe what it feels like the first time your able to give a proper gift to your mother. It's been over a decade, and she still has that suncatcher in her front window. Being able to help that boy have the same sort of experience with his own mother was an honor I'll never forget.
Pretty recently I was boarding a bus and told the driver where I wanted to go so he could put it in the key pad and then I'd pay, like usual. He told me to just scan my card without even putting in the location. I was confused but just did it anyway. Obviously it didn't work because it didn't have a price for me to pay. I expected him to just put my location in and I'd re-do it, but he told me to take a seat. Probably just tired and had a rough day. Anyways, random bus driver, thanks for the free ride!
Sounds a bit like the bus driver strike in Japan. They showed up to work, drove their routes on time, did everything they normally do, except they didn't collect fares!
Strange. When I took the bus, you just tapped your card and were charged a flat rate. It was the same for the light rail. Usually like $2.50 for a ride or $3.75 for express busses.
This happens all the time in my city as you’re supposed to just give the bus driver enough cash, so if you take more than 5 seconds to get it they’ll usually just tell you to sit down
Worked as a lead at a round 1. Always gave away pieces of candy to even out odd tickets left in cards. I was happy knowing their decisions took a half second not worrying about totals and they left happy with extra candy. Honestly being nice to the staff got you some leniency with higher prize things too, ticket games for the most part are scams so if people were off by a few hundred tickets and never gave me a problem their whole visit there I would just even the total. Rather have a happy customer leaving with something in hand to remember the visit than leave with a card they honestly just end up tossing on the floor half the time.
Working as a server makes me bend the rules for my customers. Why tf would I care if they get three juice refills? THE CUSTOMER PAYS ME!!! Imma do what I can to get the most money outta these ppls, so idc if it costs to refill juice. Lol Mind you I get paid $2/hour. I don’t get a paycheck at the end of the week. It’s all taken for taxes.
one time my mom ordered one subway menu with 1 big sub and 1 drink for 3 people so we all shared the sub and since we were waiting for a friend to arrive at the airport we refilled that cup 3 times but after that felt bad and also had to leave since our friend arrived. we were the only ones at that subway
@@charlomand3r Don't feel bad... Subway can afford it. Soda is dirt cheap anyway, its usually these places biggest moneymaker to be honest. Cup costs like 10 cents to fill and they sell it for 2 dollars.
@@philsburydoboy True, to a degree. Sometimes you can go home from an 8 hour shift with only $60. It depends on a lot of things, really. Although if you work somewhere consistently busy you can make decent money no matter what happens. Serving can be wishy washy. They don't always make bank.
at the drive thru of my job, if your rude to a coworker either while they are taking your order or when they take your money, I’ll park you, even if we have your food ready
The amount of rich people I've gotten to mess with is worth well more than the amount I might have been getting ripped off by working for $8.50 an hour.
Makes me wonder if paying your workers a decent wage might offset the cost of lost inventory if they were payed enough to care and be diligent at their jobs...
Minimum wage workers don't care about shitty pay. They care about being treated like garbage. Most people would much rather make $8 an hour and treated like a person than get 15 and treated like shit. That's the real problem. That's why I think everyone should work in retail at some point in their life. You encounter retail workers every day and until you've been in the same position, you don't understand how stressful and annoying assholes can be to someone.
Alexaction127 I completely agree - but happiness is different than personal integrity. You can be unhappy and keep your integrity. Difference between taking a high or low ground approach.
I was working alone on the overnight shift at a gas station/convenient store. A methhead came in carrying a knife. He used the knife to slice open a bag of beef jerky and started eating it in front of me whilst telling me a story about some Russian who was going to have him assassinated. I participated in the insane conversation as best I could until he finished his snack without paying and left.
Worked at Burger King & a Long John Silver's. So many times when someone ordered a 10-piece chicken nugget I give them extra nuggets or when they order a 2-piece chicken, fries & 2 hushpuppies at LJS I'd hook them up with 3 pieces of chickens & 4 hushpuppies. There was this one time when someone said all they had was 5 dollars and I wanted some marijuana. They said that they couldn't afford anything so while the manager was in the back I told them, "If you give me the $5 I'll just give you all the food and even some extra". A 2-piece chicken, fries & 2 hushpuppies for $6.99 became 5 pieces of chicken, fries (they declined hushpuppies) and they even got a free Large soda. Before they left they simply said, "................nice hustle." and walked out. I got high that night after I closed.
Gotta start somewhere. Employers aren't gonna throw 20 bucks an hour at a teenager with no experience. Do the work, get the experience, earn more money. Plus minimum wage is better than no wage.
For the consumer popcorn costs more per pound than caviar. So much of it thrown out at the end of every night that it’s not even funny. Refill person has a truly charitable soul.
I go to a gas station enough to be considered a regular. One time I didn't have enough money for something I was buying, but the lady at the register knew me well enough that she spotted me the extra change for it. I also once forgot my wallet but I'd already started drinking my purchase, so they let me have it, but I felt bad enough that I walked home and came back to pay for it. Those guys are pretty cool.
I was such a regular at my old neighborhood, the owner let me run a tab. The employees couldn't though. A few times I watched the register so they could have a bathroom. Take care of your people, they take care of you.
I used to be regular at this gas station who had decent coffee for good prices all throughout highschool and i remember it would be like 6 am I’d be in pajamas lookin like death and the guy at the register would see me say hi and already have my coffee price pulled up on the register a few times i walked in grabbed my coffee went to pay and he’d just be liek no this one is on the house and that always stuck with me i was dead on my feet but i was always polite and in return i got a few free coffees I stopped going there when the coffee mixed with my ADD and anxiety got to much and made me have panic attacks but i went there again today like 2 years later and he recognized me something
i live near a donut shop and love their sandwiches. i have been short twice and they let it slide. i do feel bad though and will tell my parents next time they go there to cover my shortage at the tip jar
There was this guy around 60-65 who had a shop around the corner My friends found him a lil annoying as he would easily get frustrated (given his age) but i used to nice to him always I would also chat with him whenever i would be picking up things from his shop He was very stern on not giving anyone credit on anything so it came as surprise to me when i wanted to buy something and i was short and he let me have it ( i paid later ) But he still refused the same to my friend lmao
I was at a bakery store (in Germany they are often inside of supermarkets) to get some food during a city trip . In front of me and my mate was a guy who almost yelled at the bloke behind the counter . The yelling guy was pretty rude and the poor counter bloke seemed like he was close to cry . So when it was my turn to order the counter bloke looks and me and my mate and asks if he could get a minute before completing our orders. I just said „yeah sure“ since neither me or my mate were in any type of hurry and we could see that the counter bloke needed a tiny brake . So after two or three minutes counter bloke returns , thanks us and hands us a donut with our order „to thank us for the patience“ It did cost me and my mate like two minutes or so but for the counter bloke that probably meant a lot more since he seemed close to tears and probably had a stressful day already when the yelling idiot came to top it all...
I was a trainee manager of a company once, I got promoted by my manager before he left because he thought I deserved it and I'd be of great help to the assistant manager there (I'd been there for 2 years). Earned £17000 which was really shit, but it was only supposed to last for 2 months when I'd get made an assistant manager. Sounds like a good deal right? Well my Area manager decided it was a great idea to immediately send me to a store without a manager or any keyholders. So here I was on a 40hr salary contract doing 60 hours a week (20 hours unpaid) on a measly £17000, untrained and running the store morning till evening (Or later given night shifts) with one day off with the addition of my area manager barking at me for all of the problems that was left behind for me to fix on a really tight budget. 45 minute travel time, so that's an hour and a half on top of the 10 hours a day I was doing. And I did that for 5 months (yes, I was supposed to have been made an assistant manager after 2 months). Obviously I left. But before I left I felt like it would be wonderful if my staff got double pay for the two weeks of notice I had to give. Something didn't have a price on it? Whoops. I guess the customer can decide. That kind of thing. Funnily enough because the staff were happier and customers were happier, we had a record high intake on the second week. Almost as if treating people nicely makes people want to shop there. Who would've guessed?
the ones about movie theaters resonate sooooo much with me lmaoooo also some extra about it: if we sell icees/slushies were probably not able to give you refills but if you’re nice enough no one has to know, when i sell nachos i don’t charge extra cheese i just give the damn cup, if i catch people bringing snacks i just tell them to hide them better but if you’re an asshole? that’ll be 75 cents for extra cheese and you’re not allowed to bring outside food sorry

(Our wine/spirits are blocked and customers have to leave things they pick out at a table and we get it for them. To prevent stealing.) We were really busy too, and she huffed and puffed that I didn't have her special order of wine magically appear. Customers from hell need a reality check.
Worked at a planet fitness a few years ago. We were supposed to charge people $20 if they wanted to try out the gym for a day. That was such a rip off so we just let people use it for free if they were nice. We also let some of our nice regulars bring a friend for free. $7.50/hr was not enough for me to care.
I work at retail...every Tuesday is seniors day...if your over 60 you get a discount...if i work on those days...i really dont care if your old or not...you get the discount...its rude to ask for their age...so why not...
That really depends on what job you've been hired to do. If you were hired to be a cook or cashier at McDonald's, then yes, you're right. If you were hired to be a lobby person who covered the bathrooms as well as the dining area, then you're not exempt from cleaning up pee, poop, vomit, etc. That really should be common sense, but I don't want some idiot reading this and thinking they were hired to clean bathrooms and don't have to clean bathroom messes. You're just supplied with the training, safety gear, and materials to do the job properly.
@@DogFlamingoXIII But if you're not given said training, etc. stick to your guns. And if they get pissy (pun intended), remind them what a workman's comp claim for Hepatitis B will cost the company.
I'd imagine the cause of minimum wage workers' behavior is less how much they're getting paid and more how they are treated by coworkers and managers, and how well the business is managed.
I'd much rather get paid $8 and treated with some respect than get paid $15 and get treated like shit. I worked retail for the Boy Scouts in a pretty affluent area and you could really tell who had money and who didn't. If they treated you like dog shit they were probably rich. Then you get the customers who just want to get out of your hair because they know you don't really want to be there on $8 an hour. Those people have either worked in retail or don't have enough money to shit all over people.
when i worked at walmart, if someone was obviously frazzaled, having abad day or was just clearly struggling or in need, i'd run an itam or two over the scanner " wrong" so it would deactivate the chip but not scan the price. if they said anything id lookat them say i dont think i did total dead pan but obvious that I knewi had.
I used to work in a gas station. Most miserably job I’ve done so far. I always gave out paper cups for free to teens that came in late and just wanted something to get wasted with. That job taught me a lot about working minimal wage. So when I went to a shopping mall the other day, both the cashier and me were somewhere else with our minds and he didn’t charge me that 1 cent I was short. So i walked home, grabbed some coins, walked back and handed them over because I know what happens if you’re "missing" cash in the register after your shift. He was speechless and so grateful.
I used to work at my college's bookstore as a cashier. For returns you have to call over your manager(they have to type in this pin number and sign the receipt with their name on it). Naturally, as it gets busy there'll be more returns. I would call my manager over and she would literally snap at me and dismiss me right in front of the customer (saying stuff like "WHAT?! Ugh!!!" And storm off), so now the customer looking at me like "what am I supposed to do?" Good thing I remembered the pin. For the receipts I would just throw them in the garbage. College textbooks are too expensive for this shit.
I hear you. Back in my 'slips were still a thing' lingerie-selling days, we were supposed to get management to sign off on returns. Which was feasible 8 months out of the year, but December, January, and the last half of February and May (Valentine's and Mother's Day returns) it was like trying to get a coherent answer out of a political debate finding time to get management, much less finding a manager herself. So I'd have a stack of like 20 at a time, and the manager would get on my case. I'd look at the back-to-back ringers, plus the 'folding-and-gift-box' girls, all working at a frantic pace and wonder why they even bothered to ask. BTW, there's a special place in H*ll for people who buy foundation garments, then return them worn. Especially when they buy them two sizes too small and return them 3 sizes larger than they started out. You're not fooling anyone, Ms. Lane-Bryant-thinks-you're-fat. (And I'm a size 20, so I know whereof I diss.)
I was always nice to people behind the register, then when it came my turn to punch buttons, I saw them as brothers and sisters in suffering and I dispense as much warmth and mercy as possible.
I used to work for Kohl's and when I saw someone come up to my register with $300+ of stuff, if they were nice, instead of asking them to sign up for a credit card like I was supposed to I would ask if they would do an impression of their favorite actor/scene and then give them the 30% off. Best thing is the manager was not only ok with it but also made it a store policy to do it some time after I left the store because it apparently brought up revenue.

Bringing in outside food and drink to the movie theater. Don't let me see it (or at least keep it hidden well enough that I could plausibly deny seeing it if a manager walked by), you're golden.
With the tip thing, a lot of people tell me to keep the change for my self, but there is a camera watching me, so if I put the money in my pocket and earlier today I or someone using the till gave a pound extra or somehow lost some cash, I could be fired, because when they review the CCTV, I look like the clear criminal. So people out there, if a person says they don't want a tip, there a reason, I live in uk.
I have no idea why, but I always felt like retail had similar protocol and monitoring as Psycho Pass, so when a really nice gas station attendant told me the candy bars I grabbed were half off, was wrong, then just manually changed the prices to be half off anyway, I felt like an accomplice in a crime. It was really cool.
not sure i follow? they were half off and advertised as such and you got them at half price? dont see how that makes anything special. i give manually sales daily because the register isn't always up-to-date with our stock. this is one of the moments where "the customer is always right" if its priced at say 10$ and the register charges 11$ then you're not "lucky" and the person working the register isn't "nice".

I used to suck at math too and then I started playing a game in my head to see if I could guess the change due back to them before the drawer opened. that really helped, I didn't even need a calculator for large bills. the trick is figuring out the cents first then minus 1 dollar. (ex) 8.26 out of 20= 11.74... 26+74=100 and 20-8=12 the only real math anyone needs to know is how to add to a 1 dollar. hopes this helps
I worked at a car wash for a few years, and if a customer paid to get the most basic interior service done by us, we were only allowed to vacuum the floors, seats, clean the dash, center console and windows. If a car had a little bit of dirt scuffs on the doors from their shoes getting in and out, we were not supposed to clean them unless the customer paid the extra amount for any add ons. All it usually took was one stroke of my rag to make a door looking excellent, and attention to detail like that usually would result in a better tip for us and a returning customer (hopefully)
Back when I worked at maccas towards the end of the shift we would have left over food (cuz some fat Muppets would order a new batch of nuggets or something). I would ask if the night crew would want any and then take the leftovers and give it to the homeless and keep some for myself. My boss was all for it, just didn't have anyone bothered to deliver for them. I hope someone took over that duty when I quit
That's really cool! I used to work at Chipotle and before I started, they would donate any leftover steak from that night to a homeless shelter. They stopped for some reason though... Also there was a Jamba Juice in the same plaza and they would throw away TONS of produce into the dumpster each night, it's such a waste but their rule was you HAD to put it in the trash, you couldn't give it away -___-
I don’t live in America but when my mum and I were out shopping once I sort of had a panic attack (I have quite bad anxiety) and I had to sit down in the changing rooms for about ten minutes to calm down. Because we spent an extra ten minutes in that store, the store we had to go to next was about to close for the night but my mum had to pick up some new pillows she had ordered. I was still quite fidgety when we tried to go into that store and one of the workers was about to stop us since they were so close to closing. I think he noticed my anxious behaviour and perhaps took pity on me and my mum since all I wanted was to go home (but I didn’t have any pillows). So he took us all the way to the back of the store where it was staff only and he found the orders for us. He then walked us back out the store, smiled and told us to have a good night. He was very nice and I don’t think any of the other employees would have done that for us. Needless to say the pillows were so soft and I got a good nights sleep which doesn’t usually happen when I have anxiety/panic attacks.

Also another time there was a lady in front of me and my friend using coupons, then after being told she can only use one at a time (she had like five) she just sighed and asked if we (behind her) can use it instead of her. The cashier said yes and we got a kinda free shopping :) We could buy a pack of chewing gum too and we only really paid a few cents. Made our day.

I work at a gas station with a soda dispenser in it and do the same thing, to some extent. If a regular that comes in all the damn time always grabs a soda or a coffee, I won't charge them for it. The 52 oz cup of soda costs the store probably 8-15 cents to make, and even less for the coffee...
I worked at a card shop temporarily over christmas, and the minimum wage for my age is £4.20 ($5.55) and the only part of my job I enjoyed other than talking to coworkers was telling people they couldn't come into the store immediately before it closed. Also, no, when I tell you we have no more of these Christmas cards in the back two days before Christmas, I mean it, and I will not look in the back "just in case." I *will* stand in the back, looking at the empty shelves, for as long as I can get away with, allowing me to rest and wasting your time. Minimum wage, minimum effort
Back when I was in Lawn & Garden at the Walmart in my hometown, I always helped people load stuff into their vehicles / vehicle beds. It could be 20+ bags of mulch/fertilizer/dirt, or just some groceries for an elderly customer. Despite the pay being low, I loved to help people. Point being, there were times when people tried to tip me when I helped them. But being the rule follower I'm damned to be, I would always politely refuse and explain why I couldn't (usually ending with how I could be seriously reprimanded or fired). I feel like I should've taken the money sometimes. This also reminds me of this one time I found a folded 100 dollar bill on the floor of my high school. IDK whose it was, but it wouldn't be hard to guess my reaction from finding it. But ultimately, I ended up turning it into the front office. I wish I wasn't so nice sometimes...
I'm an honest person, but I never turn in money that I find; main reason being that whoever you turn it in to is 99.999999999% of the time just going to put it in their own pocket and if a person actually comes looking for it, they will just say "Why, no, no one has turned anything in at all!" when all the time they have the money in their own pocket. If the original owner isn't going to have it, I'm not giving it to someone else.
I worked at a pizza hut a a delivery drive. I also had a 350z that I used for delivery. on my 3rd night I hit a pot hole a damaged the driver side exhaust heat shield and that would cause my trunk to heat up. After a few months I figured out who the regulars where and that if it took to long to get a pizza to a customer the price would be cut down to half off and the store would still make money off the pizza. On Friday and Saturday I would get 5 orders at a time I would find my regulars call them and ask if they where willing to wait for there pizza and tell them if they did they would get it half off. If they said yes I would put the pizza over the hot spot in the trunk. My customers got half off but piping hot pizza and got 20$ tips. if it took a really long time I would set my route to go down long flat empty streets and give the car a shit ton of gas just to make sure the pizza is warm.

Damn, minimum wage workers are pretty chill unless you're not chill to them and really, that's YOUR fault.
I used to work in an electronics store selling everything from appliances, pcs, phones and stereo systems or whatever other electronics.
Whenever someone was nice id try to get them a deal by cutting down the markup, and some of the in house brands of accessories like chargers, mouse pads, or whatever else the in house brand made I could drop the price by like 80%
That $80 hdmi cable? $16
That $3000 tv? $2800
Want our extended warranty?

I was questioned by management about it only once and told them I would be happy to stay that extra 15 minutes if I was being paid for it or had it returned in paid break time.
If you respect your employees and people working in stores you patron then chances are you will receive the same in kind.
conclusion: be nice. it costs you nothing
It could even make things cheaper!

@Racist Chicken how does being nice cost you your pride?
My policy is "Just ask me nicely." I'm willing to do a lot for people who are kind.
Quibbling over stupididty with upper management is a pain! I feel you.
Exactly. On tip of the fact my coworkers are lazy and I have to pick up after them? And do their work? Half ass all the way.
If they want you to care about their products they should pay more. Good for you. I did the same thing when I worked minimum wage.
BlackHippe ah yes. The benefits of unionized minimum wage jobs. I know your suffering.
The lesson here is that all minimum wage employees will base their service off of your attitude. Take it from a minimum wage manager at a craft store, I only care if you're nice.

I used to work as a waiter and I got minimum wage. For most of you reading this, waiters are allowed tips in probably almost every restaurant in your area. It’s the exact opposite in the UK (well at least London). I finished serving a couple and the man handed me £5. Me:”sorry I can’t take tips, but thank you” him: you can’t.... but you can” and he kept his hand up. I took the money and thanked him once again. Great guy :)
Quadri CSGO that’s when you pocket it as quickly as possible
Quadri CSGO I don’t even think that’s a London thing, more of a specific horrible place to work.
As someone on Minimum Wage in Retail, I'll tell you two things:
In my store, we aren't allowed to give out change to customers, and if you purchase something, the change we are supposed to give you is the minimum amount of coins needed.

That Christmas story was heartwarming and tearjerking.

Pretty darn good and fair of you to make that round trip. No wonder they were nice to you!
I used to be regular at this gas station who had decent coffee for good prices all throughout highschool and i remember it would be like 6 am I’d be in pajamas lookin like death and the guy at the register would see me say hi and already have my coffee price pulled up on the register a few times i walked in grabbed my coffee went to pay and he’d just be liek no this one is on the house and that always stuck with me i was dead on my feet but i was always polite and in return i got a few free coffees
I stopped going there when the coffee mixed with my ADD and anxiety got to much and made me have panic attacks but i went there again today like 2 years later and he recognized me something
i live near a donut shop and love their sandwiches. i have been short twice and they let it slide. i do feel bad though and will tell my parents next time they go there to cover my shortage at the tip jar
There was this guy around 60-65 who had a shop around the corner
My friends found him a lil annoying as he would easily get frustrated (given his age) but i used to nice to him always
I would also chat with him whenever i would be picking up things from his shop
He was very stern on not giving anyone credit on anything so it came as surprise to me when i wanted to buy something and i was short and he let me have it ( i paid later )
But he still refused the same to my friend lmao
I was at a bakery store (in Germany they are often inside of supermarkets) to get some food during a city trip .
In front of me and my mate was a guy who almost yelled at the bloke behind the counter .
The yelling guy was pretty rude and the poor counter bloke seemed like he was close to cry .
So when it was my turn to order the counter bloke looks and me and my mate and asks if he could get a minute before completing our orders.
I just said „yeah sure“ since neither me or my mate were in any type of hurry and we could see that the counter bloke needed a tiny brake .
So after two or three minutes counter bloke returns , thanks us and hands us a donut with our order „to thank us for the patience“
It did cost me and my mate like two minutes or so but for the counter bloke that probably meant a lot more since he seemed close to tears and probably had a stressful day already when the yelling idiot came to top it all...
I hope you gave him big a tip mate
because he gets minimum wage and has to deal with that kind of shit on the daily
You are a good man, doing that for a retail worker.
In Germany we call this “Ehrenmann”
This kind of bullshit is why I keep refusing promotion offers.
the ones about movie theaters resonate sooooo much with me lmaoooo also some extra about it: if we sell icees/slushies were probably not able to give you refills but if you’re nice enough no one has to know, when i sell nachos i don’t charge extra cheese i just give the damn cup, if i catch people bringing snacks i just tell them to hide them better but if you’re an asshole? that’ll be 75 cents for extra cheese and you’re not allowed to bring outside food sorry
But how would you know if someone is an asshole on first glance

We were really busy too, and she huffed and puffed that I didn't have her special order of wine magically appear.
$20/day? Today, that's almost as much as a month of "black card" membership. I wonder if that's the idea.
Geez

I'd imagine the cause of minimum wage workers' behavior is less how much they're getting paid and more how they are treated by coworkers and managers, and how well the business is managed.
cuz for minimum wage jobs, you're completely disposable. if you get fired thers only a few day gap before another takes your place :/
@@WaveOfSilence I agree. People are one of the easiest things to replace, especially when it comes to minimum wage.
More along the lines of customers
How much you're paid IS a part of how you're treated.

I got maximum grades for minimum wage.
Lol, jokes I was homeschooled on reddit.
So cool
What was the most memorable impression?
@@sm5675 I distinctly remember a guy coming in for a suit and he gave off a dirty Harry impression that made me think he was Clint Eastwood's nephew or something.
@@Softpaw1996 i think they meant that the candy bars were placed in the wrong spot. So the sign said they were 50% off, but the candy bars werent meant to go in that spot.

I used to suck at math too and then I started playing a game in my head to see if I could guess the change due back to them before the drawer opened. that really helped, I didn't even need a calculator for large bills. the trick is figuring out the cents first then minus 1 dollar.

“I giveth, i taketh away” whoever that person was, i wholeheartedly agree with you.
