Still love this era. I didn’t enjoy it as much as the time around fatal attractions and age of apocalypse which is when I was first introduced to the X-men though. Still a must buy for me though
Loved this era of X-men especially with the Joe Mad artwork. I still have my copy of the Wizard magazine with the X-men versus Magneto and Sabertooth. It was a fold out cover that I looked at that everyday.
I think vol. 2, X-men Inferno Aftermath, and a Phalanx Covenant collection in OHC is all I need left for the 90's. Then we can turn to Joe Casey and Matt Fraction for the aughts.
It's a shame the omnibus' from this era don't print the exclusive covers the Marvel/Panini UK Collectors' Editions from.titles like Essential X-Men and Wolverine Unleashed.
Pre-ordered and looking forward to it. Looks like real peak-90s - an era I dropped out of collecting due to the art but strangely now I really like it as a nostalgic period piece and enjoy its unrestrained qualities. Thanks Omar. Some good stuff coming out this month.
If marvel ever makes an omnibus of the swimsuit specials, I hope they use either captain america reading the constitution, morbius speedo, or the rogue & gambit art for the covers.
I just want to know if there will be an omni that fills the gap between the upcoming Blue/Gold and Fatal Attractions Omni.... should I get both... should I get just one.... should I wait... should I move to Epics...
Perhaps Marvel could collect those X-Men issues alongside X-Force #19-24 and the Wolverine and Excalibur issues leading into Fatal Attractions, calling it Road to Fatal Attractions or some such. This would have the benefit of including the Starjammer Excalibur issues, and a lot of X-Men guest appearances in Wolverine. X-Men: Survival Guide to the Mansion and the 1993 Gambit series, which are both in the Fatal Attractions epic collection but not the omni, could also be included. They could even include Cable #1-5, to lead into #6-8 in the Wedding of Cyclops & Phoenix.
@nickbaker1541 now we are talking, so there is a lot of orphan material that could fill up a prelude/road type of omni. I just wish they invlude some type of line name in the titles like "event line" or "number line" or "author line" so we know what line we are collecting and don't en up with double dips and gaps.
@@OrangeGeemer Apart from the X-Men issues, Survival Guide to the Mansion, and Gambit #1-4 (which will hopefully one day be in a Gambit omnibus) nothing else I suggested is actually orphaned in omni format. The Cable and X-Force issues are in the Deadpool & X-Force Omnibus, the Wolverine issues are in Wolverine Omnibus vol. 4, and the Excalibur issues are in Excalibur Omnibus vol.'s 2 and 3. So if you collect everything X-related, there would be a lot of double dipping with a Road to Fatal Attractions omnibus, at least one mapped the way I've suggested. If you don't mind mixing omnis and paperbacks the X-men: A Skinning Of Souls TPB perfectly fills the gap, collecting X-Men #17-24 plus the Survival Guide to the Mansion. I suspect a future Uncanny X-Men Omnibus vol. 11 will include X-Men #17-24 alongside the UXM Fatal Attractions issues, but at the rate the numbered UXM omnis are being published vol. 11 is most likely over a decade away.
Do I need this book as I already have road to onslaught tpbs vol 1 to 3 I buy to read so format is not that important except I do not buy single issuezs
No you should be good! Me too i have the 3 tpb, and the gambit 1-4 is in wolverine vol 5 so i got majority of this book already, its just the starjammerz
Hey Near Mint! This is off topic to the current video. But could you do a video on the reading order to Scott Snyders Dark Knights Metal/Death Metal please. It has tie ins and stuff with his Batman Who Laughs also his Justice League. Would be super helpful, thank you!!
God just looking at all the omnibus from the 90s and how horribly out of print and expensive they are makes my heart ache... I'm hoping this and Fatal Attractions means they're going to reprint everything from that decade...
I would consider myself a casual x-men fan but watching your overviews and hearing your passion always makes me want to read more of them! Thank you Omar for all that you do for this community!
I know ultimately it reallly doesn't matter...but Im getting real tired of Marvel picking covers for the dustjacket that have big empty white spaces/backgrounds....I truly cant hate them enough. They just are not aesthetically pleasing to me in any manner...give me some complimentary color or clashing color to make these pop, give me a blackbackground...pick a cover that takes place somewhere instead of a white void. There are easily a dozen or more comic covers that would have been a superior choice or commission new art.... like Excalibur Volume 3 had like great options with beautiful covers of Issues #74, #75, #83, #94, #102...instead they picked #101...big bland white background void....ugh That solicitation picture of the DM with Red looked AMAZING....who at Marvel is makjng these choices, because they have zero artistic eyes n vision to me.....
The art. This is when things really started to go sideways for me as a read at the time. Something about the coloring really started to ruin the line work and ink for me.
I think it’s weird having a road to onslaught part 1 and part 2. When they split this in 2 they should have just renamed this book to Age of Apocalypse Aftermath. Better event and it doesnt limit the sales of part 2 to only the people who bought part 1.
This is where things start a steep decline that wouldn't be corrected until Grant Morrison's run. Every succeeding chunk from this point gets worse and worse. Don't get me wrong, I bought this day one and I'll keep reading it, when you're a completist you read it all.
I'm probably buying the dm cover because of rogue & gambit but I'm curious if the spine for the dm is the same & has wolverine too. For me personally this still isn't the point were X-Men was bad art & storyline wise despite not being as good as it was previously. Around 350 is were i started to notice the dip & apocalypse the twelve felt like rock bottom for me. Now to wait patiently for x-force vol 2, Excalibur vol 4, new mutants vol 4 & road to onslaught vol 2.
There reprinting the 3 tpb! Alpha, reign, omega! I suggest those if your waiting, im getting them lol who knows when the omni will be reprinted, but the 3tpb have more pages then the omnibus does, the 3 tpb have 1200 pages!
I prefer my Marvel Collection in Epics. But from Age of Apocalypse to Onslaught my X-Men will be in Omnibuses. I’m already looking forward to Volume Two.
This is the era when the wheels started to fall off on the post-Claremont X-Men. A plethora of subplots being introduced with no conclusion and an increase in unnecessary editorial interference. On the bright side, I started focusing on back issues which eventually evolved to me buying collected editions.
@@thiagodepaula6738 I agree. I never understood to love for Joe Mad. Sure, his designs for AOA and that space adventure were great, but the stories where the X-Men have to look like the X-Men…he didn’t do it for me there. I liked Andy Kubert’s art though.

That X-men swimsuit omnibus might not be a bad idea. 🧐
Thanks so much for the help with my collections🎉

Real missed opportunity not using UX #322 for one of the covers. I still remember picking that comic off a spinner rack.
The Italian version of this omnibus has that cover on the dust jacket. Joe Mad at his best
This is one of my favorite eras of X-men. I absolutely love this era. It may be nostalgia talking but this is peak x-men to me!
I have that comic book (cover) and the DM too so yes I will get this Omni. joe mad fan
What omnibus should I buy if night crawler is my favorite character? Is he even heavily involved in any of the,
Try Excalibur, he was a huge part of that series.
Excalibur 1-3, Uncanny 1-4, volume 5 has his mini series. Apocalypse the Twelve has him in there as well.
@@NearMintCondition thank you! Are there any deluxe/hardcover/collected editions beyond omnis you’d recommend where he’s the main (or big) focus?

Yeah. The TPB Road to Onslaught had 3 volumes, so they can cover in 2 Omnis easily
Has there been an image released of the spine to the dm?
I'm here for it.
Will the DM cover be a wraparound cover as well (with white background)?
Yup!
He said it was just white.

Is this double dipping with any of the Wolverine omnibuses?
Wolverine/Gambit: Victims #1-4 are in both this and Wolverine vol. 5. I believe that's it.
Did the cover change for X-men Onslaught aftermath omnibus? It doesn't look like Joe Mad is the DM cover anymore?
I wait for this omnibus a very long time, and I have pre-order for him. Now, only wait for delivery :)
I love Giant Robo OVA 1992 series
So happy I pre-ordered this one! I cannot wait to get it. Will there will be an aftermath omni in the future?
Dude, it's already been announced, comes out in June 😊
Thanks! @@fabstv3968
