  • For me, Autism is a 'fruit salad' and that fruit salad and the personality package it comes in differs from person to person. I was diagnosed with autism at age 2 (called childhood psychosis then in 1965) and gained functional speech by late childhood. My childhood diagnosis was reconfirmed in my late 20s as autism. In between I was diagnosed with language processing disorder and spent my life with gut, immune, metabolic disorders, agnosias, Exposure Anxiety. Though my own fruit salad has been extremely challenging, it has helped shape me into many things I really value - resilient, adaptable, empathic, grateful, joyous, determined, autonomous, creative. I do not confuse my personality with my autism but can see how autism was one of the major influences throughout my life that interacted with and helped shape some of my personality. I hope you enjoy the video.
