Turn Your 10% Tinnitus Rating Into A 90% VA Disability Rating!

  • Oh Tinnitus...Such an annoying disability with such a low percentage (10%) granted if the VA grants you service connection. I've had Veterans tell me "Why should I even submit a claim for it if it is only worth 10%?" My answer is ALWAYS secondary service connection..
Let me explain. Almost every single VA Disability has the ability to cause or make other disabilities worse. Tinnitus is no different. In fact, the two most common Secondary VA Disabilities that are caused or made worse by Tinnitus are Migraines and Anxiety. The nice thing about these claims is that they are considered "High Value"... This is any claim that has the ability to be granted a 30% or more rating on its own.
If you are wondering how you can take your measly 10% Tinnitus rating and turn it into 70% or even 90% then watch this quick video and take some notes!
    -
If you're visiting for the first time I'd like to welcome you to For The Corps. I understand first hand how difficult transitioning out of the Military is. I left active duty in 2014 and walked away with a measly 20% Disability Rating. At the time I was happy with a little extra cash. Year after year my conditions that I never got looked at while on active duty started to worsen, my mental health severely declined and my marriage was hanging on by a thread which later ended altogether. I was lost and considered taking my own life many times. I didn't understand what the hell was happening to me.
About 6 years after I'd gotten out of the military I checked myself in to the VA for a mental health evaluation. I was at the end of my rope. I decided to start taking action and getting the help I'd needed for so long. On this journey I met some other Veterans that literally took me under their wings. They educated me on the VA Disability Claims process and encouraged me to file for more claims. I ended up going from 20%-80%. This was life changing because not only was I receiving the help that I'd needed from the VA, but I was not scraping by paycheck to paycheck.
It is my MISSION to assist and help other Veterans and active duty service members as they transition out as well! For The Corps is my attempt at creating the resource I wish I had when I left the military!
Semper Fidelis to all of my brothers and sisters from all branches.

I had a lousy CMP. My examiner. For my claim for headache/migraine secondary to tinnitus, she scheduled me a review CMP exam for tinnitus. I was rated for tinnitus in 2007. I showed her my headache/migraines have been active since 2005 while in the military. I retired in 2007. Confirmed and active by VA. I informed VA. The only information they gave. I need to make the appointment if not my claim will be denied. Thanks a lot, LHI West Houston. You make have change your name. But your tactics have not changed (Optum Serve).

claims will turn around much faster if they are submitted 1 at a time. Raters are notorious for getting everything mixed up and delayed by combining everything into one claim (Duty to Assist). Start with your highest valued claim first such as Mental Health or Migraines. Getting on base at the 50@ level or greater places you in Tier 1 for VA Health Care. Sign up for it ASAP if you haven't already, request a primary care appointment, and establish a relationship with your VA primary care doctor. Do the same for mental health if you need it... Everything that is discussed including any chats you have in MyHealthyVet becomes evidence and part of your VA BlueButton medical record.

Emphasize the need to frequently lay down / so that they check the Prostrating Box on the DBQ. As this will count as a local attending physician/specialist and not a telehealth appointment, the VA will give it greater weight and service connect you at 50%. I have been doing a lot of reading from VA publications. I found that there are other types of tinnitus than ringing in ears.
Have you heard a pulse or wooshing sound in your ears. These are also tinnitus. These sounds usually come from repeated ear infections.
Until tonight i did not know that. The "pulsatile" tinnitus is a disability and falls under tinitis.
I have been reviewing my military medical records and founnd that I was treated three separate ocasions for ear infections. I get a sound in my ears that sounds like my heart beat. I didn't think it was related until I looked it up under ear infections and va ratings.
Everyone pretty much knows abou the obvious ringing but there are other type of tinnitus caused by sinusitis, ear infections and related ENT conditions.
High blood pressure can also cause this.
Please research this as I may not be explaining it enough. I still have to research it more myself to fully understand.
I just remember a really bad ear infection that had blood and pus spontaneously draining out of my ear while in the Navy. I would have two other infections. I get the pulsatile tinnitus.

If you have Tinnitus you can file a secondary claim for Migraines. these 2 go hand in hand. also something that is worth noting, if you fought in iraq or Afghanistan or gulf war era, check out the pact act presumptive conditions. chronic sinusitis and allergic rhinitis both fall under this, if you were around and in burn pits you will be automatically service connected for any of the presumptive conditions.
