Tess, the strength of the rear end gears comes from the relationship between the ring and pinion. That's why even the newer aftermarket, 9" rear ends are pushing 10"+.. the other big plus for Ford 9" is the pinion support bearing inside the housing, it provides support to the gear end of the pinion and doesn't allow the pinion to "walk" up the ring gear on hard acceleration. Don't know too much about the 8.8, but as far as I know no other rear end is built this way. The best of both worlds is the aftermarket 609. It's a Dana 60 housing(full floating axles) and a 9" third member. This allows you to change gears without jacking, and remove the third member and replace with another with a different gear ratio. Tess science has proven through aerodynamiks that the Maverick will go faster and shift better when it is painted.
Fix the seat, the backrest moving around to much. Makes it harder to get the gearshift to work. Great video!!!

the 8.8 i ran in my NMRA hot street car was almost identical to yours i had mid south racecars axle tube braces intead of teamZ. Skinny Kid narrowed my housing with 9" big bearing ends and i ran Wilwood disc brakes too. i used a motorsport diff girdle\cover👍

Love the spool in a 'street' car - I like the tires talking on low speed tight turns (parking lots etc.)

I used a mini spool in an 8 inch with stock 1964 axles for over a decade on the street. Manual steering and a spool sucks in parking lots but it builds character lol.

That 1-2 shift still looks a little funky, the 4:30s should pay some dividends at the track. Overall looks and sounds good.

what kind of suspension do you use in the rear, differential is a dana 44 and what is the name of the caltrack, I am Brazilian and I have a ford maverick, how many inches are these rear wheels. I love the videos they are perfect.

That motor sounds good and I know you haven't put a big tune in yet.
I would have probably put a little more preload on the carrier bearings if you can put the carrier in by hand probably needs a little more preload
Maybe try a different shift lever, something that suits your position better🇺🇸👍

Tess you never seize to amaze me the fact that you jumped in and changed out you gears is impressive to say the least and with Tony's knowledge your skill set is limited to what you willing to learn. Your most definitely right there's no better feeling than to be ripping gears,keep up the never give up mentality and you will reap the rewards in life and racing you two make a awesome team/couple.

I have put an ass betting on some 8.8 ford rears in mud trucks drag cars street cars and the violence my craziness puts out when I am having fun has blown gm 10 bolts 12 bolts 14 bolts sterlings Dana 44s and every jeep axle made and I have broke a 1/4 of the ford 8.8s compared to 3/4s of the rest so I love them
I’ll stand by well built 8.8 any day, unless you’re making 2,000hp or more. Then maybe a 9” at that point.

Usually it’s recommended to heat cycle new gears a couple times before hammering them but…
4.56 would have been better unless you were afraid it’ll run out of rpm up top?
It goes through the lone in the quarter at about 7300 with the 4.30s. I wouldn’t be able to run the 4.56s out the back

It’s fine on the street! Might just wear out tires a little quicker, but I don’t notice any issues.

hope you guys are using the Ford Fiction Modifier oil additive with your gear oil. Tess I noticed, you some times go into nutural but keep you foot pushed down on the clutch padel ? I go to nutural with my foot off the padel. I push & hold the padel down, as little as I have to ride the throw out bearing. The Car is running Great. a 10 street Car, is pretty damn Good !!
Personally i would ditch the 8.8 for a 9".

I've noticed you take your foot off the gas pedal completely when shifting. Try not to and just lift slightly. Your clutch foot is off the clutch completely before your go foot is hitting the gas. Shorter distance equals quicker shifts. Just my 2 cents.
It's called granyshifting when lifting on the shift. After you leave the line keep the gas pedal to the floor pop the clutch pedal when shifting. When you granyshift you are loading and unloading the rear suspension. You will break more parts. The only time to granyshift is if the synchronizes in the transmission can't keep up.Quicker ET speedshifting. Good Luck.

Tess do you think having a taller shifter would help it looks like you are reaching forward when shifting even if you have to cut and modified the one you have better choice in gears RPM's come on faster and stay up . I like the 9 in rears , multi gear setups and fast changing too. I use to shorten them and put back braces on too , I'd pull them out of full size Ford and Mercury cheaper to build that way good luck you 2 are fun to watch when you get with the gang in Ohio .
