Is this test AC or DC. Important to know when taken voltage readings?

Is there a way to test the strips without them being connected to a power source. In other words, if I take the strip out of the package and want to be sure they are working, can I hook a multitester up to the lead wires and verify functionality?

+John Ciribassi Hi there, thanks for watching our videos.
You can test each LED housing for continuity, however, the easiest and fastest way to test the strip is to simply hook it up to a 12 or 24 volt power source depending on the input required by the strip.

Cant see a damn thing. Where did you put the probes?! And the strips I'm testing dont have a + and - sign so how would I know what those are?

+Cjay Elisbeth Hi there Cjay, thanks for watching our videos!
The probes touch the copper contact points, one goes to the positive point and the other to the negative. It does not matter if your lights don't have the signs printed on it, you can still put the probes on the points and if it does not work the first time, switch them around. This will not damage anything.

Didn't help me at all! You failed to show what to set the meter to and it's so out of focus I can't read the setting....!!! I can see by the other questions and your answers you're not one of life's natural teachers.
