We have 15 inch cabinets. The hood range is 12 inches. The quarts back splash make up ~ 1 3/8 of the three inch gap. Do you have recommendations to fill that 1 5/8 gap?
@@Hauslane Thanks for the quick reply. Sounds like there would be a huge market for something like that with so many people replacing microwaves hung on 15-inch cabinets with range hoods.
Just installed for a customer and this sucker really sucks 🙂. It was fairly difficult to get to the back screws but other than that was a medium level difficulty for an experienced handyman. I was disappointed for the customer that it only had one light setting, and the one setting is very bright. I was really surprised that something this nice with such high reviews would only have one light setting. Even the cheapest under the cabinet microwaves have at least two light settings.
The hole for the power cord at the back and the screw that attaches the hood to kitchen cabinet are very close or even at the same place. Or I missed something?
Hi there. Yes, the power cord will be on the rear right side of the unit (on the top) which will be nearby the mounting hole for the rear right screw. - Hauslane
I am installing this unit over the next 2 days. Currently we have an existing 4 inch round vent pipe (not corrugated or flex but the ROUND SMOOTH galvanized pipe) which will be used for this vent hood. It has approximately 6 feet of pipe which includes 1 - 90 degree elbow and 2 - 45 degree elbows until it exits the exterior wall. my question is... will using the 4 inch pipe in the configuration i described hurt the unit in any way, specifically the fan motors by reducing the venting capacity with the 4 inch vent pipe ?
Hello - Our PS18 is designed for a 6" ducting size. We do not recommend constricting the ducting to a smaller size, as this can affect the suction and efficacy of the range hood. If you have any further questions, feel free to reach out to our support team at support@hauslane.com - Hauslane
We recommend at least 28 inch. Most local building local set the minimum distance at 24". Make sure you purchase unit that is full stainless steel to withstand the heat.
What are the recommended gaps (i) between the side of the cabinet wall and the side of the range hood and (ii)between the back tiles of the kitchen and the back side of the range hood?
Hi Rabi, The UC-PS18 is 29 3/4" wide, to fit inside a 30" cabinet space. So that is around 1/4" of wiggle room. The 36" size PS18 is 35 3/4" for a 36" cabinet width leaving 1/4" of space. The under-cabinet unit will mount to the bottom of the cabinet, but should be relatively flush with the wall. How would you decide between this model, the PS -18 and the PS -38. With a 6" duct (1 turn to outside, about a 7ft run of ducting) which would be quietest at 600 cfm?
Hi Polly! The PS18 and PS38 are great choices. Both are high powered range hoods designed for heavy duty cooking styles. The PS38 is 960CFM on the highest fan speed setting, and is equipped with auto-steam clean to help keep the fans and panel clean! This model is capable of venting from the top 6" duct included. The PS18 is 860CFM on the highest fan speed setting, although it does not have auto clean, the grid-like baffle filters are easy to clean as they are easily removable and dishwasher safe. The PS18 is versatile as it comes with adapters included for top round, top rectangular, and rear venting. - Hauslane
Yes. The height for our UC-PS18 is 8". After you install the UC-PS18, you should have 26" left between the range hood and your cooktop. For electric cooktop, we recommend a distance of 24"-30". Thanks.

My contractor just installed it, but it's making a very strange harsh grinding sound when I turn it on, which stops as it is running, but again exact same grinding sound when I turn it off. Did I get a lemon?
Hi. I am sorry that you are having such problem. Please reach out to our customer service team and we can assist you to resolve this issue. One quick check up - unplug the unit, remove the duct from the range hood, and check to see if there's any foreign object (possibly the damper) dislodged in the motor housing. Thanks.
Are the four screws enclosed for installation enough to hold the 37 pounds of weight of the hood? Is any other alternative I can do to secure the hood to make sure it is fully supportive. Any advice? thanks
Hauslane Hoods are designed to be used with standard 12" cabinets and are not too heavy to use with the screws alone. For extra reinforcement, some customers have tried replacing screws with a nut and bolt of the same size from the local hardware store.
@@Hauslane What is the diameter and the length of the screws so that I can buy replacement nuts and bolts of the same size before the installation person arrives? This video and other video covering these range hoods could have spent a bit more time getting into more detail of the installation part, seems it just got skimmed over. The cloth that is included works really well removing dust/finger prints after installation :) I plan on using smart bulbs to be able to control the intensity of the light and colour range. In general, flex should not be used. Some foil/mylar and semi-rigid based flex ducts are flammable. Depending on your local building code flex may be prohibited. For instance, the IRC code M1503.3 requires that “The duct shall have a smooth interior surface …” and M1503.4 specifies that “Ducts serving domestic cooking exhaust equipment shall be constructed of galvanized steel, stainless steel or copper.” Also as noted in basc.pnnl.gov/resource-guides/kitchen-exhaust-retrofit-duct-guide#edit-group-description “The duct serving the range hood should be made of rigid metal such as galvanized steel or stainless steel and should have a smooth interior surface. Metal or plastic flex ducts are prohibited. This is a common code violation related to kitchen exhaust systems.”

Yes. The only thing to confirm is the size of your vent. Our UC-PS18 will fit any 6" round vent. If your vent is bigger than 6" then you would need to purchase a converter from a hardware store. if your vent is smaller than 6", then our suggestion is to run a new duct. Thanks.
