Thank you for taking the time to make the video Greg. I would like to tour the U boat in Chicago. I read a book about how it was captured that was written by a surviving German. My father flew B-24 bombers in WW ll and did submarine patrol off Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Florida where there was heavy U boat activity during the war. My wife and I went to Cuba and Puerto Rico in November and had a great time.
Apparently the captain of the u505 in Chicago and the captain of the ship that captured it became friends after the war. The whole story about what happened and the thoughts of submarine warfare are pretty intense when you can put yourself on the boat itself. There is very little room on it and obviously no visibility when under water. Crazy stuff lol.
Wow that sucks , I remember you were pretty sick this time of the year last year so I’m glad you are feeling better and you are back at the teaching lectern. Can’t wait for the submarine trip. I don’t know how those guys did it especially on the old small ones. I would get so claustrophobic but have always wanted to see what they are really like. You were born to be a welding educator so I know whatever road you are starting down you are going to be amazing at it. Hopefully there will still be some time for us free loaders of your time out here. But if not we are all far more knowledgeable than before you came along. So thanks again
The German u boat had very little room to say the least. I am 6’6” and it was very tight. The American sub was far easier to navigate with way more headroom lol.
Lot of stuff to look forward to!! Much appreciation for the work you put into all this, your teachings and testing has been real beneficial in my littke shop ;)
Request: Bronze brazing in a strength test. The reason is that it fills a gap in the home shop if you have mig and oxy/acetylene but not tig or stick. It's also a easy process.
I had a caravelle cuddy cabin that had busted exhaust manifolds and they were gonna be about 1800 bucks to replace. Being cheap and enjoying fixing stuff myself, I went to a buddy's dad's shop and brazed the cracks in the cast. Being the first time, I had some leaks lol. They were not fun to get off or on so I just scratched my new paint off and jb welded the 5 or 6 pinholes as a longshot. To my amazement, it held up fine for the 3 years I had it. I only tried that for a temp fix because of the 4hr change out time and I wouldn't recommend it but in a pinch, it might just work, or work just long enough.
Good to hear you are feeling better. Looking forward to the next videos. I also want to report that I started concentrating on practicing with 7018, as you suggested, and I am now getting peeler welds a good proportion of the time (even on fillets)! Practicing with different rods was causing confusion, had to focus. Thanks again for your teaching videos!
No problem and I am glad to hear that. You bring up an interesting point that I don’t really think of and definately need to cover, and that is focusing on one thing at a time. Stick rods run so differently that trying to get good at a bunch of them at once will be far harder than just sticking with one and getting really good with it. Ultimately 7018 is so useful I really think everyone who wants to stick weld should get good with it. Definitely focus on getting really good with it and you won’t regret it 😀👍.
JB Weld is more like a solder or low tensile braze…we used it for repair on oil pressure switch housing on VW air cooled engines that were being hopped up to 250 hp…it did a good job, especially since we did not have tig ability in late 70’s
actually glue is taking over welding in more places , but as said further up , tig brazing would be an interesting candidate for a video. good luck with you health , take care.
Hey Greg, glad you are feeling better, look forward to more videos especially the WW2 boats. Hey I was wondering why I started seeing so many mail delivery trucks with "Will Weld For Tocos" stickers on their rear bumpers. Coincidence?
Haha just wait until you see the video. I tried to make a short weld with a 1/16th stick rod on 3/8th plate and the results were absolutely terrible 😅.
I've never had any success with JB Weld or Super Glue. I put them at the same level for quality. It just seems like you are trying to pass your problem onto the next person, which will probably be me. Thanks
I'm sure by the time you read the comments on this video you will already be done with the JB Weld video. If it was a total flop and you need some extra ideas, maybe do some tests using it like a glue or testing it in tension instead of just bend or shear. As of typing this, we have not yet seen what you came up with so maybe you did all of these things already. Take care and rest up all you need to so you feel better. No fun being sick
I finished the initial testing but will likely do some more. I have a feeling in a lap weld situation where plates overlap by an inch or more I bet it would hold up pretty well, especially on thinner material.

Wish you will get fully recovered, Greg, please be careful with your health! Thank you for doing all this content for us.
No problem 😀👍

Glad to hear that 😀👍. It’s all about passing knowledge and getting people motivated to build cool stuff 😀

I’m also interested in a brass bronze and silicon bronze video.
Hello Mr Greg, glad you’re back!
Yep, it has done some wild repairs and worked for sure. 100% need some around the shop just in case lol.

@ Thanks!
Looking forward to the upcoming videos.
haha, JB weld! I vote for the 5 min video!
Outstanding Greg…Paul in Orlando
Thx for the video, Greg!

It definitely can fix some stuff that would otherwise decommission something.
Glad you are feeling better glad you working on other videos
Very much looking forward to the submarine video.
I wish everyone had the chance to check them out in person, they are awesome.
LMAO "JB weld is an insult to welding" not wrong but still very funny.❤😅😂
I have often wondered just how strong that stuff is. Looks like I'm about to find out. Thanks.
It’s stronger than I expected, I can’t wait to finish editing the video 😀
Way to go greg , get well soon 😎👍👍
This guy is so awesome. I feel he has another more important thing he should be doing but not sure what it is.
I always have things I should be doing, but I rather be making stuff or doing experiments that are borderline dangerous 😅.

good luck with you health , take care.
Even used in Private aircraft repair and builds for the last 30 years or so…
Good man, keep well and only make videos if you are fit enough to do so young man.
Hey Greg, glad you are feeling better, look forward to more videos especially the WW2 boats. Hey I was wondering why I started seeing so many mail delivery trucks with "Will Weld For Tocos" stickers on their rear bumpers. Coincidence?
Haha i would laugh if i found someone with the stickers. Not sure what the post office worker would be doing with them 😅.
My welding is so bad it's an insult to J-B Weld!
Haha just wait until you see the video. I tried to make a short weld with a 1/16th stick rod on 3/8th plate and the results were absolutely terrible 😅.
A good youTube channel for WW2 military vehicles is Mr. Hewes.
I will have to check it out 👍
I was expecting the video to end with you dropping the plate on the floor and watching it break
In the test video I am editing I do drop them on the off chance they will break 😀.

It's th New Pres........ Making everY1 I'll...........
Dude, the Germans used jb weld & migrants to build their u-boats. That's why they lost.
