If I'm not mistaken that kill is the only one that Kratos sought out in the game, all the others is he defending himself and Atreus. Killing that troll is not who he is anymore. It was a sign of respect and an apology for it's faith. That's how I took it anyway.

For anyone that didn’t know. DO NOT SKIP THE CUTSCENE, it creates a check point making it so that you can’t get the chaos flame. I know because it happened to me. All you need to to is load the save from before you killed the bridge keeper.
If it's not working thats because you let mimir finish his dialogue. As soon as the cutscene is over you have to go get the flame and reload the checkpoint.
I just did this an hour ago and it worked like a charm. It stripped me after I got four though, but that was all I needed. Now if I could have cheated early on to fully upgrade my axe I'd be set.
31.08.2021 Still works. Advice: If you are not fast enough, you can go manual to load game, second Qsave. Every time you enter in last phase of fight it will make a Qsave and the next save it.s right after you loot item.

I figured a way around this. If you reload from checkpoint, it loads right from defeating the creature. Instead, I pressed start, load from, and chose the previous load file titled, DEFEAT THE BRIDGE KEEPER..so, load the 1 file before under the saves. This will load exactly what is shown in the video : )
January 23, 2019 it still works. Also, it's fine to let mimir finish talking, just reload the auto save prior to the newest one and then check your resources. You'll still have the chaos flame you picked up and the boss will still be at minimum health so you can R3 him again. Oh, and have a good amount of exp prior so you can purchase some or all the skills at once.
Just an update this still works I used it. Like some had said you need to collect the flame before the final dialog is spoken and then to restart to last check point but you can go to the check point where you almost kill the keeper you don't have to re do the whole fight

November of 2021 - This method works without issue. Just be sure to reload the checkpoint before Mimir finishes "we should focus on getting back to your son".
As of March 2020, this still works, but only up to 4 chaos flame, the fifth time you pick up, nothing shows on screen and it won’t registered at all, (tried it 3 different times) anyway you only need 4 to max it out so it’s all good, just make sure you restart from checkpoint before Mimir finished talking and you will be good.

Working as of 13 June 2019. Just don’t let Mimir finish his dialogue, and if he does, go to settings, load, and select one of the earlier auto saves. It still keeps your chaos flames.
i really liked how in this game, Kratos was as ruthless as he ever was, but he only did what he had to do. Him honoring the fallen foe after a good fight was a powerful sign of this. In previous games, he was ruthless because he was filled with rage and a thirst for revenge. Kratos with a squeeky voice is the funniest shit ever, btw

I realised when playing this part that the gatekeeper can't stop anyone from entering hel. His job his to make sure only dead crosses the bridge but when spotting a living creature he tries to kill it, this making you eligible for hel.
So what happens with the other chaos flames you get as the story goes on? Or you just don't get them anymore? And can you get more than 4 and not break the game?
I can also confirm this. On PC version (Steam for myself): pick up the flame, pause, navigate to Load, then select your second most recent Autosave titled "Defeat the Bridge Keeper." You should get reset back to the boss being one hit away from his execute move, as he does his final slam combo at the front of the arena. Just make sure you check your resources after you reload this checkpoint just to confirm you have the previous flame in your inventory.
The new god of war upgrade was confusing, I liked the old one, where you had to get enough red orbs to upgrade your weapon or magic to the next level, just plain and simple
Its not really that confusing theres only 4 steps to upgrade it 1. Kill specific enemy or ( Find it in the fog realm ) 2. Take or craft *Chaos Flame* 3. Go to Huldra shop 4. Upgrade *Blades Of Chaos*

Still works March 15th, 2019. You just need to press all the buttons right after picking up the flame. If you failed you can still load from that point so just keep trying.

The chaos flame needs to be crafted at brok and sindri's shop with an item you get in musphelheim. The same with frozen flame but you go to niflheim.

This still works as of December 2022 on PC. PSA: you can only carry 4 chaos flames max, the blades can only be upgraded 5 tiers.
