Throwing parts at a problem until its sorted is not really diagnosis and I never heard of anyone removing the plug caps for a Bmw. Aside from that any e30 video is always worth watching.
Just replaced plugs on a 1990 e34 today and for a good minute thought I had the wrong plugs. luckily I remembered after a brief break that the caps come off! saved me a trip to the store and its great you mention this in the video as well ha
I know Im kinda off topic but does anyone know of a good place to watch new movies online ?
@Maximilian Jon Flixportal
@Hugh Marc thank you, signed up and it seems to work :D I appreciate it !!
@Maximilian Jon You are welcome :D
best starter motor sound in history 😎
YAY! You guys are back!!! I hope all is going well. Good work on the E30, but next time, save yourself some time and TEST. You could have pinpointed the fuel pump as the problem by simply testing for fuel flow into a catch can while cranking. One other thing: any time an M20 engine (2.5 or 2.7) has been sitting for that long, you're taking a chance that the cam drive belt is still good. A $50 investment in a new belt and idler pulley BEFORE trying to crank it can save you hundreds in a head rework if the old belt breaks.
hornhospital I had no clue we could check the fuel pump like that. As for the belt, we bought one and anticipated changing prior to attempting to start the car. However, the combination of not having time and being slightly intimidated by the job caused us to take the risk without it. But we are still going to change it. We hope you are doing well! I will send you an email soon. Sorry for my lack in response.
We are glad to be back and will finally have time to be releasing consistent content!
How do I test the fuel pump as being the problem. Vehicle is a 1985 325e. It cranks but wont start.
put external 12v power and ground to the pump connection, if you don't hear a buzzing sound the pump is bad. Or turn the key on and try to hear the buzzing sound.
I installed a relay and now works fine
Nice to hear!!! Thanks for watching!
Good 4 you .nice video. That smile once It crank up..💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾😁👍🏽
Found your channel and subbed. Good stuff. I got a 91 318i. Changed out fuel pump for second time. First one was a used one. Used one worked but I bought a new one. New one worked but now car doesn't start. I checked and pump is pumping gas to fuel rail. I changed out injectors and still no start. I'm thinking the new pump was so powerful it broke the regulator. Going to pull everything off again tomorrow and check if pressure is getting to regulator. Thanks for video.
Oh is there a way to test if regulator is bad?
Any luck with this? I've got a '92 318i cab and it's got the same issue. No fuel pump noise and cranks but won't start
Trying to find a diagnostic plug cap for my 1987 BMW 325 automatic coupe
Hi guys. great video. I have the exact same problem with no start. I'm hoping you can point me in other directions? I stated with fuel relay by engine bay, cap n rotor, coil. Fuel filter, fuel pump (Was definitely not working) New Crankcase Sensor (2 to be exact). New DME (above the glove box) squirted fuel in the injector line. No ignition...
The engine was running a bit rough idle at a traffic light, then died and now will not start after the above parts change. Any suggestions?
Do you have spark?
@@UHOH3300 no sparks, no power to the fuel pump. Must be some master switch got tripped when fuel pump died.
Jonathan Pan check the main relay. It’s near the drivers side in a little plastic case. It’s usually the one towards the front
@@UHOH3300 the main reply next to the fuel pump relys?
@@panjonathan Yes. It's the lower one. Check that that relay is functioning properly. If it isn't, then the DME isn't energized and the car cannot start and will have no fuel and no spark.
Sweet video brother, you’re editing is looking on point man, keep it going!!
Baby WREX Thanks dude! I use the basic iMovie program on Mac. It gets the job done and is easy to use. 🍻 Cheers bro!
By the way. The thumbnail was created by RUclips. I was like, damn... not too bad. Haha
Just bought a 1990 735i and it was running but now I have a no crank no start problem.. can anyone give any advice to fix the problem?
Hi,
I have an 87 325e 2.7L that cranks but won’t start, any recommendations?
New spark plugs and cables, new fuel pump, new relays, new battery and alternator.
Thanks for watching. Hold the gas pedal down when you are cranking and let me know if it changes anything. Also, don’t forget to watch part 2 and part 3.
@@BimmerGarage feels like wants to start but…. Nothing
The e21 m10 spark plugs require the same. Found that out when the plugs came in after I freaked out about them not connecting to the distributor wires. Whoops
Haha. Good to know. We are about to swap ours on the e21 also. Thanks for watching. We have a lot of videos coming.
Hi, I have e30 325i and it starts fine but when maybe driving for a while and parking.
I then get back to the car then it doesn't crank or start even if you try and push start nothing.
Say after 30 minutes it would crank fine and start, please can u help
Sounds rich, hows your cat?
Great job
tarek farag Thank you for watching. We just started filming again and have a couple new videos coming soon.
thank you
Thank you for watching!
Hello, what changed him to get it going so fast?
Cristal Mattia The fuel pump. It was really easy to change but it made the difference.
Hi there I have a 90 325 with no spark my coil has 2 lives is this correct
Thank you for watching and reaching out. You are correct. I have provided a detailed description below for checking your coil from the net.
“two small Primary terminals, and a large Secondary terminal known as the King Post.
The first Primary terminal, +, is numbered 15 and gets its power directly from the ignition switch. This green wire goes from the switch, through a plug and socket clipped half way down the steering column, across behind the dash to a two pin socket above the glovebox, fitted with a plug with a loop, (where the immobiliser should have been connected), up through the duct behind the glovebox into the fusebox. It passes straight through the fusebox with no connections, out to the 20 pin C101 engine loom plug beside the fusebox, then into the engine loom and to a coil. Inside the loom there is a single branch to the ECU.
The second Primary terminal, - , is numbered 1 and goes to the main ECU inside the engine loom. There is a single branch to the diagnostic socket.
If you want to test your coil, follow these steps:
Disconnect all cables from the Coil
Using a multimeter, measure the resistance between the two Primary terminals. You should get a reading of 0.5 Ohms.
Now measure the resistance between terminal 15 and the King Post. You should get a reading of 5000 Ohms.
To test it is receiving power, ensure all cables are correctly attached, and then use a bulb to ensure you are getting 12V between earth and terminal 15.”
The King Post connects to the distributor via one large HT lead. To test the condition of this lead, measure its resistance. It should read 2000 Ohms.
What kinds of spark plugs are those?

I got a 1995 bmw the fuel go’s to the engine but engine don’t what to start need help
Thanks for watching. Have you checked the CPS? If not the CPS, maybe the ECU? Let me know a little more about your car. What have you tried? When you turn the key, what happens? Are you sure it’s getting fuel? Easy way to check is pull the hose from your fuel pressure regulator and see if fuel comes out. You can also pull out the FPR, just tug on it and it will pop out, fuel should pour out of it. If not. Order a used one.
Because that guy that had it before me he put the battery wrong
@@BimmerGarage but the engine cranks and I took the off the holes on the engine and when I put fuel in the engine it start for a bit and turns off
Bro. If he put the battery on wrong he fried your ECU. Don’t worry brother. Locate where the ECU is on your car and find a used one. Needs to be IDENTICAL. It should fire right up after that. Buy a used one that you can return in case it does not fix the issue, you can return. But I feel very confident that this will fix your issue given that the battery was on backwards. Keep us updated! Feel free to ask as much as you want.
mines starts but it wont hold, also did the adjustment on the throttle
You saw how to adjust the throttle in our Part 3 video right? See part 2 and 3. There is a video uploaded right before part 3. See if your car has the same symptoms as that video. Let me know.
Also, if you hold your foot on the gas pedal slightly, does it keep running or does it still die?
E30 fuel pumps only turn on when the engine is spinning.
max p makes sense why I’ve never been able to hear it. Thanks for the info and for watching!
@@BimmerGarage Yeah, when I bought my e30 it had a DME problem so in order to fix it I basically had to become an expert on Motronic 1.0-1.3. The DME will only energize the fuel pump if the following conditions are met: proper signal from crank position sensor from a spinning engine, proper grounding, and proper signal from ignition switch and neutral safety switch if equipped. Fuel pump is energized for approx 5 seconds and if the engine is still not firing it is switched off as a safety feature.
max p Hey there buddy. If you get a chance. Can you check out our most recent video? The e30 died again and we are stumped now. Could not find an air leak and it seems like it’s not getting fuel. Put in a new fuel pump again and also a fuel pressure regulator, still with no luck.
correct
I got a problem my engine gets fuel but don’t state
Also, have you tried to spray starter fluid into the intake while turning the key? If that does not work... CPS or ECU I’m thinking.
Change everything 😂 still won’t start, k u help 👋
Alphonso thank you for watching and sorry that the solutions provided did not work for your e30. Perhaps you should look into spraying engine starter spray into the take boot and see if that helps. Try to add a good amount of gas as well.
Check if there is spark and also if fuel pump is running when u swing it might be cps
Part# for fpr
If I can't drive my e30 in heaven then fuck the afterlife.. or hell. I'll take hell if I can drive my baby.
😂 Same!
Clean that engine bay brother, poor thing looks like its never been cleaned 😭
You are indeed correct. I do not think it truly has ever been cleaned. I recently gave it a slight touch up, but you are right and gave me some motivation. Degreaser and armor all time! Thanks for watching!
Replacing crap is not troubleshooting.
True. We are working on another e30 vid and I think it is perfect timing for a troubleshooting vid which would help direct viewers to specific problems so they are not just replacing to replace. Thanks for watching and commenting.
