“Plays like the real arcade game”
Oh, *sure.......*
Allow me to be the first (and probably only) one to say I like this game, It was a favorite ever since I was kid. I am well aware that there are far more "Better" versions out there and I own most of them, but this one will always hold that special place for me. After all, isn't that why we play retro games in the first place?
Like I said in my review, I could see myself playing this as a kid. If I did, I may have similar feelings to you on it.
I kinda like this game, too. When I first started out collecting in the late '90s, one of the very first systems I got was an Intellivision (a boxed Sylvania, at that!), and one of the games that came with it was Donkey Kong. Since most of the other games were two-player only affairs (which NObody wanted to play with me in those halcyon days of the PS1 and N64) and somewhat dense strategy games, DK got quite a bit of play. I still like to give it a spin every now and then.
At any rate, it's better than Donkey Kong Junior for Intellivision.
BassGuitari ... Nice!, You are right though... There are a lot of great Intellivision games that require 2 players. I think the developers thought that most people would only play video games with a friend. Donkey Kong Jr is also awesome on the intellivsion!
"Plays like the real arcade game!" Yeah, right.
I think Mario looks like a Berenstain Bear in this version.
I hated this version. It was way below Intellivision's capabilities. The Colecovision version was obviously superior. Burgertime showed us the system was so much better!
Never did like this port at all. Nothing about it to me anyway is good. Thinknyour review is 100% dead on bro!
Thanks again Creep!
Even for the time this is a butt ugly port. I'll stick with my Colecovision version. Great review!
Thank you!
Donkey Kong was the must-have game for Christmas 1982, resulting in 500K ColecoVision consoles that came with it being sold. Pitfall! was a big seller when E.T. turned out to be a big return. If they hadn't released Donkey Kong for other systems would they have sold more ColecoVIsions? Who knows. But like Atari Pac-Man they patted themselves on the back for using a smaller-than-standard 4K chip for the cartridges to save money (and piss people off).
Love Donkey Kong on any console
my first console was my cousin's hand me down Intellivision and this game came with it,played it more than all the other 40+ games I got
Any real DK fan has to play DK on at least five or six different platforms....
Ugh. Maybe the worst arcade port on any system. I can see why people thought Coleco was trying to sabotage Intellivision with it.
Pac-Man for the 2600 is far worse
@@SailorMaxie Arcade Pac Man had only 1 maze, so the 2600 isn't missing that much. This is missing 2 whole stages.
bad game. Good review as usual Phil! Please keep the Intv stuff coming. Thanks!
Thanks! I've got another Intellivision review later this week and also one further down the line.
great looking forward to it.
There is a remake of this version, and it looks like it's a fair competition to the ColecoVision version. Blows this original version out of the water.
In fact, when Jumpman grabs a hammer here, It's not even animated correctly!
I had no idea Donkey Kong came out on Intellivision.
Sorry I had to let you know, lol.
Not sure if you've done these or not, but you should check out Baseball and Triple Action.
I have not reviewed them yet, but I believe I have both in my collection.
Try reviewing DK Arcade for Intellivision....probably the best Donkey Kong on any classic system.
You are right. NSG schould really review that one.
I'm guessing you haven't seen the DK VCS homebrew.
Yeah, I have. It beats it.
Both this and the 2600 version are interchangeable levels of awful, but this gets the slight edge because of the unresponsive jump and movement controls. Good video
I used a Sega Master System controller to play this on my Sears Intellivision because of the weirdly picky controls.
Mario kind of looks like a low-res Fix it Felix.
Play the home brews.
Kong is on the wrong side ! Right ? The 2600 looked better than this
2600 version was at least as good as this , with better gameplay mechanics....
"Plays like the real arcade game!"
No.
First View.By the way nice video
