    I'm upper intermediate so I had to put the video in 2x speed. The reason why I had to leave a comment is bc of what you said about listening being more important than speaking. I started learning Spanish with the pressure of speaking as soon as possible as a lot of teachers advise to do so, too. Didn't work for me. I've been learning for a year now and i could count in my fingers the number of times I spoke with natives (most of them didn't even last for 10 mins). I listened to this story twice the normal speed and understood it without any issues whatsoever. This is my advice to beginners. Don't get pressured of speaking in Spanish when you don't even have a good grasp of the language yet. It just won't work. COMPREHENSIBLE INPUT is the key (search what it means, you'll need it). Just like what maestro said in the beginning; hablar no sirve nada si no puedes entender lo que escuhas. Y'all are lucky to have found this channel. Hope I found it sooner. And good luck to our language learning journey!🎉❤

      My teacher also told me too, speaking speaking and to memorize the conjugation which makes it hard for us. I wanted to learn but I don't want to memorize it, I am more of understanding it. When I tried auditiva test, I had a hard time and so my compañeros.

      I've been studying since March, completed half of Duolingo, all of Babbel, and took 4 years of it in highschool. I only understood part of it like boys, small, garden, and the rest from photos. I'm struggling hard with this, and cannot relate to people pick it up at all. I've spent hours studying everyday recently and haven't given up, but it's probably the task with the most effort and least reward that I have ever taken part in. Kudos to those who do it.

    I could understand almost all of it. I first slowed down the speed because I couldnt keep up to write. But then I picked up the speed and just kept rewinding until I got it.
    Ive been working on Spanish for years aprendiendo en la calle cuando viajando. Man did my ego think I knew a bunch! But every time I return to Latin America I realize how much I don't know. Particularly with comprehension.
    I'm at an intermediate level and can speak enough to express damn near anything I want to say. But comprehending, especially fast spanish, is still suuuuuper tough! And more and more am I realizing suuuuuuper important.
    When I'm travelling in places with no English(which I always aim for) I always say immediately when I can't understand: Por favor hablas más despacio conmigo, mi espanol no es muy bueno, pero estoy tratando de aprender. I do it with a smile and I have a good attitude. And I have a good time.
    More often than not, native speakers are helpful and patient and I learn a lot in the immersion itself.
    I always keep a notebook with me and write down many of things I didn't know how to say or that I didn't understand but managed to figure out... I study it later...
    Just have fun with it and be patient with your self!
    Thanks so much Spanish input for this channel I just discovered. Ive explored many and yours is one of my fast favorites that I immediately subscribed to. :)

At about the six week mark, I know that this exercise has increased my learning exponentially, and I'm eager for the next story about the mysterious woman (?)...and of course, the quiz for this one. Thank you for this channel. It's going to be my home base for acquiring/learning Spanish.

    1.5+ year of practice here, my Spanish reading skill is fairly high in the intermediate level where I don't need much English translation in the story, but I am struggling with listen comprehsion. This video humbles me and I couldn't get a grasp of the words that I understand in reading but not listening. This tells me I need to listen way more than reading and speaking.. Your concept is so on point! In real life, the learner should be doing most of the listening for conversational or such

    creo que lo que estás haciendo con este canal, lo que en el que te estás concentrando es algo genial, verdaderamente. Pero creo que es muy importante que todos los estudiantes de español sepan que necesitan mucho más que cinco mil palabras, al menos de forma pasiva, si quieren ser capaz de entender contenido nativo sin subtítulos, leer novelas Etc. Mi punto es aún cuando es verdad que son palabras más importantes y comunes no hay palabras inútiles. Espero que tu canal siga creciendo!

    Do you think there's an optimal combination of extensive listening/watching comprehensible input and this intensive method? I've made a lot of progress in my comprehension by solely listening, but I recognise that I do miss some details. By devoting time to extensive listening you cover more content but will miss some detail. What sort of mix in terms of time would you recommend?

    • @spanishinput
      @spanishinput  Год назад +5

      Hi! This exercise requires lots of energy, but you'll a lot more out of it than from "just listening". I've only done this for hours a day when I've been preparing for an exam, learning minimal pairs of a language or when I want to get my ears more attuned to a particular TV show. The rest of the time I "just listen". So IMHO, you should be doing more extensive than intensive listening. Just don't fool yourself into thinking that "background listening" while you do other things is nearly as effective as sitting down and paying attention.

    excelente! cómo utilizar los subtítulos... activa los subtítulos. Escucha las palabras sin mirar los subtítulos, salvo periódicamente cuando sea necesario. ¿qué te parece?

      ¡Hola! Todo depende de cada persona. Si eres como yo y no puedes evitar mirar los subtítulos, hay que apagarlos.

    It would be interesting to know about what "level" this is. A2? I think I need something a little bit more difficult.

    Soy esnob de verdad. Solo quiero escuchar el acento castellano de España PERO soy estadounidense y me cuesta mucho buscar y hallar españoles y canales de sí. Por eso, le doy las gracias por este canal y la voz clara y precisa de lo cual a alguien pueda aprender. Me encanta el camino que nos exponga y LA VERDAD que nos haya dicho. Sí, acuerda a la RAE hay 90.000 palabras españolas PERO cuando nos da cuenta que estas son infinitivos solas, hay más de 1.000.000 palabras en el español. El punto es dar la información y los permite decidir los estudiantes cuantas palabras quisieran adoptar. Lo odios los sitios donde el profe dice «solo se necesita los 250 palabras más comunas». Sí, si quieres sonar como payaso o niño.

    ¿Cómo puedo apagar los subtítulos en este video para poder cumplir el primer paso de su técnica de transcripción?

    Me encantan este video ,, i have a question is how much comprehensible inputs i need to reach intermediate level??

    • @spanishinput
      @spanishinput  Год назад +1

      ¡Hola! Input is just one part of what you need. You also need to study phonetics, phonology, grammar and train your ears with different dialects. It's impossible to give a time estimate because an hour of "just watch and listen" is not the same as an hour of "intensive, focused listening while transcribing".

    Can anyone comment on what sort of Spanish accent is in this video? (Mexican, Peruvian, etc.?)

      Hi! It's "Nowhere-ian". I try my best to speak in neutral Spanish in my videos.
