Well done Tess I have to say that I'm impressed after making 10 to 12 hits that clutch didn't look that bad and It's understandable why the pressure plate looks like that. The pup's have to always verify the quality of the work and parts. God bless and as always be safe 👍

Tess and Tony, Have you tried a sintered iron disc with a 3 finger Borg Beck style pressure plate. I use a Ram Red Hat pressure plate , sintered iron disc on a Aluminum flywheel with a steel insert clutch face. My race car is a 3000 lb 56 chevy vintage C/Gas car . I do a 4th gear burnout in the water and leave the starting line at 8500. I use this clutch setup for the entire season. Perhaps the diaphragm pressure plate just is not enough clamping power

Good work Tess,, and Tony :) I looked thru uite a few pots to see if anyone else mentioned it,, did not see any so I will say it. Damn I wish you guys would wear SAFETY GLASSES when you're under your Maverick,, really we do. All it would take is just one of those trans bolts fall out of the socket - it would have hit your eye straight on. When Tony was pulling the trans,, one little bit of debris could have hit him directly in the eye. Makes little matter you would have closed your eyelid,, something heavy enough could have damaged the eyeball itself. PLEASE kids,, (I can call you kids 'cause I'm 76 years young) be SMART,, WEAR YOUR PPE.

I'm not trying to tell you guys what to do by any means, but a few tips that have made us successful. Have you or Tony check the air gap on the disk by any chance. See what ACT recommends their air gap to be close to. Usually, most manufacturers are around .50 to .60 thousands. Having the proper air gap will make sure the disk is wearing evenly with the flywheel and pressure plate. The next thing a lot of people don't consider is when your in cool down process, move a fan under your bellhousing pointed through the fork opening and get some cooler air flow going through there to help cool the clutch down in between runs. Make sure there is plenty of water down for all your burnouts. Doing dry burnouts will smoke the clutch. When you launch and feel the clutch slipping, get out of it instead of mowing through the clutch. Just little things I'm sure you know, but as a reminder. Reach out if you guys need any help! I also have a badass short throw shifter for your Tremec TKX if your interested.

Good to see Dawg 1 and 2 supervising!
I said it last time, I'll say it again - they gave you a relined disk & reground flywheel Again?
    This isn't a daily driver, it's a race car.
I will give them cred for the new hat, but they should have done you ever better this time, when the reground hat and relined disk didn't live last time.
I can't believe their tech dept. didn't get in on this right up front.
THEY should have set you up right the first time - I worked with the tech depts on all my race stuff right up front - when I'd tell them exactly what I had, what I'd built and so on they'd step right up and
offer top notch guidance on THEIR parts.
I built cars for 'similar use' to this and others, circle track stuff - both short track and NASCAR truck series stuff - and I got good help on all.
Not that I didn't go off on my own on some parts I had made, cams ground to my specs, pistons made to my designs, titanium valves the same way - and THEIR tech people were right there.
I'd be disappointed in that clutch company.

We work with ACT because they have great customer service and listen to what we want for a clutch. This isn’t a race car, it’s a daily. We tell them what clutch material and base pressure we want and they build it. It is our choice to run a full face organic and we don’t want too much base pressure, they would suggest more base pressure and a cera-metallic disc material, but that’s not what we wanted. We were wrong to run a 2400lb pressure plate, but with all the R&D that Tony has with the mare, he thought it would be enough. Unfortunately, my car is 600lbs heavier, so it needed a little more pressure, we found out the hard way. At the end of the day, I’ve only been through two clutches, and each one has put up with a lot of abuse.

I noticed when my pedal stuck to floor. Was always after a high-speed disengagement. I had to pull pedal back with my foot. I went with a dbl clutch disk. Worked out for my 04 cobra's situation

    • @young11984
      @young11984 Год назад

Pedal sticking to the floor is usually caused by to long of a throw causing the fingers to over center on the pressure plate and centrifugal force keeps it off the disc, less pedal movement eliminates that as the PP only needs very minimal gap to release and allow free shifting. If you had very little free travel then its a good indication it was over centering the PP and wasted time/effort for a shift

Hi Tess and Tony! Just wanted to ask: I saw you wiping the flywheel with (I assume) Brakleen. But then you installed it. With the cuts, I didn't see if you wiped it again before putting the pressure plate on. The natural oils in your skin will cause less of a friction surface where you handled it. This can cause slippage in those areas. I'm sure Tony also knows this, but in your haste I thought it might have been overlooked.
Even the powder from rubber gloves can cause the same problem. Anyway, just asking, for those who may not know....

    • @MissMidnightMaverick
