On the subject of the recap and how the films pick up where the others left off, it's actually possible to stitch the trilogy to together into one complete cut. If you watch Evil Dead 1 all the way through, you can pick up where you left off by starting Evil Dead 2 at the part where Ash is dragged through the woods by the evil force and is dropped into the puddle. Same can be done with Army of Darkness, just stop Evil Dead 2 as soon as the timewarp sequence ends and pick up in Army of Darkness right after the opening and the title sequence.

That's funny because the same thing happened with Italian horror movies in the west, among others. Like every Demons sequel from 3 onwards were actually their own horrors movies in Italy with no ties to the first two.
Horror film professor here - from what I’ve read, Evil Dead 2 is a remake that responded to Evil Dead’s reception. Raimi said that he incorporated more humor into 2 because he watched Evil Dead audiences laugh at the “horror” onscreen. So he figured the “sequel” should incorporate that reaction along with the horror aspects.
When this movie came out, me and friend snuck into the theater to see it. It was so amazing we snuck in two more times. Watching this movie three times in a row on the big screen in one day was pretty epic and probably why it’s one of my all time favorites. Not just because it’s a great movie but remembering the fun we had that day. Thanks for the video.
I have vivid memories of seeing this at the Puente Hills theatre. There was almost nobody in the theatre! But the ten or so people who were there were laughing throughout! A rollicking good time.
Here in Brazil, back in the 80s and 90s, there was a huge mess up with the names of those movies. The first movie was released as "Morte do Demônio" (Death of the Demon, kinda close to Evil Dead). But the second movie was released as "Noite Alucinante 2" (Mind Blowing Night 2). But Army of Darkness was released as just "Noite Alucinante". So, if you didn't know the series, you'd make a mess trying to rent them in VHS.
I just rewatched all these a couple weeks ago and I loved them all, but I was more into the first one this time. I just love the homemade quality of it. I didn't hate the recent remake either, although I probably won't rewatch that again.
As always, great video. I remember seeing this as a double feature with Nightmare on Elmstreet 3. I had never heard of ED and was going to see Freddy. But ED 2 blew me away and has since become my favorite horror of all time.
I look at the whole remake/sequel thing like this. Depends on how you're watching them. They all can stand alone as a individual movie without watching the others. You can also binge the whole series as one continual move by just skipping the recaps.
The first one sure, after that though there’s not much scare factor. ED1 and 2 scared me when I was a kid but I find the horror in the first one still really effective.
First Evil Dead is pure horror. The unintentional cheesiness although made it a bit silly. Evil Dead 2 was more of a horror-comedy and was intentional in spirit. Evil Dead 3: Army of Darkness was just pure adventure comedy.
Evil Dead is hands down my favorite film series of all time, I watched the movies, the series, played the new game, and even vacationed for Thanksgiving in Tennesse with my fam around the area where they filmed.
This movie deserves more attention from the new generation. It's cinema history. When I think of horror movies, this is definitely up there with Nightmare, Friday, and Halloween.
One might argue that Alien Apocalypse was a stinker (I still love my DVD copy), but apparently Walmart has... a rating system of their own, which gives it a 5/5 rating!
I was 19 and working at a movie theater when this came out. After work we would get lots of beer and smoke and have private viewing parties. I saw it dozens of times upon release. We were all movie nuts and had rented the first one over and over so we were pretty stoked for it.
Damm, when I was a teen back in the early 90's,I worked at the movie theaters and all us employees would watch movies after work and we wouldn't leave until 3 to 4 in the morning.
When he says workshed he isn't actually speaking. It's his internal dialog, he is thinking workshed. He has done the internal monolog/dialog many times and it is usually dubbed or exaggerated in some way.
My favorite line: "Who's laughing now?" Comment about "Rosebud" distribution. The word "Rosebud" had to be an homage, to the end of "Citizen Kane". Urban legend has it, that the use of the name, "Rosebud", for the sled, was, in fact, a personal dig on William Hearst, who used the word "Rosebud", to refer one of his mistress', uhhhhhhh, "body parts".
And this is correct if I am not mistaken, Sam Raimi made homage to Citizen Kane and the term Rosebud uses as a mystery and all was looking for a rosebud etc, but it was a sled named rosebud all along.
I think I belong to the minority that prefer the OG Evil Dead. Evild Dead 2, which is kind of a remake of OG movie, is a little bit too bonkers and somewhat theatrical for my taste :) Still a good movie for sure!
I'm with you on that. I was kind of confused when I watched the 2nd one. Why did they do the same thing again? It doesn't even matter if parts of it are better, because I've already experienced this.
@@Danielson1818 I thought I was one of very few who thinks like you. I always thought Sam Raimi was very smart for doing the same movie twice and making money off of the same script twice. Being a huge horror kid growing up, I would see the original THE EVIL DEAD on an earlier limited release midnight showing one Halloween night, my best buddy and I were both blown away. A short time later in college here in Massachusetts I would lend my own talents freelance(animation, acting, etc.)for my teachers’/friends’ very popular Boston animation studio(known for many of their classic Mtv/Vh1 bumpers, music videos, fx, among other things, etc.). The shop master of fx was doing test shots for THE ARMY OF THE DEAD-era version of this sequel as they told me we maybe working on the project… I was sooo stoked! Sadly we were told the house was too ‘expensive’ for Raimi and co.’s sequel and we did not end up being used in any of the future production. One of the very few times I’ve cried profusely, let me tell you! :( Minty, stellar work as usual, one of the BEST review channels out here!!! And a Happy ROCKtober from The Witch City U.S.A.!
The Evil Dead 2 is one of my all time favourite movies. There was a time in the '80's when my friends and I would watch it at least once a month, we could quote the dialogue along with the cast and had a great time.
Evil Dead 2 was filmed here in Anson County NC down at the sand pits in Lilesville and an old school in Wadesboro. Lots of locals were extras. They got paid $75 per day. $125 if they brought their own horse.
The funny thing with me and TED movies is that I kept remembering how great TED was when someone would mention it. I'd say, I really liked this part, or that part, and people would say, "That's in the second one." Long story, etc... I had never seen TED. I had only watched TED2 and thought it was TED. Eventually I did watch the first one, but it was kind of weird for me. I had it in my head that the 2nd one was the 1st and, for some weird reason, I couldn't reconcile a "second" TED part 1. It was a very strange experience. Almost like deja vu, but not. I can't explain it.
My old man was not into horror movies but 13 years old me convince him to watch it and he find it quiet funny and entertaining, it's a good memory as I didn't have so much like this as he passed away few years after.
Minty, I don’t know if you will read this, but there are actually a lot of similarities between the Evil Dead and the Karate Kid movies. First you might think there really is no similarities between these two movie franchises, because they’re completely different premises. But I found some similarities that are kind of strange. Each movie series has three movies starring the main protagonist that has to rise above and fight something that appears to be stronger than them. Also, I might be wrong about this but each movie of each franchise has three different main female characters, and two movies of these franchises features the two main protagonists having romantic relationships with these two characters. Although in the last film of each franchise they are not romantically involved. Finally, each franchise has a remake that is, more or less hated by fans of the original series. Also, each franchise now has its own streaming series that is more or less beloved by fans of the original series. These are just some weird similarities I saw between the karate kid and evil dead

That's funny because the same thing happened with Italian horror movies in the west, among others. Like every Demons sequel from 3 onwards were actually their own horrors movies in Italy with no ties to the first two.
EVil Dead 2 is probably my favorite movie... Certified Minty Fresh!
Great way to start my day - NEW MINTY!!
Evil Dead 2 is definitely a remake. It's the same story (throughout the entire film), done with a better budget.
I absolutely *LOVE* Evil Dead II. One of my favorites.
Minty, gimme some sugar baby!
I have vivid memories of seeing this at the Puente Hills theatre. There was almost nobody in the theatre! But the ten or so people who were there were laughing throughout! A rollicking good time.
This is one of my all time favorites
Fun Fact: The Cabin in the movie was also used for Blood Red Sandman performed by Lordi.
I'm still trying to figure out how Evil Dead was considered a horror comedy. That shit was pure horror for me growing up.
Really? I thought it was mostly funny
My favorite scene is when ash girlfriend comes back from the dead she dance and torture him. 😀👍🧟♂️
I love this movie too, it's a classic. Bruce Campbell is frigging awesome!
In my van on my lunch break and watching a new Minty vid about one of my favourite horror/comedies Evil Dead II....nice one Minty 👍
Bruce Campbell is a god. Everything he touches has been gold.
One might argue that Alien Apocalypse was a stinker (I still love my DVD copy), but apparently Walmart has... a rating system of their own, which gives it a 5/5 rating!
Even "Bubba Ho-Tep"? 😂
@@jrussellcase yep, Bubba is gold
I was 19 and working at a movie theater when this came out. After work we would get lots of beer and smoke and have private viewing parties. I saw it dozens of times upon release. We were all movie nuts and had rented the first one over and over so we were pretty stoked for it.
Damm, when I was a teen back in the early 90's,I worked at the movie theaters and all us employees would watch movies after work and we wouldn't leave until 3 to 4 in the morning.
Nancy is watching the Evil Dead in A Nightmare on Elm Street.
When he says workshed he isn't actually speaking. It's his internal dialog, he is thinking workshed. He has done the internal monolog/dialog many times and it is usually dubbed or exaggerated in some way.
Groovy!
Ah you beat me to it. This is the one that cemented Bruce Campbell's Ash.🤣
That scene where everything is laughing is probably the best thing I've ever seen.
Yeah, and it starts out with him lunging out of the mirror to choke himself, then camera pans out and he's...choking himself. So damn creepy
Saw it in the theater when I was about 12. Yes I'm that old, but man I feel lucky I got to experience that.
My favorite line: "Who's laughing now?"
Comment about "Rosebud" distribution.
Rosebud can also be a euphemism for a**hole so "rosebud releasing" may be a joke in and of itself
And this is correct if I am not mistaken, Sam Raimi made homage to Citizen Kane and the term Rosebud uses as a mystery and all was looking for a rosebud etc, but it was a sled named rosebud all along.
Minty showed L7 how to pretend that they're dead just like their weird Uncle Fred
I still can't see clips of the Evil Dead movies without the Foo Fighters' Everlong playing in my head.
I think I belong to the minority that prefer the OG Evil Dead.
Evild Dead 2, which is kind of a remake of OG movie, is a little bit too bonkers and somewhat theatrical for my taste :)
Still a good movie for sure!
I think The Evil Dead is the better movie, just as I think Mad Max is better then Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior. That's just my opinion.
I first saw AOD, and loved it. Then I watched ED, having remembered seeing the box in video stores. I was NOT prepared for how brutal it was, cause I didn't watch many horror movies as a kid.
@@pauljoyner4338 I think plenty people agree with you. Most people prefer the originals.... It's actually more rare when people like the sequel better. For instance, I'm the only person I know that likes Creepshow 2 better than the original. (I think that's because I watched 2 first when I was a child).
I've always been under the impression that The Evil Dead and it's sequel, are two separate stories. Awesome video, my good man! You have gained a subscriber.
This movie is so goddamn perfect.
I saw the original Evil Dead when I was, maybe, 5 years old. I snuck out of my bedroom and hid behind the couch as the babysitter watched it.
I had nightmares for weeks after that, but I was absolutely hooked.
Naturally, I watched Evil Dead 2 as soon as I was able. Loved it.
Army of Darkness was a shoe in for me.
I've been a Bruce Campbell fanboy ever since. Most of my friends don't get it. I'm perfectly okay with that. It makes my Fandom seem more.... exclusive.

I like adding the Work Shed line into Lucky McKee's The Woods, towards the end of the film when Bruce Campbell finds the Axe.
You missed a trick by not using Deicide "Dead By Dawn" as the intro music on this one...
Or "Chainsaw For A Hand" by Covered In Spiders.
I graduated High school in 1989 and I can remember a kid in my class saying if you want to watch something crazy, weird then watch Evil Dead 1 and Evil Dead 2 back to back. So the nxt weekend I went out to Block Buster to rent them and what a crazy ride it was!!I even liked Army of Darkness!!I consider myself a true Evil Dead fan!! Long Live Ash!!
Sweet looking forward to this just started watching it 🤟💀🤟💀
Great timing. I just showed these to my dad and he had fun and likes watching your videos after seeing the movies.
WORKSHED
"work shed" was a thought by Ash not something he said verbally out loud.
I loved the Army of Darkness. I'm not a horror fan but this introduced me to Bruce Campbell.. Huge fan ever since..
I read that the work shed was deliberately used as the location of incriminating evidence in "Gone Girl" as an author's nod to ED2.
I learned nothing new from this but that's on me being a Bruce Campbell super fan. This was an entertaining and fun video. Still loving your work Minty, keep it up mate!
I played Scotty in a Port Huron Michigan theatrical play of the Evil Dead the Musical. I gotta tell you it was fun as hell!
A true horror comedy classic. Sam, Bruce and that crew did a truly outstanding job
Thank you Minty for all your excellent content throughout the years! Your videos are always part of my collection of downloads when I go on road trips! Keep it up man! 👍🏽🙏🏽
I watch this film weekly. The deer head still cracks me the f up.
Being a huge horror kid growing up, I would see the original THE EVIL DEAD on an earlier limited release midnight showing one Halloween night, my best buddy and I were both blown away. A short time later in college here in Massachusetts I would lend my own talents
freelance(animation, acting, etc.)for my teachers’/friends’ very popular Boston animation studio(known for many of their classic Mtv/Vh1 bumpers, music videos, fx, among other things, etc.). :(
Minty, stellar work as usual, one of the BEST review channels out here!!! And a Happy ROCKtober from The Witch City U.S.A.!
Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness were go-to movies in college for a night of drinking and movie-watching. They're also movies with a fount of quotes!
Thanks, Minty! "Evil Dead 2" is one of my favorite horror movies!
The Evil Dead 2 is one of my all time favourite movies. There was a time in the '80's when my friends and I would watch it at least once a month, we could quote the dialogue along with the cast and had a great time.
Thanks, man.Love the "Evil Dead" I and II movies since 1989 till the day i die,but never knew about King's participation.
I'd say, I really liked this part, or that part, and people would say, "That's in the second one."
Long story, etc...
The German poster looks like the skull is in moonlight! I love it!
Love the Road Warrior analogy Minty! 2 was definately a move in the best possible direction ^^
9:02 I never noticed that before! Thank you.
The fact bruce campbell did most of his own stunts makes the movie that much better. The things raimi put him through literally makes him a legend
My old man was not into horror movies but 13 years old me convince him to watch it and he find it quiet funny and entertaining, it's a good memory as I didn't have so much like this as he passed away few years after.
Awesome thanks for covering my favourite Evil Dead movie of all time Minty! Evil Dead 2 is absolutely epic You sir are outstanding!😎👍👍👍
One Of My Favorite Horror Sequels Ever Made, Cool Video Minty, Keep Up The Good Work, Take Care And Stay Safe
