Back when I was 8 years old my aunt gave me the Nintendo DS version of this game for Christmas. The second level was a "stealth section" where you had to flee from the old woman's kitchen without being spotted by hiding in cups, kitchen cabinets, etc. If she spotted you, a close-up of the woman's face armed with the shotgun appeared on the lower screen of the DS accompanied by a screech, and I swear by Christ that that shitty image and sound scared younger me so much I didn't dare to play that game for a full year. Thank you, RT, for helping me remember one of my childhood's weirdest traumas.
Oh right, they played some accordion track if you got spotted. I remember loving this game as a kid even if it was frustrating at times. So much nostalgia. Maybe I should try and see if my PS2 still works and play it again. I’ve still got Over The Hedge, Madagascar, Arthur and the Invisibles, The Incredibles 1 & 2, Shrek 2, and others. PS2 was the golden era for film games. So much fun. It’s always strange that your memory of the graphics is much better than the reality.
This game was a part of my childhood. I remember replaying those slide levels over and over again on the PS2. Oh and the dream world's. Man I remember every damn level in this game.

I can tell that there are a lot of people in the comments coming in surprised, both with memories and continued ratspect (respect) for the game, and I figure it may be helpful or heartwarming to know that there is a community that came purely from this undying love. Its been a little bit since ive been active in it, but I want to bring up the speedrun community for this game. I hate to do this as it may come off as shameless, but nonetheless, you mentioned it briefly in this video. I was a founding member and have had significant influence spaRATically over the years. I had enjoyed this as a kid, but after extensive revisiting, ive gained a whole new appreciation for it. When asobo was set to make this game, the movie was still in production. Their close contact with the film team ended up being utilized intensely, as when looking at locations and lining up screenshots from the film, the environments are almost literally one to one. The controls are crisp, simple, amd relatively easy to get the hang of, minus a learning curve for the surprising sprint speed as well as the pole swinging that RT misses in the city level. The flavor and delight in how the obstacles and platforms are crafted in a rat sized ratio is consistent throughout and delightful. Levels are mostly open and yet straightforward to navigate, with the main path usually being prevalent in appearance and accessibility. collectibles are sometimes strewn about the main path, but they are mainly tucked in side paths to encourage exploration and tinker with little pockets of puzzle solving. The dreamworlds are colorful, vibrant, and progressively challenging. The slides are supreme tests of speed management and turning control, albeit they are definitely daunting considering the intended audience. The game has over a thousand collectibles if you consider each individual star, and yet it never feels over bloated. The extras shop feels rewarding, with all sorts of additional content, including cute and exciting party minigames, time trials, behind the scenes, etc. Oh right, this was supposed to be a shoutout to the speedrun community. Anyway, point is, please dont feel wrong or that you are alone in liking this game. There are many rats in the colony, and we all look out for each other. I can post the discord for people interested. Thanks for your time and take good care of yourselves ✌

There is a french food called ratatouille that has nothing to do with rats, it is even a plot point that rats are capable of cooking ratatouille in the movie known as Ratatouille.
@@DawnTyrantEo As a french I can confirm that there is no such thing as ratatouille here, it was invented in the nineteen fifties as a form of propaganda because of our predisposition to dairy, bread and meat. There were many stillborns and miscarriages caused by malnutrition, and upon their use in the rennet industry the american government started cracking down on what they considered "cannibalistic" practices, and what we considered culture and recycling. Eventually, my people invented ratatouille as a false recipe to be cooked in america to prove that we eat vegetables, but nevertheless, using the interior lining of a child's stomach to coagulate cheese isn't a practice lost to time, in fact, for the past few decades it has been fully legal to sell living children to the rennet industry as long as they're under the age of 5 and have an IQ lower than the twenty fifth percentile. En tant que français je peux confirmer qu'il n'y a pas de mets en existance au nom de ratatouille, là je penses que j'ai prouvé que je suis bel et bien français donc je peux arrêter de traduire.

I USED TO PLAY THIS GAME SO MUCH ON MY PS2! I loved it to much but there was this one REALLY long slide closer to the end of the game that I just couldn’t get down without sliding off the sides. I was so young that I thought intimate objects hade feelings and therefore could feel pain, so whenever I failed and got angry, I would bite the joysticks hard as I could as a ‘punishment’ for the controller 😭
So I remember playing this game to a hundred percent back in the day and I remember absolutely DESPISING THIS GOD FORSAKEN GAME! So I bought it out of the bargain bin at my local GameStop for my PS2 as a child and I really liked the movie so I thought to myself "Oh cool they made a game I wonder how fun it'll be!?". Little did I know this game single handedly made me rage so hard that I snapped my PS2 in half.(I had anger issues) so kid me got a second PS2 and did his best not to rage, and I remember hating the sublevels where it's a fever dream of food parkour it was awful I couldn't tell you how many times I died trying to jump from the grind rail pasta onto a fork with frame perfect timing it was actually infuriating because if I didn't make it up to that point I would die by weird camera physics and walking off a narrow fucking chocolate bar into an abyss of clouds. I guess the sewer pipe surfing levels were cool but I remember in the later chapters there was this one specific level that had a frame perfect jump you had to make that was way too hard to calc because of how fast you were going through the pipe and you'd end falling into the abyss below.
2:31 I remember seeing commercials for the Cars game showing it was out on every console at the time, as well as the last 2 gens or something like that. It showed every box on screen, all with identical boxart.
Okay i had this game on the psp when i was like 7 and from what i remember it actually wasnt that bad (but VERY different from this version). You had to collect gusteau’s lost recipes and for every recipe you collected you got a real life (kid friendly) recipe that you could actually make. it was actually really fun and got me interested in cooking as a kid, which is something i really love now. the beginning of this stream where everyone was subbing to dan just to hear the “HAPPY BIRTHDAY” alert was the best thing to ever happen on twitch
Was this the context for the "Happy Birthday" spam from the end of the video? I missed the beginning of this stream so I had no idea lmao
yeah thats the context
5:30 wow this game had Twitch integration, it was ahead of its time
okay but some new animated movie games would be kinda rad. a moana game where you explore islands and unlock magic abilities, and such? could be cool
Still waiting for a Wild Kratts metroidvania
But that would require effort this time.

Oh god I remember this game.
My mom got it from one of those movie/video game rental places that you can't find anymore. I only managed to get halfway through the game before I had to return it though.

I have such fond memories of this game and the Over The Hedge one haha, glad to see others do too!
i had the madagascar game on ps2
i found a few obscure glitches on that game lmfao idk how i even did it
This game was a part of my childhood. I remember replaying those slide levels over and over again on the PS2. Oh and the dream world's. Man I remember every damn level in this game.
its amazing
I actually had a different Ratatouille game on PSP. It was after the events of the movie, where Skinner stole the recipes and we had to go search for them. It was... surprisingly decent.
Also had a G-Force PSP game. Was okay, but barely relevant to the plot of the movie. And had a radically different ending, which young me did not enjoy.
I had the G-force game for DS. I remember a scene where someone was gased to death or something, I just remember seeing a door with a glass panel, and a hand sliding down that panel.
@@Mia_SilverWings wtf?

This game was my jam as a kid. After watching the stream, I fired up my PS2 and 100% completed the game again. Good times.
When I was younger my siblings would hog the time with the game, so I had to get really good. I ended up clearing the flood level on my first try, but my siblings couldn’t beat it. They got mad and to this day won’t admit that I was better
“This feels like an Up game without balloons.”
*The officially licensed Up game doesn’t have balloons.*
Good god, I played the hell out of this on the PS2 and I vividly remember what it was like going through each one of these levels. This was an unexpected but well appreciated nostalgia trip
Seeing this game has unlocked memories I had forgotten about. Terrifying
I forgot about this game I actually played it as a kid and I think I liked it. I also played the Madagascar, the Shrek 2, and the GeForce games, they were surprisingly good.
3:10 Actually, yes. I own Shrek 1,2,3, and 4 for Xbox 360. This is what happens when kids put “video game” on their Christmas list and don’t specify what game they want. Parents will buy the cheapest game they can find. (The Shrek 3 game is the best out of the bunch btw).
oh god I played this game... it was so confusing but so good.
Fun fact: There is actually a game based on Ratatouille movie that only focused on the cooking aspect. I remember vividly playing that game on my Nintendo DS. Such a good time.
I watched this entire stream while recovering from COVID and I appreciate the zooms during the Golden Balls section to show me that she was, in reality, not holding knives.

I absolutly loved this game on the PS2. The unfair difficulty at some points was the best, but now I see that the PS2 version was one of the better ones. Still one of the best games of my childhood. Would play it again if I didn't broke the disc.

Welcome to the Pixar video game version of Saw.
Rat-a-touille game, why would they call it that? It sounds like Rat... and patooty. RATPATOOTY GAME... which does not sound entertaining.

The nostalgia trip this gave me from playing it as a kid hit me like a truck.

I also have the Golden Balls game (I don’t have the Ratatouille one anymore), and you were spot on; very similar to Deal or No Deal. It even opens with a similar scene where Jasper Carrot introduces you to his animated self.

Bring more videogames like these, the incredibles is such a good game
**Preferably without the mostly baseless shit talk
that eastenders bit smacked me in the face with nostalgia

Looking back i do think a cooking mama knock off wouldve made more sense but i do have really fond memories of this game despite it being a paragon of the hellscape that was the 2000s kids movie to shitty video game pipeline
Every studio during the 2000s:
"We need to make a unique game adaption of our movie"
"Lets make it a platformer with a few stealth/evasion scenarios and throw in some vague movie movie references"
