- The long-dormant Top Spin franchise is back with TopSpin 2K25 with a more modern approach to the amount of content the game features. Much like other 2K Sports offerings, TopSpin 2K25 offers a varied roster, as well as an excellent career mode that is filled to the brim with interesting content and a light RPG system that lets you improve your custom tennis player on their way to stardom.
While playing TopSpin 2K25 is quite a bit of fun, the game still offers a fair bit of frustration with some of its more complex mechanics. Despite a fantastic tutorial mode, the game’s control scheme makes it frustrating to pick between precision and power shots, and at higher difficulties, your athletes might even just give up on a shot that they could have easily made. These frustrations do little to take away from just how much fun playing TopSpin 2K25 can be, however.

Man, I miss Virtua Tennis.
Never could get into Top Spin in the past (but to be fair, I only tried the first 2, maybe the 3rd one as well).
I kind of want to give this a shot, but I really dislike 2K as a company. Way too many ads and predatory practices.

You are right. Tested game on PS5 and you are forced to create a 2K account to play!
Else the game is ugly, unfinished and pricey.
Then get a XBOX 360 amd get Top Spin 4,it's essentiallysame game. game.
Played online last nighr had a blast with it. Smooth gameplay and animations.
buy tennis elbow 4 or tennis elbow manger 2 if ur on pc, much better
I'll wait until it goes on sale or game pass. Take two is trying to take over sport games but can't fix nba2k or make VC prices cheaper

You can download an emulator and the copy of TS4 for free. Please don't support this pastejob from scummy orgs like 2k.
its hilarious. its like fisher price deciding they're gonna make Porsches. The 2k demographic is the bottom of the intellectual barrel. It needs saying.
So, I deactivated all the bars and visual indicators. And then, you no longer concentrate on a gauge bar, you just look at the ball, your player and when to hit it like on a real court... it's 100x more enjoyable. Your timings are less good at first, but little by little everything becomes more logical and fluid, you hit the ball better and better while having more fun. Online, there should be a mode where all visual aids are deactivated, to have real tennis game, with human imperfections.

I did this but still you can’t for eg hit the ball directly into a corner. It’s all very ‘scripted’. The rally’s all the same. Really awful game I am so disappointed. Best I’ve played was actually would you believe - Gameboy top ranking tennis.

Also, do you mean it's scripted in the sense of not having enough control over your player and how fast they react? Because 2k does that (along with other mechanics that meddle with your fluidity) with their basketball games already I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case here
@@yegfuf yes exactly. And the game I mentioned is exactly that. ‘Top ranking tennis’ for the GB but play it on GB advance SP. You get nothing in graphics but ever bit of control and game play best mechanics than anything modern. I still play mine haha.
I think it would be great if they added a "download players" option to this game. That way, we could download players created by the community. Playing a tennis game without the full roster is like playing a football game without Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar, etc. The roster definitely needs to be improved.
I remember buying Virta Tennis 3. It's literally one of the best tennis games I've ever played behind Sega Tennis All-Stars!
I bought it and I wasted 74 EUR - a colossal disappointment to me. For a casual match using exhibition is kind of ok, but my Carrer is simply abysmal. The player improvements are so slow that you have to play countless frustrating matches with a player who runs like a 60years old out of practice and sends 90% of shots right towards the opponent with negligible aim. Plus, compared to Top Spin 4, you also have the stroke of genius, the energy meter, which basically force you to skip one tournament every two months. Why is that ? well obviously so that you hurry to the game store and buy their player improvement packets, ranging from 4.99 to 99 EUR. 2K is really getting shameless in ripping their clients.
Control wise it is quite identical to Top Spin 4, with the very same defects: timing is way too important, it gets precedence over everything else, including tactics; volleying is a joke, to get a winning volley you have to hit the button before the opponent has even started to hit the ball. And matches seems rigged: the opponents play dumb for some time and let you win some points, then all of a sudden they start playing with incredible speed and hitting angles that are forbidden to you as a player.
Compared to Top Spin 4, Top Spin 2k25 is also heavily dependant on 2k servers; if the servers are off-line, you are left with just exhibition - even a local my carrier requires 2k server. That means when 2k will pull the plug on the servers, this game will be useless.
This is the last 2k games I buy, I really had enough.
As someone who played the recent tennis games AO Tennis and World Tour.. And still having to plug my ps3 in to play Top spin 4 because it was superior to both those titles, this is very much welcome👍

@@mpa1931 Djokovic himself doesn't support videogames and Nadal had some trouble with sponsors even though he's not against the idea. Djokovic is the GOAT for me but seeing how conservative he is turns me off.

6:48 don't get me wrong Topspin2k25 is probably the best tennis game out there, but you can't just mention the biggest flaw of the game and somehow turn it into a positive thing. The roster? Seriously?😂😂😂

I bought the game and I really like it! It’s not perfect in ambience as NBA2K, but it’s very fun! The only big issue to me are the grunts. They are generic and shared among players. Which means, you will hear Badosa grunting the same way Swiatek does. Attention to details was the only drawback I saw so far

Moment-to-moment gameplay on the court is still better than any other tennis game, I agree. The career mode needs a massive update though to be more like real world tennis and not the silly 1 tournament per month system that they just copy-pasted from Topspin 4. They have all of the licenses to the Masters 1000 tournaments and the Slams. They need to put them to better use.
Gameplay is excellent I have taken off all the energy bars and where the ball is going to land etc to make it more realistic yes more difficult but still great fun the graphics are good well featured looking tennis stadiums, arenas character models could be better , but not the worst I have seen in a game, sounds are excellent, yes my career mode could be better but not worse career mode in sport games , overall I am loving the new top spin game

@@gerry54 no no, when I played the older version looking at one TV screen my player and my buddies player took turns being on top of the screen on the changeover. This version doesn’t do this

The game looks fun. But its a bit of a stretch to say Top Spin is a tennis sim. Will stick with TS4 on 360 for now. Doesnt seem much advance in gameplay.

Bought the game... No community creations and a lot of meter watching. They been raving about this game but honestly I don't see how it much better than AO 2. Waiting for Tiebreak. Hope it's good

I agree. Still never seen a good tennis sim where you have full control of the ball movement and everything. They’re always like this. Clunky and for eg in this one cannot hit a ball into the very corner. It bends in towards to player. Rubbish.
The graffics and likeness of the players were better on the 360 grand slam tennis 2 game

Groundstroke mechanics and animations are so unrealistic, and so are the ball physics
Watch the Madrid Open (Masters 1000 event) that's currently going on IRL, and then watch this. They're entirely different things. This game doesn't even look like tennis, it looks like pickleball if anything

they're amazing but are PC only, and very sim. Not casual friendly. Fun if you you're willing to learn it properly.

We all should request to 2k to make career and tournaments offline! Since they will shut down the servers on 2026!! I got the grand slam edition which costs a lot of money... great game and it would be a pitty that in 2 years it will become unplayable😢
This game is so fun. I'm spending much of my time in the tennis academy and currently want to strangle John McEnroe (or at least his voice), who is the tutor. I can't wait to be good enough to play online with friends.

2024 and the game is all like 2010....very outdated! Very bad graphics, very boring and bland career mode. Hell even no housing system etc. We need a Capcom Streetfighter Remake of Tennis!!! I played Top Spin 2K25 for 7hours and it's just mediocore to boring.

I've played Top Spin 4 on PS3 for years. I even played until this day. So ofcourse I immediately bought Top Spin 2k25 and I have to say I find it really good.
It feels solid, it sounds really good. The gameplay is so smooth! It takes a while to get used to but I think it could be really interesting when you master it. I feel like its an upgraded top spin 4 really. Graphic wise there is not much good to say about it but when it comes to actually playing points the graphics are not as important anymore and it looks quite okay to me.
Downside are there are not many active players to choose from. I would've loved to play with Zverev, Nadal, Dimitriov, Rublev and also Wawrinka. Also the gruting sounds are not very accurate and they are too frequent in my opinion. I have to explore the game modes but overall I'm happy with this new tennis game. First game I've bought in ages.

That is actually wrong. 2k Czech was the studio behind both mafia games and top spin 4. 2k closed down the 2k Czech and founded the Hangar 13 with the same team. So these guys made the top spin 4 and they made top spin 2k25 too.

The timing meter is a horrible idea you end up just staring at the meter the entire time instead of actually enjoying the game. And the movement is so much more clunky. Instant regret of spending 70$ on this shit

Movements and roster are incredibly realistic and never seen before but Gameplay is absolutely rubbish. Ideally, a mix of both worlds but I stick with top spin. Gameplay is the most important for feeling and fun
