    Thanks for the video. It helped me decide on the Woodland Mills WC88.
    We keep a brush area in the back woods for debris, but over the years it has gotten large enough to qualify for it's own zip code. Also it's composting - and after we had a fire start along the edge of our woods a few years back from nothing but natural deadfall, weeds and leaf litter self-combusting - I think chipping is safer. That big pile in the woods is composted in the center, but adding more every year just warms it up again.
    Thanks again.

      Awesome! I love this machine. I have a review video coming up for the chipper. I'm mostly done recording everything. Did you order yours yet?

      @@DuckRiverHomestead Called yesterday and need to hold off a bit because if they shipped now it would be here about a week and a half before I return from some travel. So aiming for the first week of August.
      I bought a grapple from EA when I got the new Kioti rx7320 three years ago. The two of them are beasts when combined. Also makes a lot of work for that chipper when it shows up.
      Thanks for the vids. Subb'd.

    I have a WC68 and absolutely love it! It's a blast to use. To me it's so much quicker and safer than a big burn pile and you can use the wood chips for mulch.

    • @DuckRiverHomestead

      I love being able to use all the wood chips for gardening and creating paths. It's amazing. Also big fires scare me and I'd rather have the wood chips.

    I use a bush hog to annihilate most of the brush and the rest can be chipped easily.

    Juat purchased my wc68. I had the same issues with brush piles accumulating. These seem to be just what the doctored ordered for small lander owners who dont want to take a mortgage out to get a decent wood chipper.

      Right. I don't want to spend 50k on a tow behind. The capacity on this thing is great.

    I don't think you'll regret the chipper. I've got one of the small 5hp ones from a big box store (2nd hand) and one that fits on my 11hp Grillo walk-behind tractor. Part of me would love to have one this big. For my trees, like you, if they are straight and large enough, the goal is the mill, then I go down to firewood, mushroom logs, and chipping. At some point, I hope to get some 35 and 55gal barrels and start making charcoal as well.
    Although at the moment, pretty much EVERYTHING is on indefinite hold, as I have to live with my parents to care for them, maybe months, maybe years.. kinda depressing actually.

    • @DuckRiverHomestead
      @DuckRiverHomestead  2 года назад

      I do want to make charcoal at some point, but I need mulch first. And I love the idea of mushroom logs, but that's outside of my scope right now.
      I hope you enjoy this time with your parents. Your previous life in hospice will lend well to taking care of them in this stage of their life. It's not easy by any means, but I'm glad you have the opportunity to do so. My mother is going to be moving close by in the next few months and I don't know if she has decades or years left. She could live to 100, but we never know. I'm just glad I get to be close to her. Is there any chance that you can move them to your property?

    Man if I had unlimited funds I would definitely add a wood chipper like this to my implement arsenal along with a stump grinder. Unfortunately I'm poor.

    • @DuckRiverHomestead
      @DuckRiverHomestead  2 года назад

      I would also like the stump grinder. I would however recommend the stump bucket. It’s a life saver.

    I've been looking for something too. Been going back and forth on whether to get a PTO powered chipper or a much cheaper one with a dedicated motor. We have a lot of trees fall and I hate burning the piles. I've never had a fire get out, but they get out all around us. So I prefer to avoid the burn.

    • @DuckRiverHomestead
      @DuckRiverHomestead  Год назад +1

      Yes, the burn pile scares me a bit. I did one once and I was running around for the first hour shoveling everything into the designated area. I'll try to just burn roots from now on.
      The only thing I don't like about PTO driven implements like this is that I can't really use my tractor while I'm working it. I have to stop, move some stuff around, then get going again. Not really a big issue if I'm working by myself, but if I have a few people along with me, it slows everything down. But dang I love this machine. I'll do an update video on it at some point.

    • @thehammah8444
      @thehammah8444 11 месяцев назад

      If you have a tractor, the PTO makes sense IMO over a smaller unit with gas motor.... it's one less motor to worry about. @homestead_diy@@DuckRiverHomestead

    • @DuckRiverHomestead
      @DuckRiverHomestead  11 месяцев назад

      @@thehammah8444 the only problem is that it only works when connected to the tractor. But we’re talking about 6” logs here. A cheaper gas powered one wouldn’t be able to chip something that large.

    you have your work cut out for you with those piles, should have a decent amount of mulch before you know.
