I love the way you do the cucumbers. I'll do that from now on. I'm 78 and still learning. Thank you!
I'm so glad you found something new.
This comment made me smile 😊
I love this comment! I hope you’re doing well! 💖
So modest.... Respect 😚
I love this, it’s never late learning something new.
I have a plastic knife made just for cutting salad. I read years ago that the metal knives oxidizes the salad and that's why it turns brown. The plastic knife does seem to keep it fresher.
Koreans love ceramic knives! My family always has a few
Good tip, do not cut lettuce with metal knife or tear off with fingers. I would keep the tomatoes whole , not in fridge. Lasts a lot longer. Living alone, I have found they have lasted longer than a week.
Thanks for sharing..This is a smart technique that I would like to follow...GOD BLESS...
You are so welcome
Still a good video in 2020! I just use glass containers instead of the bags. Thanks for saying you can reuse the bags some just throw them away after one use!! So many people (including me at some point) think iceberg lettuce had no or littleutrients. But if researched.... You'll see it differently!
Thanks for watching!
FYI romaine lettuce is more healthy for your family. My Dr told me that lettuce is bad for your colon. Just thought you might want this information.
theb trick to helping it not brown is to tear it instead of cutting it
Yes that would work too. Thanks for sharing your tip.
I heard plastic package isn’t good for food. Any body knows how true it is?
no it isnt I buy mixed leaves in plastic. I now take them out then put them in an air tight container.
@Heavenlygod it’s good grade plastic and will be BPA free.
Use baby tomatoes
I never its that easy to prepare lettuce
I use the zip bags. Once I have my salad in each bag I zip it up except for a tint corner, I put my finger in and squeeze it open like a pee pod and suck the excess air out and seal the last tiny bit up. There you have it, a vacuum packed zip bag.
I take my washed leaves and roll them into paper towel tubes, before putting them into a square plastic container with a tight fitting lid. Then take out one roll each day. A large compartment container holds the tomato, onion, cucumber, etc.. Very fast, very fresh, very easy.
We don't know know the contents of those tubes. They may not be food safe.
@@daphnemiller5910 I can tell you! The contents are whatever you put in there. If you put "washed lettuce leaves" in the rolled up paper towels, almost all of the time washed lettuce leaves, will come out. Now, once in awhile a winning lottery ticket might pop out, in that case, I'd appreciate it, if you'd send them back to me!
Perhaps my comment wasn't clear, or you're just a joker. Don't know. Anyway, of course I was referring to the tubes themselves, not the lettuce or any other thing you insert into your paper towel tubes. @@rogerdodger8415
@@daphnemiller5910 There are no tubes OTHER than the paper towels that form them. The "washed" lettuce has no more bacteria than any head of lettuce in your refrigerator.
@@rogerdodger8415 I was thinking you were using the brown cardboard tube that is inside the roll of paper towels! You apparently are saying you roll your towels into a tube shape. It's a case of misunderstanding.
Using a plastic lettuce knife helps the lettuce not to rust
Speaking of getting as much air out, i saw a chef zip the bag almost closed, place a straw in the corner and suck out the air. Really neat!
P s.. It's better to use a lettuce knife(plastic) to cut the lettuce, to prevent browning. It's has something to do with a metal knife and air that turns it brown. Better yet, just tear it up by hand and keep the water off by using a salad spinner.
Love that idea with the straw. Thank you, never thought of that.
Cucumber seeds are part of the flavor
Glad you like to leave them in, it's always an option. I just don't care for large cucumber seeds so I remove them.
That doesn't look like enough for four people. But thanks. Some good ideas to save time.
Agreed
Dorcas Whitaker That might be enough for One person, definitely not Four! I don't think that would last just me a week.
This salad would barely be enough for me and my partner in one sitting. And also, there’s hardly any carrot/tomatoes/cucumber in it...you’d be lucky to get one or two pieces in your actual meal. Each to their own though I guess.
Thanks alot for your advices! Very informative video.
Does anyone knows the background music? I like it alot!
Thanks you
Thanks, and I like the music too.
Tear lettuce 🥬. Thank you for your idea
Use a container don’t waste plastic bags
Yes, you could use a container if you prefer. But my plastic bags last quite a while since I wash and reuse them.
so nicely done, thx for your video, hugs new york xo
You must store the tomatoes for a long time in a brown paper bag. This way they do not lose their flavor. But not in the fridge! Try !
Keeping a vegetable or fruit (which is what a tomato is) in a brown paper bag hastens the ripening process. Leave the tomatoes uncovered on your counter.
How to store the cucumbers for a long time? Do you know? Tell me, please!
works better if you use 1/2 paper towel for veggies as you did lettuce
That’s not a safe way to wash the lettuce. Either open it up the first day and wash it very well or when you are ready to eat some of it take off the leaves on the amount you want to eat, clean the leaves individually and let it dry off water. You’ll be surprised the amount of insects and stuff you find inside. I totally give my lettuce a bath.
salad spinner works great
Wow.,.check your lettuce leaves for bugs! Hold leaves up to light, you will be amazed.
Iceburg doesnt have much nutritional value
But it has a lot of fibre and is watery to help digestion.
@@pattigee1 Have a glass of water.
Iceberg lettuce really has very little nutritional value. Also, I have always read not to refrigerate tomatoes. It changes the taste of the tomatoes. But, thank you for the other tips.
Ann Otto i live in Malaysia, we have to refrigerate our tomatoes if not, it will spoil within a day. Maybe it's our hot climate
Masrur izz Then you definitely need to refrigerate your tomatoes. Fortunately, we live in Prescott, Az, U.S.A., which has 4 mild seasons. We can leave our tomatoes on the kitchen counter, for many days, without spoilage. Thank you for telling me of your dilemma.
fibre
No lettuce has any if little nutritional value . What it has is filling fiber and fluid which is beneficial.
@@beth8678 The greener the lettuce does have more nutritional value!
I have two bags full of cherry tomatoes. How can I keep them fresh longer? I am a family of one.
loved it.....gonna try for sure....
Thank you for this
Love this thnk u for sharing this
Love it
thank you!
Tomatoes loose their flavor during refrigeration.
Nice perfecto
❤❤❤❤ it!
Wow that little salad for 4 people
It is enough for one salad for our family. I would double or triple the amount if we are eating salad more than once in a week. I hope that helps.
will last longer if you rinse the lettuce after cutting with lemon water and drain
Thanks for sharing your tip, I appreciate it.
Always cut away from you ‼️safety first
Do you worry at all about all the plastic touching your food
I don't but if you do, you can always store the prepped food in a covered glass dish.
@@frugalfamilyhome that's true lol, I do use both, plastic and glass. Thanks for responding🙂
Omg thank u soooooo much !!!
Welcome!!
Thank you Frugal for taking the time and sharing how to prepare food!!!
You are so welcome!
Cool info. Does it matter if you tear or cut the lettuce? I used to cut and someone said not to.
I don't cut the lettuce ahead of time. I just wash it and then cut it right before I serve it. But if you cut the lettuce ahead of time, tearing it would be a better option.
Yes don't cut it just tear it with your hands
Cool info. Does it matter if you tear or cut the lettuce? I used to cut and someone said not to.
what if we don't have ziploc bags? will it last a week?
Just store the ingredients in a air tight container and it should last a week.
Madam are you freezing the cut vegetables ??????
No, just storing them in the refrigerator until needed.
