  • In today's video I will show you how I clean and sharpen my pinking shears. I use a knife sharpener and a little machine oil and it has worked well for me. I have tried the aluminum foil hack but do not get as good results as I do using the knife sharpener. I hope you find this sewing hack helpful. #pinkingshears #fridaysews #sewingtipsandtricks

    😊 About My Sewing Journey:
I started this sewing journey three years ago (2017). In the last two years I have lost more than 25 pounds through intermittent fasting. I am more determined now to sew clothes that fit well. Clothes that fit my lifestyle and that I know I will wear. I am also challenging my sewing skill this year with a few fun wardrobe pieces and as I go along. If you are a beginner to sewing or returning after a long time, some of the patterns in this video may challenge your skill. Some will gently refresh your sewing skill and make you feel accomplished! I hope that my channel inspires you to join me on this sewing journey.
I have been intermittent fasting since October 2018. I have lost over 25 pounds and 3 dress sizes. I started intermittent fasting to gain control over my Type 2 Diabetes. I am no longer Diabetic. I fast 20 hours most days and loosen up more on the weekends to enjoy special occasions with family and friends. Intermittent Fasting is flexible and doable. I will be adding more about my intermittent fasting journey in future videos.

Oh my gosh, that is freaking amazing! I sharpened five pairs of pinking shears in less than five minutes. Several of them hadn’t been used for years, they were so dull! Thank you so, so much!

It's called a (knife) honing steel. Never used mine because I let me knives get too dull before sharpening them. Here's what it does (from the internet): What is the purpose of a honing steel? Unlike sharpening, honing doesn't remove any metal fibers. Instead, the friction caused by running your blade along the surface of a honing steel helps straighten and align metal fibers on the knife's edge that get bent during the cutting process. Without honing, your knife's edge will quickly become dull. Anyway, I never thought about using this for any other purpose than on knife blades. My pinking shears could use some TLC. Definitely could use some machine oil at the blade joint. Thanks for the tip, Carmen!!! You saved me from buying a new pair of pinking shears. 🥰

Terrific video! I have a pair of shears from my grandmother - they’re roughly 80 years old. They made a great decoration in my sewing room. I have two other pair of pinking shears that were in need of sharpening. I found your video and it worked! I was able to sharpen my grandmother’s shears!! What a great idea!

I followed your instruction and the pinking scissors came out great. I did cheat by using too much oil and having to thoroughly wash the scissors after exercising and honing them flat. There was so much oil on them, I used an old mechanics' trick of heating the scissors thoroughly in boiling water and then taking them out of the water, shaking them dry. (The heat in the metal causes the water to evaporate very quickly and I wouldn't do this if I did not have access to highly pure water.

Oh, Carmen, thanks for this! I’m scatter brained (which will be part of the name of my RUclips channel if I ever start one) and I have contemplated using WD40 and even my dog clipper oil. Why haven’t I thought of sewing machine oil? Duh 😮
Have a happy sewing weekend if that’s in your plans. 😘

Thank you 🥳🙌👍👊❤. I inherited an 80 year-ish pair of blunt to the point of rudeness pinking shears. They stayed unused in the scissor drawer for at least 15 yrs until about 10 minutes ago. Part of me is grrrrring it was so quick and simple, the other half knows I'll still use the overlocker first but nice to know they are ready for action should the need arise and need never be blunt again during my lifetime. Though I suspect, considering their heavyduty quality, they'll outlast me 😁. Genuinely impressed at how sharp they are. Cheers and kind regards. I was actually looking up sharpening chainsaws...go figure algorithms!?😅

Is there any other sort of oil I can use? Olive oil or coconut oil? I don't have machine oil and all the small haberdashery shops near me have shut down. The big chains pushed them out.

TUDaH RBaH (thank you very much, in Hebrew). // SHLM & HaB (peace & love). The Name of the Creator is Hayah asher Hayah, as what He told Moshah (Exodus 3:14), preserved in the Hebrew Scriptures. There is a curse to the G-o-d name (Isaiah 65:11-12), preserved in the Hebrew Scriptures. All followers of the Messiah are to do the 7 appointed times (Leviticus 23), but no more animal sacrifices, following the Crucifixion of the Messiah. We are now of the order of MLK TSDQ (King, righteous), to Whom ABRaHM tithed. Ask the Messiah to be your personal Savior. He said to him, I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me (John 14:6). ...for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of Hayah (Romans 3:23). The wages for sin is death but the gift of ALaHYM is Everlasting Life through Messiah Yahushgh our Master (Romans 6:23). That if you confess with your mouth the Master Yahushgh and believe in your heart that ALaHYM raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved (Romans 10:9). He Himself is an Atoning Offering for our sins, and not for ours only but also for all the world (1 John 2:2).
