Just saw Brad Marchand get called for shooting the puck over the glass in the offensive zone. Apparently the league is indeed, as the confused bruins' announcers put it, "legislating intent" now haha. Perhaps it's best to fire a "shot" in the direction of the net, (that just happens to go over the glass) if they'd like to make that play from now on 😉
Classic consistency from the NHL. Saw this exact play last year in an Coyotes game and there was no call, and offensive zone faceoff for I believe the blues who did it. Now it’s a penalty? Maybe they decided to take a look at it those over the summer
@@KellerClay-f6v Lol right? Apparently they did. I feel this could be a slippery slope. As like I said, who's to say what "just missed the glass" for a dump in. Marchand should have argued that, instead of implying his guilt and saying "that's not the rule" (Because that is the rule) haha... Perhaps if it wasn't as egregiously obvious as the Marchand play? But still. I'd rather they just make it automatic, instead of leaving room for ambiguity or referee discretion. Eventually I'll put out a video on "rules I would change", and since I don't want to see this play taken advantage of regardless, because it's too easy. That will be one of them. Like I mentioned, just rip a high shot over the net. Then what? I suppose they should just make any puck over glass plays (that weren't deflections) an automatic delay of game penalty.
Yeah. Maybe they saw your video and took it to heart lol. The last thing we need is more plays that are sometimes called and others not. As exploitive as these plays are, I wish they would clamp down on crosschecking instead 🙄 looking forward to the rule changes video!!!!
My favourite hockey channel period. And it’s not even close. The writing, editing, and visuals are one thing. But the unique perspectives are another. I love actually coming away with something new instead of wasting time listening to someone pointlessly stretch out obvious things all dramatically. So happy I found your channel.
Thank you! I appreciate it. Totally agree on the time wasting/clickbait channels. I also can't stand drama where there is none, or rehashed filler.. That, and I've seen so much "When the obvious thing is obvious", "the NHL has a problem that's not a problem", "this is INSANE for the NHL".. That I don't even contemplate clicking most hockey videos anymore. I tune in for some of THG's opinion pieces, and that's about it for me on hockey youtube these days.
@@District5-YT If you haven't already, you should checkout Hockey Psychology. His titles are a bit clickbaity but you know you are in for quality content with those videos.
Yes I am including “hockey psychology”. When that channel isn’t plagiarizing Jack Han’s hockey tactics without shame. It’s desperate, clickbaiting, basic stuff that adds nothing to old news. I assume most of the audience is new fans or children.
In the 2000s passing the puck to the opponent for more time 5 on 3 was extremely common. That's the era Mackinnon grew up watching, so I'm not surprised he still does it
I think the main reason the Injury Reserve loophole doesn't get exploited more is because not many NHL players are willing to be the guy to sit out, or "get injured". For better or worse hockey players tend to be a bit 'intense' and often play through injuries instead of sitting out even when they absolutely should simply because that's what hockey players do. So even bringing up the idea that they should sit out on purpose to exploit a loophole would certainly go poorly in most cases... Most cases.
Great video. Appreciate the consistency and creativity of your channel. Really awesome that you put this amount of effort into covering the Ducks of all teams. Hope you're having a good day boss. Always looking forward to a new District 5 video in my feed.
4:50 Actually that happened in Rugby Union It's dubbed Bloodgate and the English rugby team Harlequins did it to get tactical substitutions in the form of Blood replacements. This happens when a player gets a cut that draws blood profusely or deep enough that warrants medical attention. The team are allowed a special substitution method called a blood replacement in which the player is withdrawn from the game and able to get the wound fixed. The team is then allowed to bring them back on at any time if they received treatment that stopped the bleeding. Harlequins abused this by having their players fake blood injuries to use it as tactical subs. Famously it was outed when one player Tom Williams faked an injury and was caught on camera consuming a blood capsule and winking as he was subbed off.
Wow, never heard of that! The investigation that followed must have been fascinating. "4 previous occasions" as well. That was quite the list of resignations and suspensions. Deserves some sort of documentary (if there isn't already one?) .. Thanks for mentioning this!
I would like to know whether there are more goals in 6v5 than in 5v4 Of course calculated on the same timeframe since 5v4 minutes sure are plenty Delaying the penalty I also sometimes don't really see as handy
My dads buddy used to play in a beer league about 5 years back and he could cut himself before every game while shaving that way if he got a high stick he could just open up the cut and get the double minor. Kinda genuins tbh
I actually knew about the last fact because of playing NHL 24. It's just hard to do since you typically can't actually aim the puck to go over the glass and the best you can do is shoot at the goalie and hope for a lucky deflection.
@District5-YT I mainly play franchise mode and be a pro, but BAP hasn't changed in like five years and there's a lot of mistakes everywhere. I don't bother with HUT since it's so microtransaction heavy.
I really dislike Tampa Bay and Vegas for this cap maneuvering! The Hawks are also a team I remember doing this quite often. This and the tax benefits states like Nevada and Florida receive over Canadian high tax markets.
The blood thing is so absurd even disregarding the possibility of biting your lip or blood capsules. Why should a hit to the lip warrant a full two minutes more than one to the cheek or forehead? Some people just bleed more easily than others, why should they draw more penalties?
Goalies who flip their helmet off to get a whistle after one of the back buckles comes loose. The helmet will still protect your head pretty well. I'd argue it's more dangerous for them to flip the helmet off mid play than to play with an 80% effective helmet for another minute or so.
The mask absolutely does not protect very well without both buckles on. It becomes loose enough that any shot to the face will smash the cage into your mouth or other vulnerable area on your head

I immediately came back to this video after seeing the call. Made me laugh to see it enforced within the week this was uploaded

yeah cause most teams and player actually have integrity
This guy should have way more than 10k subs
Totally agree :’(

Glad I’m one of the few that found this channel. Such a breath of fresh air. Haven’t heard things put so cleanly since Don Cherry.
in rugby blood capsules have been used to get additional substitutions at least a couple times
10k subs any minute now! Congratulations on the big milestone!
Congratulations D5! We❤u!
Thank you!! 🙏
@@NancyBeckas Thank you!! 😊
if you are 'injured' and you walk down the tunnel, you can walk right back out as soon as the player is ejected. cough cough florida panthers.
i’ve always wondered if teams would ever try to have purposely chapped lips to get those double minor penalties
So I just subbed and I refreshed and it went from 9.99k to 10k.
I have never been so honoured.
But seriously man, good job!
Thank you for the support and the kind words! 🙏 Really appreciate it!
jombroton shot great idea!
Excellent Video

My bet is 5x4 because you have more space. But 6x5 has its pros. Last minutes, different kind of effort, tired defence and goalie...

Nice! How are the NHL games these days in general? I haven't played any since NHL 15.

If a team ever did the fake blood they would never be able to cut or trade any players 😂😂😂
Someone said this list to Sabres Brass lol.
10:35
marchand got called for it 10/10/24
bruins vs canadiens.
luv u
3:27 I’m pretty sure a high stick that caused a broken cheek bone would get a little bit more than 4 minutes.
You'd be wrong. That wasn't even 2 minutes. There was no call.

If you're not exploiting rules and "cheating" a little bit, you dont really wanna win
