I think it'd be a fun video to talk about the OKC thunder's GM Sam Presti potentially changing the way rosters are constructed in front of our eyes these past 2 years. From the way they use G League minutes to develop specific spots of players games, to the depth> star power ethos OKC has adopted. It makes me wonder, is a NY style 7 man, or even an 8-9 player rotation completely obsolete once teams like OKC start fielding highly competent, well coached 10-11 man depth charts. With parity at an all time high this could be the future of the league we're watching being made in real time
I did the rebuild video that had some of that but I didn't go that deep. I think a g league development video might be rad. talk about caruso, siakim, van vleet
youre late pop been minutes restricting since the 00s. He actually started the trend of the NBA penalizing teams for not playing their stars when he rested Duncan, Parker, and Ginobili against the Heatles, filing on the injury report "DNP-old".

hi whatslaps, happy monday as far as a video suggestion, i was wondering if you could maybe talk about moves that specific teams will try to make this offseason?
so the whatshorts channel used to be just the shorts, but I decided to experiment with long videos just so I could get to 4000 hours of watch time. You need 4000 hours to monetize the channel. that way I could make some money off my shorts. The plan was to stop making those videos once the channel was monetized, but now those videos make more money than these videos. Sometimes you just gotta try stuff, life is weird.
maybe a video on how the NBA transitioned into the run and gun 3 point focussed league it is today? I could easily be wrong, but I feel the Phoenix suns during the Steve Nash era really started that transition.
Liked for the great content, unliked for the multiple Nets strays used for the example of a team without a first round pick 💔 (or any for that matter), liked again cause after only crying for 20 minutes about it this time, i remembered it was great content 👍🏻.
Video idea: what makes a good leader in NBA? For example, do they have to be like Kobe/MJ, do they just have to be good at basketball and hope that the team sees that and makes you their guy? Or can you be like Draymond or something near that calibre?
Can you do a video on reviewing the East? Because I don’t understand how people say the East is weak when you have the Celtics, bucks, Knicks, and 76ers. You also have young teams like the pacers and the magic that don’t have “big” stars but have so much great potential. But is the west really better? The west has more star names, but that doesn’t mean that it’s more competitive imo. What do you think?
So is Like a trade for Boston's first round pick not as valuable because their pick is probably gonna be low? And If I trade my first round pick to another team, do where I place in the seeding determine the other teams pick?
Video suggestions here: 1. What would I do if I was Doc rivers ? 2. Good players stuck in bad teams 3. New trends in the NBA. E.g. More teams are looking for versatile big men
It's from a video I did about 2 years ago on memorial day. be good to your mothers is from a video that I released on mothers day 2 years ago. both videos are now private because they aren't good. It just stuck, and became my sign off. I don't hate it. No sponsorship involved sadly :(
Video idea: How valuable is a team friendly contract? (Like Steph's contract that allowed the Warriors to build the death lineup, and how Maxey's allowed the Sixers to get PG)
How long does a team hold the rights to a second round draftee? Could they in theory never sign a player to a standard contract and effectively freeze the player out of ever signing with a team that might want them?
Can you explain how a team can trade for a pick and that pick can be changed from year to year ? For example pelicans this year dont want the lakers pick bc the draft sucks, so they wait next year to use it
I actually didn't know about that. I think it's called a deferred pick, there's also protected picks which I've talked about in another video but should have included in this one.
What happenes if you select somebody in a draft and that somebody dies in like a week after draft do you get the pick back or something? Cuz there's that emergency draft in case of plane crash that kills all the team or something.
I don’t understand why the NBA doesn’t announce trades during the draft like the NFL does. Like there’s no reason for Luka and Trae to have been wearing the wrong hats on draft night, when we knew the trade had already happened lol. Especially when we’ve seen another league do this well (the NFL) with way more picks involved
Speaking of those 2nd round picks that can get forfeited, idk how to do it, but they somehow need to give those forfeited seconds to other teams. Either that or find a different punishment. If anything, the league slapping teams on the wrist by taking away a 2rp only hurts draftees chances of being drafted into the nba. Almost as if they are getting punished for what nba teams trying to be sneaky.
I heard once that Stern hated the Jail Blazers so much, that he called up Paul Allen and threatened he either break up the team, or 'your draft picks will be really bad next year'.
I dont know if it counts as a suggestion, but recently ive seen that some roleplayers are winning more rings that the star players in this era, like Holiday and KCP. The Caruso trade also seems to be in that line, since OKC are looking to contend and he won with LA in 2020. Maybe it can be a point in a video about roleplayers?
Another reason to not want to be drafted later: playing time. If a great team chooses, your development is not a priority, and unless you can contribute productive minutes immediately, you're probably staring at garbage time whenever you're not with the G-League affiliate. If you're Jaime Jaquez Jr. or Dereck Lively II, then you've already got the skillset to plug into a capable roster, but a Thompson twin still figuring out their jumpshot isn't seeing the floor under coach Spo. Conversely, the Spurs were the perfect situation for Wembanyama because they were pretty bad no matter how he played, so it's not a big deal if he's trying to Shammgod Rudy Gobert or take one-legged threes and committing eight turnovers a game. I suspect one reason he improve so much faster than, say, Chet Holmgren is that he had the freedom to fail and fail often, which is key to developing any skill
That's a great point. I think players ultimately want to be a part of an org that's excited about them and doesn't have ridiculous expectations of saving their franchise.
Protected means if it falls within a certain range it's either deferred to the following year or they don't get the pick. Pick swap means you have the right to swap picks with the other team if there's is higher. The trades for dummies video I believe explains it
I was wondering about the eligibility for an international player. The rules say that an international player must "have never enrolled in a U.S. college or university." to be eligible, does that mean that i can not study and play for a college if i want to play in the nba? (I know this sounds dumb, but i would appreciate it if someone could help me with this question)
you can either play professional basketball or college basketball. but you have to be a certain age by the time the season starts the year you were drafted.
Now that my team is gonna be drafting from the lottery since 2010, I hate the new lottery odds. The worst team should at best be guaranteed the 3rd pick.
do you think there's any weight to the '85 theory? it seems a lil far fetched but it seems like the league had a lot to gain. weird moment in league history fs.
Everyone seems to be explaining the same thing but can I know, as a simple european, who and how decides these 60 players to be drafted? Can I just apply and get 60th pick with 1 million on contract? How come Jokic had to go through draft if he was already pro in Europe? Do transfers like in football (soccer) even exist? How come Lebron was right after high school and some other players are after college? Cheers
you enter the draft, nba teams get the picks, All nba players must enter the draft before playing (unless they're over 30 I think), it's one league so players can be traded, No buys a players contract though, after 2004 high school players couldn't enter the draft. hope that's helpful!
I wonder why they don't show the actual ping pong balls being drawn, "we picked the balls behind the scenes and are now just telling you the results" still allows for funny business doesn't it? Must be kinda crazy to be drafted and never see the court "yay I've been picked by an NBA team!... oh darn *sad face*". A lot of the picky changey stuff sort of makes my brain spin, you explained it well, it's just a little switchity in my mind and I don't know how to give a helpful contributing comment 😵💫. Anyway you da miz-an as always, appreciate the dopeness viddy.
I actually got something wrong about the draft lottery. Only the first four picks are chosen by the lottery balls. The rest of the teams just get their picks in order by record. That's why the Pistons are so tragic they got the worst pick they could. A lot of those Euros never come over, just because they're already under contract by a team in Europe. 2 of the french guys this year are having their contracts bought out by their NBA teams though. Comments always appreciated man! Always look forward to them! thanks for the engagement, brother.
it means if the pick ends up falling between a certain range let's say 1-5, the team receiving the pick either loses it or it moves to the following year.
Not sure if you have done a video on it, but I would love to know why so many NBA fans are totally conviced that the league is rigged and how easily it can be disproven.

@@whatslaps Yeah, I think you are correct there. It appears to be less about hard facts and more so about people believing they know the truth.

Do Caitlin Clark's haters can hate? (a review of Diana Taurasi, Sheryl Swoopes and others careers and it ends with I don't think Taurasi is hating... relax duuuudes )
I know. at first I thought it was good for the league just because it was getting the W attention. Now I'm starting to realize it's reinforcing some negative stereotypes about women that aren't true.
