- Splinter Removal - Steel Wire Splinter. I got this splinter in my arm when using a cup-type wire brush on an angle grinder, the wires sometimes, when under load become loose and fly off, this is where the personal safety gear is well and truly needed.
All is good, that wound will heal on my arm very nicely, I am sure.
Always use all the correct safety gear, and use your tools safely, I am not a good role model for this.

"Always use the correct safety gear and use your tools safely. I'm not a good role model for this." Gavin backs this up like a pro! Love from the US. Cheers Mate.
Hahaha, You see I was right, I appreciate your comment. Cheers from Australia, mate.
@Gavin, i inspired me so much. I try to do things better than you, sir. Because i’m younger than you. God bless us !
@@markgic.772 Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment and wish you the best for the future.
I pray to God to bless you and protect you, my brother
Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment Mohamad. All is good.
Thanks for showing this, maybe it will convince people to always wear safety glasses when using an angle grinder. 👍
I agree, biggest thing is to also always wear a face shield when using a wire wheel, it is one thing I always wear when using them, as I have seen what can happen. I appreciate your comment Yoda.
Hi Gavin. That one was in deep! Gotta respect power tools that can cause you great physical harm. I've been injured myself more times than I like to admit. A moment of inattention is all it takes. Glad you're OK. Thanks for the video!
-mike
Yes I am fine, it came out ok, thats the main thing. I appreciate your comment.
Oh man Gavin! I've done this too, it's always such a surprise how far they get under! Much respect man.
Yes, they certainly can drive themselves in, quite amazing when they have all the bends in them. Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment.
And THAT'S why we wear eye protection! Nice extraction....Doc. 😉
Yes, spot on, you should always wear a face shield when using a wire wheel, thats one rule I follow all the time, thanks for your comment Rocket.
Real Men! You are like my husband, y'all crack me up! We need more of you guys that's for sure!! 🤗 💙
Thank you very much, sounds like you have a good man there, Kera, I appreciate your comment. Cheers to your husband.

Gee Gavin you Aussie guys are tuff from number one
Thanks, Number one, I will shout you a beer when I see you next. Cheers mate.
It's why I wear ballistic safety glasses ALWAYS when working in my shop.
Ouch Gavin, you were lucky!
Hi Reg, yes I got off ok with this, I always wear a face shield when using a wire wheel, these sneaky wires have a bad habit of flying everywhere. Cheers mate.
You are certainly tough my friend! Cool video
Thanks, Wayne, I almost didn't video it, but I am glad I did. Thank you for your comment.
Take care, nice to hear from you. Hope you’re having good summer.
Thank you very much, All is going well here, summer is mild, I cant complain, Cheers Craig I wish you the best.
YeeOuch!! It happens 🤷🏼♂️ I’m always finding brush wire in my clothes after working in my shop. Glasses and gloves are a must!
Yes, always wear your safety gear, Cheers!
Good job Gavin! showing us how deep a wire can go coming off a grinder spinning 10 k plus ! no joke
Yes, they move fast, and bury in to what they hit, a good reminder to wear all your safety gear. Thank you for your comment.
It's no wonder how dangerous the angle grinder is plus ALL of the various wheels & brushes & disks. 😮
Thanks for showing this,😷
No problem 😊
Nice extraction, as a blacksmith i use cone wire brushes and wheels all the time, but only get them in my clothing mostly. My worst experience has to be when i cleaned the floor under my car, i must of had about ten or more in my torso and arms and another 20 in my clothing. i wouldn't use them only they do such a great job. Hope you have another project video coming out soon, cant wait for some more content.
Thanks, Brett, yes it came out quite well. I agree they do a great job and give the perfect look on some of my projects, just a matter of clothing and protecting your face and eyes, I always have a face shield on when using these wire wheels. Thank you for your comment.
And this should serve as a reminder to wear eye protection at all times.
I agree 100% and a face mask as well, I appreciate your comment.
I've heard whiskey puts hairs on your chest, but what are you drinking to grow steel hair from your forearm? Haha! Glad you got it out easy enough.
Hahaha, Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment.
You made me laugh. Got lots of people squirming. Good on you. I had one and thought it was just a tiny cut until the next day when I looked down at the constant irritation and saw the wire sticking out.
Hahaha, I have done that myself, finding them the next day or when the redness starts. Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment.
@@GavinClarkdiy I find dry hardwood splinters are worse.
I agree 100%, when you get hold of a steel splinter with tweezers it will come out in one bit, that is not the case for wood, and as you say hardwood sort of barbs itself in, I do have to say the hardwood I use is dark and you can see a splinter normally when you are trying to get them out, I have a video of a splinter I could not get out and had to do to the doctor, I am sure you can relate to this. ruclips.net/channel/UCddI3dHC_6cQ7etjQvr1Q1A Cheers Building stuff, keep safe
@@GavinClarkdiy could you please give me a fresh link to the video. That one failed.

Ouch! Those things happen. Glad it wasn’t any worse!
Thank you very much, all is good.
Ouch! Just relived my experience with the same thing, was watching someone use a spinning wire brush, and got a lovely big bit in my leg, jeez it hurt,...
The wires move fast when they come out, and as you know they can hurt a lot, I don't have anyone around me when I use these, and face shields are a must, we have to protect our eyes, Cheers Trisha, keep safe.
Wow. It's incredible. I hope you are okay.
All is good, no problem, thank you for your comment.
Different!
This clearly demonstrates why wearing eye protection and other PPE is so f#&£ing important! 🤓 Imagine that wire hitting an eyeball! 🫣 Good of you to show this Gavin. 👍
Thank you very much, even I never use a wire wheel without a face mask on, it is nice that people see what can happen, it may make people wear PPE, I appreciate your comment.
Need to get some Kevlar sleeves for your shirts!
You are right, A smart guy would have been wearing his leather welding coat, I always wear a face sheild when using wire wheels.Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment Dan.
Mate done the same thing only with mig wire , and it was red hot . 👍🤠
You win, I can imagine that pain buried under the skin, nope I would not like that. Thanks for your comment Douglas, cheers mate.
LOL Gav. 🤣🤣🤣 I would have gone to the hospital and demanded a general anaesthetic. LOL And a little bit of laughing gas.
Hahaha mate, you fishermen have to push the hooks all the way through to get them out, I get to pull it out the way it went in. Thank you for your comment, Robbie.
I'm glad it was not serious! 😅😅😅 A good reminder to us to always use appropriate protection 😉😉😉
Yes, when people see these things, it does make them think wow, I must protect myself so that does not happen to me, so let's hope this helps someone, I would never ever run a wire brush like this without a face shield, that has been a rule of mine forever. I wear gloves, but longer thick gloves and a leather welding coat would have prevented this injury. Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment.
@@GavinClarkdiy Yes, it takes only a second to protect oneself, and if we don't do it, we can remember it our whole life 😅😅
Thanks again! 👏👏
Edit: when I use a wire disc like that, I always wear a heavy coat, and when I hear and feel some wires impacting it, I feel good knowing that I'm not without it 😅😅
Wow, went in a long way, lucky there was enough sticking out to grab hold of
Yes, I am glad I did not have to dig for it, it was perfect just the right amount to get a good grip. Thank you for your comment Doug.
Uuuuuh 😱😱 tough guy !
Respect. Doing medicals while talking...... 😳
Thanks Herby, I almost didn't video it, but I am glad I did, I appreciate your comment.
I've been there a few times. Usually in my belly with the wires. I've bought a leather apron to help with that... now to remember to wear it....
You would be like me the only time you remember to wear it is when you are pulling another wire out. Cheers! Ross.
Ouch!! I was using a pneumatic nailer, driving 3 1/4" nails and put a nail into my arm. It didn't go in all the way so I went to the store that I purchased the nailer from and complained about the nailer not driving the nails all the way in. Then I showed them a picture of the nail sticking about 1 1/2" out of my arm.
Sometimes we get lucky.
Hahaha, I would have loved to see their face when you complained. Luckily your arm was not nailed to a rafter and you were up a ladder, things could have been worse. Thank you for your comment, Mike, hope the nail didn't do any long-term damage. Keep safe mate.
That thing was deep.
It still came out ok that was the main thing. Thank you for your comment.
A dangerous injury, albeit a small one. I hope you're doing well.
All is good thank you, it came out ok and there is no sign of a problem with it. Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment.
Way-ta-go Rambo 👍
Hahaha, Rambo would have pulled it out with his teeth. Thank you for your comment.
When I first started using a wire wheel on a grinder I was wearing only safety goggles. I was pulling wires out of my forehead. Now use a full face shield.
I nevr use one either unless I have a face shiels on, saves the pain. Cheers mate.
Hey Gav. Long time no see mate
Hope all’s well with you.
Almost passing out just seeing you pull that thing out of there. 😅

All is good Ray, good to hear from you. Cheers mate.

Why why why,
Do you work without protection
I always wear gloves and a face shield when doing this, you are right if I had my leather welding coat on this would not have happened. Thank you for your comment.
Yup. Never a question of if, but when. Wire wheels are evil... but man do they get the job done.
Yes, I agree, one of those necessary evils we use to get the finish we want. Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment.
little bloody ripper ... calm as can be
Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment.
Dangerous as buggery those wire brushes - more PPE needed me thinks.
Yes I agree, always finding wires in my clothes after using the wire wheels, Longer thick gloves and a leather welding coat would have prevented that for sure. Thanks for your comment.
Hi Gavin. Glad to see that the injury is only superficial and nothing more serious then that. The wire brush manufacturers should look at another way of securing those bristles. Last time I used the softer ( gold looking ) brush to clean my barbeque grill, I ended up looking like as if i was attacked by a wire brush porcupine. I had wire bristles all over my over all jacket and some in my flesh. Luckly i had the safety glasses and the full face shield on😂🤣🇿🇦. Be safe and we are looking forward to see another video soon
Thanks, Neville, yes a very simple hole, all is good. I have had that look of "attacked by a wire brush porcupine" a number of times. Keep safe mate, and thank you for your comment.

Muchas gracias, agradezco tu comentario.
Wear your safety glasses kids.
Rotating steel wire brushes are always underestimated. They are dangerous. You got to be very carefully.
Yes I agree 100%, I have used them quite a bit, very dangerous things. I appreciate your comment.
Gavin you need a Tetanus Vaccination.
Tetanus is a potentially fatal infection caused by a toxin made by the bacterium Clostridium tetani. It's also called "lockjaw" because the muscles around the jaw can tighten shut, making it impossible to open your mouth or swallow. Tetanus bacteria live in soil and can enter your body through an open wound caused by a splinter, insect bite, puncture wound, or self-piercing. In the U.S., tetanus mostly affects older people who are not vaccinated or have not gotten booster shots. It can be treated in the hospital, but up to one in 10 people who get it die. There is no cure for tetanus, so the best treatment is prevention through vaccination.
Thank you very much, I am up to date with my Tetanus shot, I very much appreciate your comment Max.
"Always seek licensed medical attention. I am not a good role model for this." 😂🤣
Hahaha, I should have said that, spot on Robert, Cheers
--- Therefore, always use protection, especially in the eyes. Imagine if that wire brist had ended in an eye...! My God!!!
Muchas gracias, agradezco tu comentario.
