I can explain why the 75% WN paper shows off the colors more vividly: It doesn't absorb the water as quickly - that is, it isn't as "thirsty" - as the 100% cotton Arches paper. With more water sitting on the surface of the paper for a bit longer, the pigments in the paint can move around in it, group up like ants at a picnic, and provide stronger color. Great video, by the way. Your enthusiasm is energizing.
The original Japanese names work better than these English ones. The first kanji in each means illusion/dream/vision/phantom and then it actually gives the two colours in it. First three are green + the other colour and last two are blue + a the other colour. So, the name already tells quite a lot what to expect. Also, gansai watercolours aren’t strictly speaking same thing as western aquarelles. The binders are different and that’s why you get glossy finish if you use thick layers. Also some tricks you would do with the western watercolours won’t work as well with gansai but this also means gansai can do things that western watercolours might not be very good at. So, it is not that one is better than the other but that they have different strengths. (Especially if low lightfastness is no problem.) 🎨
Thank you so much for your input, that was really helpful. I love Gansai watercolors, they were my first love when I started to learn watercolor and for me, they are still a lot more fun than regular ones.
Hi. I'm not saying you can't use a heat gun for granulating watercolors, I'm saying for this colorful effect, I've read you have to give it time to do its thing. I hope that helps!
hi. Because the splitting of the colors has to be natural. If you dry it immediately, they don't split like that and that awesome effect doesn't happen.
Magic Watercolors!!! I mean it!!! How awesome was this? Would you buy 5 pans of brown paint and hope for the best? I did and it was magical!!
You are only the second person I’ve heard that pronounced Arches correctly. I’m debating on getting these.
I love kuretake and the granulating set is interesting.
Me too!

Could you please tell me why you cannot dry granulated watercolors??

Dyes work better on cheap paper. These are cheap dyes mixed with pigment. Not worth $5.00.
