I think I saw my first black person in 1959 in a store in Bayswater. I can remember saying something along the lines of; “Look mummy, (I was five years old), a chocolate man”. I imagine my mum was probably mortified but the man just laughed it off and bought me a bar of chocolate. Happier, innocent times.

I'm brown born and bred in London, in my 50s. When at primary school we used to watch a program called 'the way we used to live' set in Victorian days. It didn't matter that the cast were all white, it was fascinating and true. British culture must be preserved.

My mum who was born in 1945 and lived in London never saw one until she was 12. They brought them in to drive the buses and empty the rubbish after the war,
She was lucky if she never saw one until 1957, almost a decade after they rocked up here.
I was born in 1956 and have lived in the same part of London all my life. I never saw a black person until I started work in Deptford in 1972. Ther were none where I lived on our council estate. Nothing racist just a fact.
My parents were both born in Hertfordshire in 1933. My father says that as a boy he occasionally saw non-white people but they were so rare other people turned and stared at them in the street.
My Mother remembers seeing black American servicemen in Britain during the War, and that the blacks and whites seemed to be allowed out of American army camps at different times, presumably because it was thought that if they met off duty in a local town there would be trouble between them.
I noticed earlier that the BBC had an article about the black cello player objecting to ‘Rule Britannia’ being played at the Last Night of the Proms. He said that he was uncomfortable with it and left before the end to avoid it.

Surely those responsible should be sued for misrepresentation at the very least.
When anyone visits this museum and finds the 20th century rooms are no longer there, the best thing is to do is complain to the museum, either in person or online, and say that you wanted to see those particular rooms as well as the earlier period exhibits. Also suggest that you don't want to visit again because the exhibits are no longer there, that you will no longer recommend the museum to friends and family, etc. If the footfall drops, that is the best way to get the message across.
If they don't like our history get out of our country. Long live all British history .

Museums and Art Galleries aren't a "Black Thing".
The same thing has happened in my local museum in Blackburn. They have taken away all the displays showing how people used to live in Lancashire towns. There was weaving looms and exhibits to show how the cotton industry came about. Over the last 10 years all this has been replaced by exhibits of the Islamic faith, how people dress and live in India, Pakistan and other Middle Eastern countries. When I saw what they had done I was shocked that I now cannot show my grandchildren how people of our community lived pre WW11. I can’t show them anything about our own culture that once was. So very sad. I must add that the mayor of Blackburn is Muslim as are most of the councillors in Blackburn. The majority of councillors in the surrounding towns are also Muslim.

This is very sad. I grew up in neighbouring Oswaldtwistle and remember a school trip to the museum in Blackburn to learn about our heritage in the cotton industry. Who on earth would want to go there now? It's not as if we don't know how Pakistanis dress, we see it every day

Yes , I am a handspinner and you could start with a drop spindle but get the spinning wheel regardless and teach them your proud history . I do understand that cotton was spun on a different type of spinning device but wool is easier to find and a good choice to get the conversion started plus once you gain a little proficiency you can start teaching others and that's a good way to shut down the liars. Living in Oxford I find going to some of the museums full of misinformation. At my age, over 65, I do have the knowledge to know that I am being lied to - but what about younger people? We must resist this infantalization of history.

Why are you surprised a London museum would wish to dismantle British history? It is no longer a British city. Just boycott these temples to lies and bullsh@t, I do. Are they going to have displays of knives and suicide vests I wonder just to make the target audience feel more at home. Then again their target audience have probably never set foot in a museum and are highly unlikely to ever do so, whatever exhibits are on display. I suppose a few on the left will love such exhibitions though. I thoroughly expect the Guardian for example to give a very positive review when the exhibition opens.

I went to Birmingham last year. I hadn't been there before, aside from day trips for work. I therefore decided to give it a proper go, and see if it was as bad as I'd heard. I spent three days in the city centre, strolling around the canal and other nearby areas. It's very pleasant. I also went to the massive entertainment complex, Star City, which was interesting. It was also fun, but marred slightly by some of the people, namely two Asian men sat at the back of the cinema with smelly food, playing on their phones and chatting. As is often the case with people like this i.e. with no awareness of our social values and mannerisms, no amount of tutting or exaggerated sighing to politely demonstrate our frustration sinks in.
However, one experience that stood out more than this was the walk round the Birmingham Museum. It's a city steeped in history, going back a thousand years. Yet, the museum's gaze was heavily focused on just the last century or two and 'diversity'. I learned next to nothing about the history of Birmingham because all of the artefacts were selected on the basis of how 'inclusive' the story about them was. Many were only a part of Birmingham's history because the museum brought them in to shove in an alleged exhibition. An enormous, beautiful building that's meant to tell the story of our second city did no such thing.
In contrast, I stumbled across a guided tour of the cathedral - a much less imposing building than the museum - and in many ways very disappointing for a cathedral in a major city. It was however thoroughly enjoyable and the story of why it is a low key cathedral is actually very interesting. I came away having learned a bit about Birmingham and its ancient history, including the whole city centre around the cathedral being one massive graveyard (yes, even beneath many of the modern buildings).
It's such a shame that we have so much of our own interesting history, yet nobody wants to tell it. Yes, colonialism is a part of our history, but it's just one part. And what they tell you about colonialism and slavery isn't even correct or balanced. So we're left with being presented a fantasist history that doesn't even do us the justice of being correct.

As someone who lives near Brum , this is sickening knowing that Birmingham and Brummies kept this country fed with armaments when required , motor vehicles , rubber, engineering, chocolate, jewllery, and every item we required as well as great culture in recent years from music with bands like Black Sabbath, Judas priest, Duran Duran. All mean nothing to the woke left who insult the memory of hard working Brummies of all backgrounds as long as they van shove their lies and ideas down peoples throats.

I'm half way through a 2 month trip in the USA, here it is very similar to the UK..I haven't seen any black people in museums so far, or around any other historical places.. Seems the only places I tend to see them are hanging around the streets asking for free money..

Loved the Geffrye and always tried to visit when visiting friends in Hoxton. The museum is based on the historic furniture production and woodworking in the locality . Geffrye at Christmas was a particular treat, but I guess its now Geffrye at Ramadan , Dhiwali , Hanukkah........
Hah! I went to a Christmas reading at the Geffrye Museum around ‘91. Magical. I’m scared to see what is being done to the place now and think I shall just keep the happy memories I have.
Geffrye museum, never heard of it but then I fortunately don't live anywhere near London. I visited once on a school trip when I was 11, that was many decades ago and I have to say I have no burning desire to visit ever again. To be fair I have no burning desires to visit any of the other cities our once great country had to offer, such a sad state of affairs when indigenous history and culture no longer carry any validity...... so sad

Only answer is to not vote anymore, when enough of us stop voting, it will show, and we can mobilise, remove them swiftly in a non-violent fashion.

I was a regular visitor to the Geffrye Museum, cafe, shop, almshouses and garden, before the new Hoxton station opened, took a bus from Liverpool Street and front entrance in Kingsland rd, how disappointing to hear about this woke American style CRT gas lighting, they had already closed for over two + years to reopen as ‘museum of the home’, I revisited last year and saw the changes, noticed the explanation plaque beneath the Geffrye statue, and the new depressing notes adjacent to exhibits using words like 'enslaved' this museum used to be an oasis in the middle of Hackney, now its as if that dreadful, hopeless former President of Harvard Uni diversity hire is giving instructions to the trustees.
I`ll never understand why the people in charge, the trustees or some other imbeciles, decide to obey instead of simply not obeying.
Sounds awful. I wonder what the London plane trees outside make of it all.

I find it thoroughly disgusting and disturbing that our history is being erased right under our noses. Also what’s very sad and disturbing is that if the younger generation today don’t teach their children that this is a load of rubbish and completely untrue, they will grow up thinking all of this rubbish is true and very normal.

Something strange and unusual happened in our Tescos supermarket last week there were more indigenous people there than immigrants.

What is worth considering, is that what was done to the Germans, and the rhetoric around them being a danger to the world if not oppressed, was suddenly applied to all of Europe.
Also the timing of all of this sync's with the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the diffusion of Communists throughout Europe as a result. I don't see many talking about this connection at all. All I can say is that everything around us screams Communist.

I have been going to York religiously a few times a year for the past 30 years. Anyway I always went to the same museums , centres and tourist places. I had a period of 5 years when I never went and couldn't wait to go back to all the usual museums and I was absolutely astounded to see how woke they had got. It was all radical feminism and woke tripe. What I gathered from last visit to York is that only women and black people were important throughout British history and I have no idea what British white males were doing because they hardly got a mention . Thanks again for NOTHING to these people who have to keep pushing an agenda that is destroying everything

To dismantle the past is to deny the past. One reason we seek evidence and truth through history is to educate us towards a better future. Its a dangerous time when forces attempt to dismantle and blur the past.

Unfortunately you are so right Simon.I have over the years volunteered at several charity schemes,never has there been anything but white volunteers.I have done the London to Bridghton cycle ride,once for B.H.F,and once for a hospice.There were about 40 of us on that one,and I would say again,approx 36 whites ,3 various asian folks,and one black bloke.I like to visit the free art galleries too,hardly ever see a black person,and so it goes on,the truth is the truth!

The change in how history is being taught is the main reason I couldn't become a history teacher after working in archaeology for twenty years. Lies upon lies are being taught to children nowadays.
My daughter was taught about the slave trade at Primary school in Bristol.
For GCSE History they did the transatlantic slave trade.
For A level, the slave trade was a compulsory subject.
At University,for her BA slavery was a compulsory subject.
On considering a Masters degree the Tutor suggested a dissertation relating to the slavery experience.
It is constant.

Museums will be very boring if only Black English history and very small. Should be closed within a year or two. One wonders where they get the curators from, Never, Never land.
It would probably have a small glass cabinet featuring a knife and machete display, fakecollections of various drugs, and some guns.
I first visited the Geffrye museum in 1972 and I've returned a few times over the years, particularly to see the Christmas exhibitions which were always packed when I've been. It's been an absolute favourite place of mine and served as a cultural touchstone; uncontaminated by the nonsense. I've recommended it to others who have been equally delighted by it. I shan't ever go again nor shall I recommend it again. We are experiencing cultural rape.

@@AngelBaby-cp6kf Each staged room set decorated for Christmas as it would have been in its time. It was wonderful. It's not a big museum. The dismantling of our cultural reflections and illustrations is to derange and disorientate us. Our lives become a lie.

Oh that must be beautiful to see! Rooms decorated as they were back then! I would still go to the Geoffrey at Christmas time to see the old exhibitions. As long as you can still see them, you shouldn't despair.

I really wanted to take my children to the Geffrye museum, but now there's no way I'd subject them to the obscure new rubbish they're bringing in. I wanted my kids to see how my parents and grandparents' houses would have looked like - which were very typical, traditional British homes.
Yet they still have no factual, hard or physical evidence of ever having achieved anything, anywhere, no matter where in the world. As if some magician came along and vanished it all away from every corner of the globe.
No matter how hard they try to entice this tiresome group to be interested in anything academic will always be a complete and utter failure. The only way for these museums to succeed in their plight would be to pay our poor diversity group in gold, cash, or designer gear to attend. It wouldn’t last however and before long the museum would go bankrupt.
There are 7000 murders in South Africa every three months btw. A country that’s population is made up from 81.4% black people. Looks like no matter where they are in the world, minority or majority, they are in general a pretty troublesome bunch of individuals. 🤔

Cultural vandalism is how you erase the past , and replace it with a made up narrative . And as to how you can label the early 2000 as history is quite frankly puerile , but of course many of those who are running these institutions are them selves perpetually children . If they ever have to experience the real harsh realities of life , such as war I honestly don’t know how they’d cope .
Defund it if it's getting public money. Black people don't do museums, it will be empty & will have to close.
