And yes, I learned this mindset form Robert, as well, through his book Rich Dad, Poor Dad. It's crazy how precisely the opening chapter nailed how I was raised.

I think there should be an additional clarification to this: these people that you spend time around to improve and learn from, and to motivate yourself from, are often not true "friends", but more of "friendly acquaintances". These people are good to improve yourself and have a good life, and they can be the people you spend most of your time with, but they are usually not your true friends. True friends are people who you can rely on no matter what the situation is, who you can call at anytime anywhere and trust that they will help you. True friends don't need to be smarter or more successful than you, they just need to be honest and dependable, because those people are rare and priceless.
Otherwise, these rich people that you might be "friends" with for self-growth, as he talks about, will often drop you in a second if something unexpected happens in your life and you are no longer successful and are in need of help.

I was thinking the same; some of my friends are simply good people that I've gotten to know over time as we were doing our own things and I just feel good when I'm with them. I suppose we inadvertently learn from each other, but it's not a main motivation for being friends; mainly there's a mutual respect and support, and we don't really seek anything of each other. And there is a lot of security in that, to my mind anyway. So that is just another, certain category of friends to me...But those other kinds of false friends you mention...I find them to be equally distributed across the socio-economic spectrum, actually.

Andrew - something I would add to this list is "Not want anything from people who are wealthier than you, other than their company and good humour!" So many people who have wealth feel under siege from people who always seem to want something from them, or have ulterior motives. Money, or rather the lack of it, can make people act weird , dishonest, unpleasant, and sometimes just plain dangerous to your health. Just being a good friend, sharing common interests , and being able to trust and relax around you, people with wealth will often overlook whether you have a fortune or not.

This is so true. My grandson (mid 20's) as an "acquaintance" who is a big celebrity. They cross paths every so often and enjoy a night out with the boys. Last time the two of them were alone, which is very rare since the celebrity always has dozens of people around him. My grandson said, "Let me buy you a beer". The celebrity was stunned. He said, never before had anyone offered to buy a beer for him. He was always the one paying..... Sometimes it can be a lonely life for those who are celebrities and have wealth.

  • @thorthorenson4296

So true... When I tell people about getting a second passport they stare at me like I'm an alien. I am surrounded people who are so fear ridden including family especially during these times. They are stuck in the paradigm and the "matrix" of the Jonses. I'm working, and have been for a long time, on extricating myself from this paradigm and mindset and humbly have failed many times. I will probably fail some more but I will continue to get better and persevere to achieve the lifestyle I want. At close to middle age I want the next half of my life to serve my needs, help my family's needs, and to give me the freedom to go wherever I'm treated best before I depart this Earth. You CAN teach an older dog new tricks if the dog is open and humble to learning them. Every passing minute is a chance to turn it all around.

I like this because it is true, fear is self limiting and those who base their lives on it will rarely have success, To always have friends who can help you though i think has selfish aspects, the question then is why would those who can help you want you to be around them since you cannot help them? I think we should be intentional to surround ourselves with those who can help us and also be intentional to find people we can help who are looking to improve themselves. This doesn't mean to surround ourselves with losers but those who are looking to improve themselves. Be an encourager, look to better yourself, add value to this world in a positive way.

Meanwhile, I was a lone wolf and would often skip meals at the shelter to attend entrepreneur meet ups. I wanted to meet others who were doing what I wanted to. Many of my homeless 'peers' would do what I call homeless work (collecting bottles and cans, panhandling, ect) at the time they were making more money than me but I took the time to educate myself on entrepreneurship and financial literacy and started my business whole homeless. My guidance counselor said That's too risky, you should find a job. I replied Where's the risk? I have nothing to loose. Sadly, I lost a lot of respect for social workers during this time. Im alone most of the time, but God gives me my confidence and God gives me my widsom, however I would like to be around like minded people but unfortunetely I dont have many people who are on my path, family can be like that also without realizing, they can doubt you and make you doubt yourself or try I dont listen to it, I cant really keep away from family, but when im busy i cant stay around them or its a distracting with people like that

I’ve lived in 3 countries and have 5 passports!
I’ve been consumed with learning, reading and treating patients.
When it comes to having friends, I have a few in each place I lived. They were instrumental in my settling, understanding the culture, adapting, and supporting me in tough times.
However, friends are rare, those who are close to us, are very rare. What kind? The ones that can keys deep conversation, that brings disruption in our thoughts, the ones that point to a new place to go!
Truly, I’m 74 now, and we change, when a friend changes, or when we changed, time to part. It’s in part a loss, in part our new adventure.
As you mentioned, avoid the blood sucker, the narcissist, the seducer. Life brings so many opportunities to meet people. You be the judge!

10:15 That's me. They just don't get it. I want to up and run but they keep bringing up the fear of the unknown. So much so that now I've chosen to avoid them even if they're family. Talk about been loved to death. It's almost as bad as having your dreams buried.

I'm not quite the smartest person in the room even when I'm alone in the room.
It's a challenge at times finding others who have the same mindset concerning wealth and success. If I want to find long-term friends, I look for the ones who have the same sense of humour. Those are long-lasting, and very productive.

The most fulfilling relationships I've ever had came from my meditation group because what resonates with your spirit is your core essence. This is key. What does your spirit value? Who are the ones who value that? Those are your spirit tribe. 🙏🏽🌈💝

I agree with this and make sure to hold on to those few true friends that are happy for you and support you even if not wanting what you want. The other thing when living in new places is meeting new people. Find something you love doing and find a meet up or place people are doing it. In non-English speaking countries there is usually a Facebook group or meetup for English speaking people in that city. This is a great way to make friends and get help when you need a locals help. My Italian was fine face to face but needed help with setting up services on the phone.

Be ready to drop a "friend" before you drop your standards and believe the red flag the first time they show it to you! My mistake/s left me homeless so take it from me - STAY IN THE CIRCLE BY ANY MEANS ONCE YOU ARRIVE AND DONT STEP BACK OUT FOR ANYTHING!!!

Thank you Andrew. I've wanted to live like you since I was a teenager. I have been going down the path of an employee, but I've never fit in. I work like crazy and make good money for an employee but I am starting to implement my work ethic into a personal online business in order to live the nomad capitalist life. Thank you for continuing to inspire.

This advice seems rather focused on spending time with people who have something to offer you (knowledge or connections) , and I certainly agree with distancing yourself from those want to bring you down. But I rather hope that some people are also thinking about what they can offer to others who don't much to give in return.
