Robert, I am not familiar with the STD castings. Stock Harley heads and cylinders do not need to be removed to install the Mallory distributor. We recommend a 3 ohm coil for best performance. The 5 ohm coils you have are recommended for points style ignitions only.

If you have S&S cylinders then... Then you need to remove them right?

Please indicate the reference point for the clock positions. Is it looking from the front or looking from the right side? Also, the photographs from the instruction sheets show the module 180 deg from this video. Please clarify. I am installing one on my 62 pan that is kick start only and need to get initial installation as close as possible.

Hey Myk, how did you go with that installation? I'm looking into putting one of these on my 62 Pan now, so would really like to hear your experience.

Steven Paydon I bench tested the unit and found that it only worked in reverse rotation. I bought the unit used and it did not come with the reverse circuit breaker drive gear. I have not found one yet so I have not tried the unit on the bike.

Do you not need a reverse drive gear for this electronic ignition? You do with other ignitions, and the gear on the bottom of the distributor is also reverse when they are sold with the electronic kits..

Is a reverse drive gear necessary? Second, can you you a Spyke distributor and obtain the same results?

I have a 1951 EL Pan and I need to replace the distributor.
i was told I would have to pull the heads but it seems thats not the case. So, If I go with this unit, will I have to pull the heads? Also...I'm running STD Dual plugged heads and had a drag Auto advance distributor w/ electronic ignition...I have two, double titted dyna 5 Ohm black coils. Would the coils be compatible with this unit? Thanks in advance..
