Just for bringing home some money. Being beaten and pulled into wars for glory and wealth of others. On a sunny day, with storms and drowning comrades behind, the sailors sung this song with the island or even home at the horizon. MKev I agree on your comment mate. When I played AC 4, I realized how sad and hollow a pirate's life used to be. It was enough to see how Edward Kenway's story ended in the game to understand that. All his friends and family were gone one by one until he ended up being alone. He saw two of his best friends die (Blackbeard and Mary) and he had to kill another one.
