    I'm very pleased with my LMI. Intake air temps are about the same or less even in the AZ heat. I definitely noticed a performance increase and SC wine is amazing. As for gas mileage, come on man it's a muscle car. I have a couple of classic muscle cars that get 8 to 10 miles a gallon with 300 to 400 less horsepower. If gas mileage is an issue for you get a Prius.:-)

    Air flow is much more important than intake air temps. As soon as you get moving, you’ll have cool air from the hole in the headlight. That intake is much larger and will feed a lot more air than stock. As far as water getting in the intake, that’s what the pre-filter is for. It’s water repellant. Unless you have a hose pointed directly at the filter for a long period of time, you’ll be fine. And lastly as far as the gas mileage goes, I’d bet the majority of your loss in gas mileage is due to a drive style change wanting to hear more of the louder supercharger whine. You may not realize it, but it’s common nature for us car guys. I think you should keep it, but one thing is recommend doing is disconnecting the battery for 10-15 minutes to let things reset and so the ECU will learn the new intake and all the new air it is receiving.

    • @sacredlux6099
      @sacredlux6099 6 лет назад +5

      Parker Smith Even if you do a reset on the computer the program will take it all over a period of time. That has always been my experience with the reset. The Hellcat has to be tune in order to have lasting effects.

    • @Sp-nd6uj
      @Sp-nd6uj 6 лет назад

      Parker Smith Where are you getting your information? The stock intake is capable of flowing near 900cfm. That’s near double the capacity that a stick 6.2 could ever consume.

    • @parkersmith711
      @parkersmith711 6 лет назад +2

      Sp 485 I have no specific experience with the Hellcat, but speaking with the creator/flow engineer of PMAS intakes, he has shown time and time again that air flow outweighs IAT’s. He has shown not only through dyno runs, but also graphs comparing flow to intake temps. Put more in, and you have the capability to get more out. Especially with a tune like stated above. It’s common sense.

    • @Sp-nd6uj
      @Sp-nd6uj 6 лет назад +3

      Parker Smith Again, you will not gain any air flow with any aftermarket set up. Not 1 cfm. The oem equipment is capable of providing way more air than the stok heads could ever flow. There is zero benefit in regards to temps or flows. These things are the biggest and most successful scams in the aftermarket business. Apparently there isn’t anything common about sense.

    • @Oreo_5oh
      @Oreo_5oh 6 лет назад

      Sp 485 I agree. The choke point on a stock system isn’t the air box. It’s the throttle body size and intake manifold design.

    Gas mileage drops afterward because we don't realize we're driving a little livelier after the install. I've gained 1-2 MPG in the long-term with my LMI Hammer. As for IATs, you're right, it does go up slightly but I'd say nothing that impacts performance. As for the water thing, the cover and pre-filter work great.

    Its a great looking intake, love the carbon fiber, but like everyone else mentioned, the filter is not isolated from the engine bay heat. Just like the R2C (?) on your old Scat Pack. Unlike the Scat Pack, you now have a MAF to deal with, which is calibrated to the stock air box’s air flow. If the LMI changes volume and velocity of the air flow around the MAF, could affect mileage and power.

    I spoke to my service adviser at the dealer and he said an intake wont void your warranty as long as it doesn't come with a different sensor, which could mess some things up. Also if some problem ever happens and it leads back to the intake which it never will. I'm definitely getting this intake.

    You should add screens in the headlamp holes where the air goes in. I did a recent install video. Its called D.I.P.S. stands for Direct Inlet Port Screens i believe. Dont want to have debri getting inside and bouncing around hitting components. And it controls how the air goes in

    Love the honesty of your videos. Not 100% sure, but taking the right faux headlight cover off may allow air in the less restricted opening instead of through the radiator as it should. A highly educated engineer didn't design it for no particular reason.

    I Dynoed my hellcat with and without the intake I got 20+ hp so I don’t know what you’re talking about, a lot more Benefits just from the sound

    • @joshreynolds729
      @joshreynolds729 3 года назад +1

      What benefits do you get from the sound? You lost your ram air system and expose it to engine heat. The reason you show a 20hp gain is because the design isn’t bad as far as intakes go and it does shine but here’s the kicker on a dyno your stationary with a fan so regardless stock vs legmaker the better carbon fiber will flow better stationary but take it out in the environment when it hot then you will see iat go up pulling timing because of no shield and this is simply at a stationary point now hauling ass 100+ cold air is being forced into the headlight directly into the box condensing air molecules helping the supercharger but without that inlet you are only getting hot air mixed and not condensed therefore not rendering a true hp result on a dyno because they cannot generate these conditions in a shop with a fan. This is why It sucks. B woody same way. Sounds great but sounds don’t win races science does and that’s why dodge uses this design however dodge engineers don’t have an unlimited pocket so they make things out of plastic and rubber which ends up weighing more but will last a while to. So hope this helped you. The newer hc hood inlet and the head light inlet are used to maximize air flow so if you think dodge isn’t on to something here revamping it once again to add a second ram air your nutz and for you to regress with such an expensive mod that isn’t better than a stock one or an upgraded OEM one not only with 1 inlet but 2 and you wanna just get rid of that because you think it’s better?

    Nice mod video. Luv the extra whine as everyone has mentioned, but if the mod doesn’t increase performance, what’s the point. Glad u made the decision to go back to stock. Hot air intake doesn’t make sense. Surprised that LMI didn’t adapt it better to use the headlight intake and seal it to only grab the cold air from outside and not from the engine compartment. Hopefully you can find a better aftermarket truly cold intake better suited for the Hellcat. Perhaps try a K&N filter with the stock air box. That should increase air , whine and power.

    Great video Riley with really excellent points no one else has made in the reviews i have seen on the cai. i am with you about going back to stock. too many negatives. also, i feel it is ok to mod a car if you are willing to take the trade off with lower reliability and the higher maintenance costs that come with it. Think about it. there is a whole team of engineers at SRT, real experts, putting their heads together to get the most performance out of the car while considering gas mileage and reliability of the car as a whole system. mess with one part of that equation and you introduce the butterfly effect. the mod has a series of affects of on the car as a whole that degrades the balance engineered into the cars systems as designed. i doubt the SRT engineers sat there and said, yeah, this design of intake is much better and is going to have a much better impact to the cars system, but screw, lets go with this one anyway and the owner can put in a good one if he wants. uh, i don't think so.

I wantd a more aggressice sounding supercharger, so I could hear it above the Borla ATAK. Oh, you can hear it, in ALL 6 GEARS. Probably the same reaction you had, to sound. Impressive, but not good enough for a daily driver. I'll have to look at the gauge performance. Less mpg would suck!

    Good choice not using the Legmaker. Put your CAP back in the right side fake headlight. It is possible you will not get good cooling through the radiator openings with that open and pushing air around. The engine bays today now have belly pans so your introducing more airflow that might not be able to escape out the hood vents.

      Detroit Muscle 313 yeah brother don't mess with it. You are positively right about Dodge doing a great job on all of there muscle car line up. Plus why take the risk of losing your warranty 😨

    Yeah I agree with the dission to take it off. The whine is sweet but all the negatives just make it not worth it.

    AFR in the 13s for a boosted car is extremely lean, i highly doubt the hellcat is actually that high like u said lol. Shoot 13s for a na car is lean

      RP Productions looks like u were right, it seems like they run 12.7 usually on an aftermarket afr guage but the oem one shows in the 13s. Odd

      AWDTBSS No matter what though, lean is still lean, even if that’s stock. I’m 14.7 at cruising and idle but 11.0 at WOT.
