      Probably varies by ship.
      Support ships in-federation allow them, exploration ships know what sort of insane nutcasery ground crews can pick up, and thus disallow them for safety purposes.

    • @kdrapertrucker

      Why wouldn't they? Clothing for exploration tends to have lots of pockets, especially large cargo pockets for things you need while out in the wild.

    • @danieljames1868
      @danieljames1868 11 месяцев назад +8

       @kdrapertrucker Things starfleet officers need in the wild, they can replicate up a bag or belt holster or something to take it with them. Things starfleet officers bring back from the wild, they can put in a clearly labeled pouch or bag, so that if something goes wonky they know what it was.
      Starfleet officers finding a cool rock and bringing it back with them has a nonzero chance of being an episode's inciting incident.

      As the other guy said, there are actual planets with hostile weather like that.
      IIRC, Uranus also has diamond rain, but it's a gas giant so in between the difficulty of getting close and getting back out you also have to deal with winds that make a Cat 5 look like a still day.
      Not to mention places where the surface temperature is in the high hundreds (celcius, farenheit, take your pick really) but due to pressure and atmospheric conditions it's actually a snow-covered wasteland.
      Planets are scary when they don't have stable orbits and magnetospheres.

      Because it's probably how they call to a strong "wine" alcoholic drink. I mean, in Spain we have a drink called "Sangría" (bleeding) because it kind of resembles blood in a way? Though it's just red wine tempered with soda.
