I had the same problem. Water and grime get up the hole at the bottom of the mirror, and fail the Elkab sensor. I searched everywhere and couldnt find a replacement. Mouser and NTE never heard of it. What they sent you is the interior temp sensor, which mounts behind the dash on the back of the three knob panel. I know this because I ordered one of those too. I solved the problem with just putting a resistor in the mirror. 20k gets you about 40 degrees, which will be ok for winter. The point is that if the computer calls up full pressure from the compressor, and it’s 10 degrees outside, the pressures will go crazy high. That’s why it wants to know the putside temp, and that’s why it disables the system when it doesnt. In spring, I’ll put the interior sensor in like you did. I have two 14 promasters, both with over 500,000 miles. Ask me anything, I’m super knowledgeable on these things.
Do you have the part number for the temp sensor that goes in the mirror? My 2015 promaster 1500 118 WB is doing the same thing. AC compressor won't turn on and I have no temp reading on the dash.
Zane Gold Sure dont. Using a generic resistor worked for a while. Eventually, I figured out that I could take the mirror apart, use the behind the dash sensor that rockauto sells (cabin air temp sensor) with some soldering and modifying, and reassemble the mirror. It’s not too tough and it does work. No other solution that I know of, no other source for the correct sensor.
maxam home repair Yes, that’s the one I used. It’s actually used behind the 3 knob control panel, and it measures cabin air temp. It requires some modification to use it in the mirror, but it does work. Basically, you cut off the area around the two pins on the connector socket, solder two wires there, and connect them to the two wires that go to the stock outside air temp sensor. It’s a hassle, but it works.
Thank you very much for your comments, my promaster 2015 does not turn on the control panel or control of the air conditioning controls, must it be because of this damaged sensor? please let me know.
I have a 2016 Dodge Ram 2500 Promaster. The AC doesn't work! Not sure whats the problem but from what I know, the driver side dash, where it shows the outside temperature has no digits. Before when the thermostat showed numbers, the AC would blow COLD air, but now no numbers show on the thermostat, therefore, no COLD air coming out from the AC. The AC button lights up itself, just no COLD air! What would you say the problem is? Im thinking a fuse maybe, not sure if that's the case! The whole AC system works, just no COLD air because of the thermostat showing no digits! Any help from anyone would be great, TIA
sounds like the same problem as the video. Dodge doesn't sell the sensor alone, you've got to replace the whole driver side mirror. A couple of other comments above discuss workarounds, including spoofing the computer with a resistor to make it think it's a particular temperature all of the time, or you can jury rig a different sensor into the mirror with a soldering iron. kipamore - 2 years ago "... I removed the power window switch, accessed the 2 brown wires, cut off the side going to the mirror, and used a 7.2k resistor to tie the 2 brown wires together. The van thinks it is 90 degrees outside and the a/c works. Free fix.
@@DaBeastly6669 I don’t know if you got yours fixed, but I was able to get external ambient temperature sensor, which is white and red and white and light green plug same position of the window switch reading 185 but is working
Does anybody know where can I get a repair service manual for promaster 1500 cargo van. I would like to make my own repairs but I can't find a repair service manual

The one I put in it was not exactly for the ProMaster I think it was for a Dodge Ram truck that I can see if I can look it up

I like how he points to the dash saying “see that” while pointing the camera everywhere but at the dash. Lol
Thank you- body shop assembler here...
Thank you for posting this repair.
You're a life saver.
Thank you for the video. Can put a link for the parts needed to fix the censor. Thanks

Tks for the videos.
I have a 2015 promaster.
Do you know where is the transmission pressure sensor?
Thank you!

what is the part number and where to get it. thank you
Dude hold ur camera where we can see the parts!
Why would the engine temperature sensor be located in the mirror? I think not
I don't know but that's where they put it I was surprised too

I have one, bunch of PDFs. Not sure how to share it.
This was an asshole way to design something
