      @@Dealcasters for sure! Just set up an SM7B with an iOStation 24C and the input level is unusably low, so I was looking at the CL-1 and saw this for the CL-X! Good timing. I may go the CL-X route, the extra gain will probably come in useful given the input levels of the 24C.

      @@bluemountain5254 Nice! The CL-X does have an additional approx 10db of clean gain - but as you can see and hear it has a bit of a different sound to it. What's crazy is I had the X set up with my Rodecaster Pro 2 for a video like this, and left it in the chain - not remembering I wanted to swap it back to the CL-1. I was getting a bunch of compliments on the vocal sound and was telling everyone it was the CL-1... woooops. Had to go back and tell them it was the X! Do you like the ioStation? That looks like a beast of an interface!

      @@Dealcasters yeah I think the CL-X is going to benefit a sung vocal, at least in my range, vs the CL-1, based on your demo. My only worry was that the gain levels are either 12 or 35; if 35 were too hot then 12 right not be enough, but the 35db setting sounded great! I'm psyched. The iOStation is super cool to use, I love the physical transport controls and the dedicated buttons and fader. It gives me more of a "mode change" when I start working in the DAW vs normal work on the computer so I'm not just mouse clicking all the time. The other benefit is the foot switch in, so you can punch in and out from across the room etc. My only gripe is that low input gain. If you're using a condenser, it's probably fine, but it's dismal with the SM7B! Can't wait for the CL-X to arrive.

    Cloud lifter z vs cloud lifter x
    Is you favorite

    • @Dealcasters
      @Dealcasters  2 месяца назад

      The Z is a completely different beast! Since the Z isn't something that we use a lot in podcasting (we try and get the true nature of the voice, not color it in any way) we haven't really found a way to incorporate it in our setups. We have used the X frequently, however and it sounds great with Heill mics as well as Shure.

    Subtle, but I do like the Cloudlifter X better than the CL-1. Rode makes the point that if you have the Rodecaster Pro II, you don't need a Cloudlifter, which is likely true from a pure numeric perspective. If you go with a Cloudlifter X, it means you prefer a bit a character instead of the characterless gain provided by the Rodecaster itself. I say buy the X. Thank you for the review, well done!

    Does length of xlr cable matter? I heard you need a shorter cable from mic to cloud lifter, and longer cable from cloud lifter to interface

    • @Dealcasters
      @Dealcasters  7 месяцев назад +1

      Excellent question Jason! 3ft v. 6ft cable will have no audible noise difference. Those are both very short cable lengths, and XLR cables are balanced, meaning they are designed to reject noise anyway. You could probably use two 50 foot cables and be fine! Thanks for watching and taking the time to ask your awesome question here!

      @@Dealcasters hey brother, I've been watching a lot of your videos regarding the cloudlifter, seems like you're the only channel that really focuses on that topic, plus you're definitely the only channel that I've found that has reviewed the cl-x. My cl-x is arriving today. I bought this because, I have to crank my gain at max on my scarlett solo 4th gen to get a decent signal from my rode podmic USB.
      I'm excited to see what difference it makes. If you had to give a rating on the cl-1 compared to cl-x on a scale of 1-10, what would your scores be?

    • @Dealcasters
      @Dealcasters  7 месяцев назад

      Awesome, thanks for that feedback@@JasonPierceOfficial ! The CL-1 and CL-X are different activators. Functionally, they do the same thing (they'll give your PodMic clean gain and it will sound immediately better because you won't have to crank your Scarlett's preamp). The CL-X is a different type of circuit that will color the overall sound of your mic a bit differently. It's the same circuit type that is used in those big Neve studio consoles. The CL-X responds differently when you hit it harder - for instance, many engineers will use it on drum cymbal microphones because they like the way it responds. I really like the way the CL-X sounds on different mics (I don't have a PodMic, however) over the CL-1 - but I prefer the CL-1 on my Shure SM7B. It's only a slight difference, and you do have the ability to adjust the amount of gain on the CL-X as well. Have fun testing it - and let us know how it goes! Thanks again!

    How would the CL X do with a beta 58 etc for live singing

    • @Dealcasters
      @Dealcasters  Год назад

      Heyyyy @FIREPIT BAND thanks for chiming in here on the channel! The Beta 58 sounds great with a CL-1 but we have not tested it with a CL-X. The B58 has higher gain, so you may want to dial things back on the board (and click the CL-X to the lower clean gain setting) to ensure you don't clip through your mixer or interface. Like mentioned here - the CL-X provides additional clean gain, and also the transformer does add a bit of a different color to voice. You may want to try the CL-1 at first, to see if that is what you'd like - or try both and return what you don't want. Good luck and I hope this helps you!

    It's a waste of money, because Klark Teknik CM-1 is of the same quality and costs three times less.

    • @Dealcasters
      @Dealcasters  Год назад +1

      Thanks for watching! For comparing the Klark Teknik CM-1 to the Cloudlifter CL-1, that opinion totally makes sense - but the Cloudlifter X is a different, transistor-based activator - so it has a different tonal character than both the CM-1 and CL-1 and gives even more clean gain. I'm interested in grabbing a CM-1 as well to test things out, and glad you like it. Do you use it for dynamic, ribbon or tube mics? Thanks again for watching and your feedback!
