We use to go there after Saturday evening church in the 70's ;; the mall was always packed and we had trouble finding parking spaces ; I remember buying 6x9 speakers in the Sear automotive store for my 1974 Ford maverick
Wallie your videos are awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep up the great work!!! It is so sad about Kmart and Sears though. Soon they will join Ames, Hills and Toys R Us just in our memories.
Lots of fixtures. That looks like a decent size store. Sears Optical & Sears Portrait Studio - now things of the past. Our Sears, in the River Valley Mall, closed close to this time last year. Another anchor gone. Elder-Beerman’s is next (end of August). Not good. 😕 You looked very comfy on that couch! 😉. Glad to see you having fun!
Richard Dremden Wolf Apparently this mall was ranked as "the healthiest mall in America". They probably wanted higher rent from Sears. Since Sears is financially in trouble, they couldn't afford to pay it. Strange Simon would get cocky about it's ranking in that though, Sears is unlikely to be replaced by anything in today's climate. The one possibility, Boscovs, already failed here. The surrounding area has 4 grocery stores, Home Depot, Kohls, and Office Depot, and there's already Dick's Sporting Goods, Target, and a movie theater at the mall. While they may be able to get a car body shop or an oil exchange to replace the auto center, Sears will not be replaced by anything that isn't Big Lots since virtually everything is already there, and I think if Big Lots would be to attempt to go into this area they'd go for the former Toys R Us that's by the Kohl's and Home Depot because they wouldn't want to pay South Hills Village prices.
Some of them things some day might be worth money after sears becomes a thing of the past. I would think things with a Kenmore label like electronics. You had the room to store them for about 30 years. I like you're videos. I love vintage stores. Thanks for filming it.
Infact I wish the south hills village mall Sears where I lived wouldn’t close I’m pretty sure the elevator in Sears got decommissioned I wish I should’ve filmed but I was too late this sucks 😞
Reminds me of Dead Midway mall Sears near me.Closed @ same time as ours did too.🆑Done by September, only 1 anchor store left @ Midway Pennys.Already see you tube videos of our dead mall sad.😢
You should see the Metrocenter store in Phoenix. They reopened the basement for their fixtire sale. It's all fixtures down there. Saw a family loading up a truck with their clothing rack haul last Saturday.
This is kind of sad. I no longer live in PGH, but I used to come here as a young kid and I have some fond memories of entering the mall through the entrance around 6:21 and walking through Sears to get to the rest of the mall. Those red and green rubber mats they had under the larger furniture and appliances... The way to tiles looked... The smell the store had... Gives me a weird sense of nostalgia in a way.
I lived not too far from this mall when i lived in Pittsburgh 2 yrs ago.....I'm surprised anything is closing in The South Hills village.....It's a very nice mall and far from being a dead mall....
Another awesome video and my favorite dead mall filmers like you and Anthony add little humorous touches to it. Glad to see you back filming because I sense that's one of the things that makes you happy. Sad to see this Sears go. Simon Malls is the Eddie Lambert of property owners. All these malls are dark and sterile and have the same 100 stores and really no personality.. I've seen Simon kick Sears out of other malls wanting more hip, meh stores like Zara and Primark and in Paramus a Stu Leonards overpriced yuppie grocery store. They run my local mall which has zero personality. I only go there for Chick Fil A and $5 movies at the AMC theatre on Tuesdays. Keep the videos coming Wallie. You and your fellow Dead Mall documentarians are a high light of me week along with YAY CATS!
There is 3 sears near me 1 is closing sept 2 other 2 in business after Hattiesburg ms sears closes then they will be one in meterie and one in Hammond both in Louisiana I live in Mississippi so about an hr away from my sears
hi wallie its james the auto center closed at the end of june the kmart in pleasant hills is on the list now to close no official date yet but I been going to that kmart since I was little now that kmart burnt to the ground in 2001 and was rebuilt there was a restaurant in the middle of the store wich is gone now little ceasrs is in front of the rebuilt kmart now my one coworker works there
In the small town where I live, a lot of people bought stuff from Sears, as there was always lots of stuff there waiting to be picked up by people who ordered them! Sears really screwed up somewhere, as there are a lot of small towns like mine that ordered a lot of stuff from them, put thousands out of work as well!
Nice video! One thing that really drives me nuts about Sears and Kmarts is some stores have a much newer logo while some have the old and some like this one used the old logo on baskets while a different sears logo on the store. A logo is really important in brand recognition but just like how they dont have anything really differentiating themselves from their competition they're really all over the place and dont know who they are as brands.
Sears is doing well in florida like pretty darn well for a sears but kmart here not at all we got 20 sears locations open + the autocenters and the discount stores
Retail Fall What area of Florida? I live in Sarasota, Fl. The Sears store in Sarasota Square Mall closed at the beginning of 2017. We also lost K mart before that.
WOW This Sears opened in 1964 and the South Hills Village Mall opened in 1964. I checked into this and I found out that this Sears is the ONLY store remaining that was original from the opening of the Mall. History.
Kind of weird how there are stairs to the services area. That is vintage. Yeah, if Sears wasn't generating enough traffic, I don't think I would want them in my mall either. Don't get me wrong, it is a shame that Sears is continuing to close stores. Wallie, you are right. Eddie Fartfurt (Manny quote) doesn't care about his company. It went down as soon as he became CEO. I can count on one hand how many Chicago area stores are left after this round of closures. Too bad. Take care. I hope you find that washer and dryer.
How is your house doing now. How you didn't have a lot of damage. Thanks for the videos. Shared so people where I used to live can get a deal on something they may need. Love your videos sir. Thumbs up to you.
The only Sears that’s still gonna be open is willow grove mall and the Florida mall I know for a fact that the one at triangle town center closed in 2021 In October
I don't know. South Hills Village used to have a Boscov's. Target and Dick's Sporting Goods occupy that space now. I'm actually really surprised to hear that Simon shut these two down. SHV Sears had way more stuff than Washington, PA, but I really want it to stay. I don't know if Washington Crown Center can handle losing another anchor. They've already lost Macy's, Bon-Ton, and Gander Mountain, though Gander was replaced by Rural King. Wallie, you must have visited a couple weeks ago. I was there Monday and the tools/lawn and garden had half the stuff than what you see in the video (though the shed is still there). If you get a chance, you might want to swing by the Kmart on Route 19 in McMurray/Canonsburg area (about 10 miles south of the Village). There's been no official announcement, but everyone's talking about that one closing soon.
A Sears in my area is closing soon, and they are having sales (like any other closing store) but I'm excited because they do have good clothes I want to buy. But also kind of sad as I love Sears. But, things happen.
South Hills Village could put a casino in the Sears space to take some pressure off the Meadows. In fact, if they would have converted Century III into a casino things would be a lot different in West Mifflin. PUT CASINOS EVERYWHERE. Amazon can't touch this.
Seems like Sears Auto Centers usually close within the first couple weeks of liquidation sales beginning but I could be wrong I suppose. Also was surprised a mall would want an anchor tenant out but it is Sears so I get it, If it were any other store like JCPenney or Dillard's then I'd be confused.
on the plus side, the Mall itself seemed pretty busy. I hope that means this Sears space is in demand. I read that they're redeveloping the Ross Park Mall Sears.
Update the former sears store at south hills village mall is gonna be a new department store called Von Maur the construction will start in the fall of 2022 and it’s gonna open in 2024
I used to work at this location in 2016. Forget the name of the position (Backroom Associate maybe?) but it involved those SNC handhelds. We used to call them "Snicks" lol. In short, I wasn't very good at all that physical labor, and the guy leading the room hinted at the idea that he was going to slide my work hours on a new hire that he felt was doing better than me if I didn't shape up. (He also took issue with me doing stuff as simple as using the bloody restroom...in my experience if employers have issue with that that's your first sign to get the hell out of there.) I didn't get fired for what it's worth; I ended up getting another gig elsewhere at full time. Curiously enough they responded by tearing me off their schedule entirely during my 2weekNotice period. Guess that chap made good on his warning, lol. Still now that they're closed I guess that doesn't matter anymore.
K lee whenever someone tells me that JCP is an anchor in their mall and there are fewer than 2 other anchors, I get worried. JCP isn't doing too well these days either. I mean MY mall is anchored by JCP, Dick's and Burlington, but the Bon Ton is in its own standalone building in another part of town and Dick's said they were leaving to move there. My mall is done for and it sounds like it's in better shape than yours.
Ashley Sayers Yes even though the target is attached to the mall, it's not going to stay open for one anchor, someone told me they put a Sephora in JCPenney to save it, but that's going to hurt it in my opinion.
WISH AMAZON GO AND COSTCO WOULD CONVERT THEM INTO PACES THAT WOULD GIVEWORK TO PEOPLE SOME OF THOSE K-MARTS SPOTLESS HAVE FRENDS NATE MANNY ACE AND EVEN DAN BELL LEAD WAY ON THIS WALLE B DOING GOOD WORK!
There will always be sears and kmart store in heaven and they won't be tiered depressing stores even tho I don't think sears and kmart store are tiered and depressing right now here on earth
well we knew the end was here when sears dropped electronics and then dropping even selling a certain appliance brand. also when they got their hands on k-mart it was bad too so yea its all sad stuff.
Midwest Retail bro please do, I will film the one in Des Moines since I will be living close to the mall it's in, and thank you for all the support lately
Simon Malls is absolutely terrible!! They manage Southridge Mall here and I will not go there!! Barry Lee at a bunch of malls Sears actually owns the land the stores sit on, and they are redeveloping the land themselves. Sears is now more of a real estate investment company than a retail company
Lived about 10 min. from this store, shopped there in the 60s and 70s till I moved to Fla. That Mall was huge for its time I think it had 99 stores.
Funny the whole family came out to see the sears closing sale happen you looked super relaxed on that couch. Great video as always. Thanks
I just subbed this is one of the best abandoned channels on RUclips, keep up the awesome work!
Happy to see you back sorry to hear about the flood hope all are ok

*The outside of that Sears looks so OLD! Never would have guessed that the mall wanted them out, especially with the way malls are going these days.*
Richard Dremden Wolf Apparently this mall was ranked as "the healthiest mall in America". They probably wanted higher rent from Sears. That part where Wallie runs out of the shed was hilarious lol!!! XD

Damn! Sears is such a depressing place to go regardless of whether or not a specific store is liquidating. Great video!!
I LOVE SEARS
I do too
Infact I wish the south hills village mall Sears where I lived wouldn’t close I’m pretty sure the elevator in Sears got decommissioned I wish I should’ve filmed but I was too late this sucks 😞
Around Fremont Ohio there's an abandoned Kmart. I noticed it as I was going back home and thought I should give you a heads-up about it!
This is why notifications are key for kmartnation
Ha! Thanks wallie for the heart appreciate it bro

Our Sears has been gone for awhile, never really cared to shop there. Still sad that they are closing.. lol you crack me up young one! 😂
I shop at this Sears too. Did some research, Simon Malls are not renewing any Sears' leases at any of their malls in the United States.
Great video and tour. Sears, what a shame !!!

The Sears in Rapid City, SD is in a Simon Mall, and it was closed.
Seems like more and more places are going under wow
ALSO, KMart in McMurray is now closing as well - signs went up just the other day.

Wow cool
