The Walmart I used to work at had a fire alarm system sounding just like that. It was an addressable Fire-Lite MS-9600UDLS system, with SpectrAlert Advance horn/strobes on Code-3. I remember in the storeroom/receiving/maintenance area, it sure was loud and obnoxious, but in the break room it wasn't as bad, even with a horn/strobe installed right in there (maybe it was set on "low" volume?)
They don't do drills per se Emilio Melendez they will however, do tests every so often. Usually the alarm company will have an employee get on the PA and say something like "Attention Walmart customers and associates! We are conducting a sprinkler and fire alarm test, please disregard any fire alarms heard until further notice. We apologize for the inconvenience. THIS IS ONLY A TEST!"
They have to considering the walls in a freezer are a few feet thick in some instances. Cell phones don't always get reception in their either. They were probably installed to make sure that anyone in the freezer is able to hear it should the system go off.
that valve you see me open is supposed to simulate 1 sprinkler head open. When you have just 1 head open, that's about the amount of water that would be coming out. when you see people testing and more water comes out, they are using a normal valve to open it all the way. this new valve actually tests to make sure the flow switch activate with low flow within the allotted time. if you turn the valve on full blast, more water is flowing so the sprinkler flow would activate quicker.
We have the very same unit that was, installed last year at Lowes Foods in Garner, NC. Let me tell you, it's fing loud that it rips everyone elses ears off including mine. Not only that, but it scares the living hell out of my co-workers too as well. We've had our yearly fire alarm testing almost 3 weeks ago on a Thursday morning, the technician guys were there (very kind lads) that took their time to understand my Autism Aspburger disability. To tell you the truth, I couldn't always handle any loud certain noises like the big fire alarm systems. I'm a 40 year old woman with a disability, it's very hard for me to work with loud noises etc. I can handle a smoke detector so, that's not a problem me! Anyways, great work on your video!!!!!! No.. If you pause the video at 0:36 that clearly the green LED means that the security system is ready to arm. And that green display on a white housing thats the ADT/honeywell/ademco 6160/6160v security keypad not a fire alarm keypad. Now the ann-80 has a red housing and its clearly visible toward the end
in 3rd and 4th grade, my school's fire alarm sounded like that, it gave me anxiety every single day and i would constantly hold my fingers in my ears all day long. I don't get how other kids at school didn't get bothered by it -_-.
My aldi looks just like that one, but it only has 1 system sensor spectralert advance, which is right next to the fire alarm annunciator where the cashiers are. And the freezer area has 6" bells, odd because my aldi isn't that old.
I went to an Aldi today on Wednesday February 1st 2023 and they had the same alarms but they're in all white and the system is Bosch Radionics with Bosch T-Bar pull stations and one Fire-Lite BG-12L pull station
It's a good thing that the SpectrAlert Advances is the freezer are weatherproof versions so they can survive In temperature conditions from -40°F to 150°F
I test the sprinkler system at Sainsbury’s (big supermarket) every week and it takes 2-3 minutes of water flow for the alarm to go off. The test valve is only opened half way, not to the full drain, so that might be why it takes so long for the alarm.
Nice system. Wow, this looks like a newer ALDI. The ones in and near my town are a lot smaller than this. By any chance, is this one located in Rockford, IL? I saw one that looked a lot bigger in Rockford last time we went out to visit family, although I didn't go inside to check it out.
+msj191961 You can tell this is a new ALDI, because all of the new buildings for some reason have the loudest fire alarms that dont need to even be that loud. They could just stick with a 4903 system...
The model of the ceiling mount spectalert adavence is pc2r and the ceiling mount remote strobe model is scr and the freezer room the model of the spectalert adavence with a weather proof back box is pc2rk
If a sprinkler somewhere in the building activated in response to a fire, water would flow in the sprinkler system. Thus when a "waterflow" detector activates, the fire alarm panel reads this as a sprinkler has activated to suppress a fire somewhere in the building.
System sensor notification appliances are cheaper, more reliable, and easier to install than Simplex though. Simplex true alerts tend to have horn inductors that fail and they require a special junction box from simplex. However, you can mount simplex, EST, and Wheelock notification appliances in a standard junction box.
Can you put a mechanical horn on a addressable panel i all ways wondered if you can put 2903s 9838s 9833s 4903 9102s or 4903 9215 and other 90s/80s and 70s devices on addressable panels
You can use mechanical horns on an adressable panel. Just male sure the panel doesn't output FWR otherwise the horns will sound raspy, a good adressable panel to use mechanical horns is the Fire-Lite MS-9600UDLS System as it outputs filtered DC
Just a short question, do you know what type of fire alarm sounds two whoops between the horns? We had one in my old elementary school in the main hall. It was there when I left, which was 2012, I'm sure.
There is really no difference. They can be more visible and or people have pictures or something on the wall that they don't want a fire alarm to mess up.
The drain is actually a test cock, that triggers the alarm after water flow is detected. Or can also be used to drain the system down when performing maintenance, but most sprinkler systems remain charged ready for use. As for strobes on the ceiling, this is more common in the US. Not the UK.
Was this alarm test before the the store opened for business hours or was the the store brand new before the grand opening? because there were no customers
Actually, he's opening the valve to simulate the activation of a sprinkler head somewhere in the building. Once a sprinkler deploys or the test valve opens, water flows through the central pipe and activates a waterflow detector that sets off the fire alarm.
When I was in school there is a fire like a real one and it turns out it was just a water leak and they had To pull the fire alarm and they cant just done it over the loudspeaker which is kind of stupid everybody was freaking out and plus it was twice it happened in a a row and is the fire apartment did come why couldn’t they just called the plumber?
They didn't pull it necessarily Sprinkler systems have to maintain a certain pressure if the water pressure drops below a certain level or if there is a leak in the system the flow switch for the fire alarm triggers the system.
He's testing the flow switch for the sprinkler system. The switch has a delay timer (up to 90 seconds) to avoid false alarms from water surges and so on. If you watch in the video once the alarms sound after he goes back inside you can see him turn the test/inspect switch. It's required that once a year the sprinkler systems are checked for pressure and flushed out.
No That is called EAS which stands for Electronic Article Surveillance thats when you walk out and beep this is the Fire alarm to let you know there is an emergency in the building. Everyone needs to evacuate.
My school had wheelock zns and as and i can burp louder than them and in elementary school the 9838s were bad it was so loud due to brick walls and lockers so i had go out before drills and i have a 9840 and it is loud as the spect alert advance lol and that school had it on march time
Since he closed the inspector's test valve, even though the waterflow detector's monitor module would have "latched" into alarm, the alarm would technically not be present anymore, so the system would then be silenceable. That's my guess anyway. Also, it seems like things like nonsilenceable waterflow and selective silence (strobes continue flashing until reset) are becoming slightly less common. I recall one incident in a restaurant with new SpectrAlert Advances where a kitchen sprinkler had activated. Not only was the alarm silenced before the water was shut off, the system was not reset when they let us back in and the strobes were not still flashing.
+sniffsniff16 Freezers tend to have a lot of insulation and even block out cell signals in a lot of cases so he probably put one in there to make sure that people can hear it while they are putting stuff into or taking stuff out of the freezer

Is the purpose of the waterflow zone specifically for that test valve? If not, what would be a real alarm scenario triggered by water flow?
If a sprinkler somewhere in the building activated in response to a fire, water would flow in the sprinkler system. Thus when a "waterflow" detector activates, the fire alarm panel reads this as a sprinkler has activated to suppress a fire somewhere in the building.
Unfortunately, my local Aldi store doesn’t have fire alarms.
