i’ve seen these episodes over and over and they still make me emotional. rue as blanche is such an incredible performance. the way she plays the character is truly a masterclass in acting
Some may sympathize with Virginia. Don't get me wrong, Virginia brought out some valid points with Blanche, but I always felt that Big Daddy didn't make a big deal about his health because he realized how happy Blanche was being honored as Queen of the Ball. He didn't want to taint Blanche's happiness with his sad news. I think Virginia was jealous because, in many ways, Blanche might've been Big Daddy's favorite since they are both so much alike. Both Big Daddy and Blanche are pleasure seekers. Big Daddy would always put Blanche's happiness above himself. Anyways, these are my thoughts.💖 I agree that this episode is among the saddest. But wait until you watch "Ebbtide's Revenge." You'll bawl like a baby.😭
I agree; while both Virginia and Blanche have suffered a loss and are speaking through grief, I'd have to side with Blanche on this one. Big Daddy never made it clear to her how sick he was, and Blanche did promise to see him the following weekend. If anything, Big Daddy probably assumed he'd last until then. I believe had he come out and told Blanche how bad he was feeling, she would have flown to him in an instant. What's really sad about Blanche and Virginia's fight here is that they never reconcile, or at least we're never shown it. I would have liked to have seen that. In fact, Big Daddy's funeral would have been an opportune time for the entire Hollingsworth family to be present: Charmaine, the eldest daughter; Blanche, the middle daughter; Virginia, the youngest daughter; Clayton, the only son (unless you count Blanche's other brother, except that character hadn't been created until "Golden Palace"); Clayton's husband; Lucy (whom I presume to be Virginia's daughter); Big Daddy's second wife (whose name I've forgotten) There also could have been Blanche's children and grandchildren in attendance, but that might be too many characters, not unless they're simply around as non-speaking parts.
@@jamesa.romano8500 you know that is true. The writers must have forgot that Blanche tried to be there for Virginia when she tried giving her kidney to Virginia but this show had a lot of writing errors. And a good question. Where were the rest of the siblings for the funeral?
I love how the later seasons give Blanche more and more of the sentimental moments. Rue McClanahan was a phenomenal actoress truly in a league of her own. I don't know if the Blanche episodes hit me harder or the Sophia episodes. You'll know the episode that hits hardest for me when we come to it. Much love to you Alexxa. Thank you for being a friend ❤
You might have missed the joke when Dorothy answers the phone and hands it to Blanch. She says "its for you Leonna" aka Hemsley. Who was found guilty of real estate fraud.
Leona refers to Leona Helmsley...the "Queen of Mean" of New York City's society and hotel industry...she was big in the 80's for saying, "Only the little people pay taxes."
it's so sad when Blanche says: 'I'm nobody's little girl anymore.' 😢
Absolutely 😢

I love how gracious you were regarding Sophia, calling her entrepreneur; let's be real, she a hustla!!
I always like when they have two stories in one episode. Rose and Sophie together are hilarious!
This was a very touching episode. Rue did a great job, but she was always very good in the dramatic scenes.
Wonderful reaction. ❤❤😂😂 Golden Girls always find humor in saddest scenarios.
You've already seen Virginia in season 1 episode 4 "The Transplant"

I know it's just the grief talking but doesn't Blanche's agreeing to give Virginia her kidney count for anything? lol

All of the episodes with losses are so heartbreaking😢... I've watched these episodes hundreds of times, but i still get teared up...
I was crying right along with you ❤

top notch acting. very rare these days

Love this episode ❤

Home improvement has an episode where Jill dad dies not long after he asks to see her
Yes, saw that just recently. She lies and says she's sick... Great episode and acting too.
The older I get living in another state from my parents this is my worst nightmare
What did you say at 4:09. I couldn’t understand it
I said... "please tell me that... (I was going to say please tell me that he didn't die) did he die?" 😊
