it's been 3 months ive been trying to work on the kick. i am only now feeling like it's passable. i honestly think i'll need another 3 months before I really pull it out in matches, though. the biggest difference are to do with the contact point and body rotation like you mention here. it still doesn't feel totally natural for me and i catch myself bringing the chest too much into the court like a flat/slice when im not totally focused.
I started today. Don’t give up. This was a helpful video. It takes a lot of time and reps to get the muscle memory locked in. My goal is a year from now to have a decent kick serve.
Here's a thought.. try referencing the kick serve toss to the ball of the back foot, so yes, as you said.. ball toward head because he needs to hit UP on the ball. Pros will release with a vertical arm and bring that forearm back, breaking the vertical plain ensuring that the weight is not transferred forward too early or too excessively, but UPWARDS more and staying side on is critical. Great tip with the Fed head. Another way of saying that is, look at the ball right through contact. So, consciously thinking of how to contain and time the weight shift is crucial.
He has not got a good kick, because the launch of the ball is not over the head and movement and pronation is like a first or side serve. He must work harder, he must have three good type of serves : Flat, Slice, Top spin.I think that is the kick the most weaker serve. 😅
Great lesson. I’ll incorporate this next time I practice serves.
Luke is a great player
Great session Pieter, will try this myself
Go for it!
