@@neurocosmfor me, Headrush is better because you can't stack effects in valeton + you can't customize the pedals with an hybrid type in valeton like pedal 1 is for rig then 2 and 3 is for turning on or off some effects. This may be a really naive question but what if I wanted to use the MX-5 purely as a pedalboard with my current amp and cabinet? How would I set that up? Four cable method?
Try the headrush directly into the amp. Make sure your sounds aren't super hot, and the levels are all close. I have better results with this than even the four cable method. Most of my big tube heads have a long plate tube in the first position and I run the clean channel with the Headrush in front. Let that first tube full up the sound a touch, and let the power tubes warm up the sound. You may be super surprised. And, this gives you the freedom to try different distortion and amp types, but still get the room warmth of a good amp.
