I just used the GH5 for a wedding on the weekend and I just have to say how much of a beast it is. Didn’t let me down once and I couldn’t help but smile looking down at the insane footage it was capturing. Love my GH5.
Awesome video gents! Very good points. For anyone finding this later like me I ran some rough current numbers (weight is from b&h) between lenses as these are the 2 systems I'm deciding on for weddings. I'm Australian so prices are AUD. Obviously pros and cons with each Hope it helps! SONY LENS SET: - 16-35mm 2.8 gm 680g $3200 - 70-200mm gm 1480g $3500 - 55mm 1.8 $900 281g - 85mm 1.4 $2300 820g 3261g total weight $9990 total cost OLYMPUS LENS SET: - 7-14mm 2.8 $1350 534g - 25mm 1.2 $1200 410g - 45mm 1.2 $1400 410g - 75mm 1.8 $750 305g 1659g total weight $4700 total cost Also you could get a GH5S and a GH5 for close to what the A7Siii body only will be.
I absolutely love my GH5. Especially as a solo shooter, having unlimited recording time has been amazing! I just press record and know that I will get the shot. Also the customized buttons have been so nice as well. Probably the best camera I have ever owned :)
After watching Scott’s personal channel for awhile I made the switch from Sony to Panasonic and have never looked back! Could not agree more with what he says about the benefits of the gh5/s over Sony. Thanks for sharing guys, love watching.
Panasonic has had a professional video lineup for quite a long time,so I would expect the layout of the GH5 to make a lot of sense.I also have DSLR that has a lot of dials, knobs, buttons, and i do love that, instead of hunting through the menus...
I knew most of what you said about the GH5 but I didn't know that you could dual record backup video to your SD slots! That is huge! Most cameras only let you dual record stills!
I used to use Sony exclusively for video. I had to shoot an event and had no batteries charged, so I had to use my Panasonic. I shot for four straight hours -- and the camera didn't even get warm. Panasonic has been my go to camera ever since....
Just an added note about rack focus on gimbals, I use my gh5 on a Zhiyun Crane 2 which has a focus wheel built in used with a Follow Focus Servo, works great!
Thanks guys for doing such a video. I am a Canon user and don't intend to move; however the info you provided put things in perspective. There are so much fuss around the net that you don't know any more what is what. I use Resolve on a daily basis and interested in the newest 4K BMCC but have never used a MFT before. Again, thanks for the insight. Very helpful. . I didn't realize they removed IBIS on the GH5s.
Just a clarification, the Olympus PRO lenses (including your primes) are still focus-by-wire, even with the manual clutch engaged. They probably have the best focus by wire system I've used, but it isn't true manual focus like the Voigtlanders. My main gripe with the Olympus pro lenses is their short focus throw. I've measured the 12-40, 40-150, and 17mm pro at 100 degrees of focus rotation. The Voigtlander primes are sitting at a whopping 270 degrees of focus throw, and that makes a huge difference for pulling focus when wide open.
Great Video! I film my weddings with the GH4 and GH5, both with the Speedbooster. I mostly dont light anything and the footage is still usable. Yes theres noise but i simply go over it with a specific grade and a bit neat video and you wont notice the low light noise in the shot. all couples were happy and didn't ever mention something about the low light noise
Hi scott hi pablo. i am from india. i am into wedding film making for a couple of years. i am still couldn't find a perfect affordable tripod that goes well with a slider. can you guys do a intensive video on tripods which are good when a slider is attached. Note: budget friendly.
Awesome video guys! great job! Do you have a video on Manual focus for the GH5? If not you should make a video on how to customize that button for auto focus than stays in manual focus at that selected point.
I've shot dozens of weddings with my Sony a6500's... outside... in the heat... for long periods of time. Never overheated. But still, it's on the back of my mind.
I had been going back and forth (religiously) between the a7iii or GH5. Decided on pursuing a GH5. Currently have a G7 and just can't see how you can go wrong with the GH5.
I must also confess to not having used my GH5/GH4 for wedding work, I have used the Sony AX100 & AX53 and previously the Sony EX3 (a back killer). But maybe for a future wedding I might give the GH5 a go. I guess old habits are hard to break.
Very informative video, thank you. I am surprised you are not using any zoom lenses or even Lumix lenses. I have been using the Lumix/Leica 12-60mm lens and have found this to be the sharpest lens I have ever used (even outperforming my collection of Nikon prime lenses).
Your images are beautiful! I own a GH5 and my biggest problem is color correcting footage. Are you guys planning on making a video talking about how you color correct your GH5 footage? Keep it up!
Hi, I've lost the drive mode dial cover of my GH5 and I've been searching online to buy one but apparently could not get myself. Do you know where I could get one?
For sure the Gap between the GH5 and Sony cameras was pretty considerable.... until the a7iii. I think it’s a toss up at this point. I do a ton of gimbal work and really need that low light so for me, it’s Sony. Biggest feature I wish I had (queue a7siii?) is 4K 60. Good video guys!
Great review guys! Subscribed! I was in two minds between the Voigtlander and the Olympus. But I think I'll go for the Olympus Pro (weather sealing is a Must). Why don't you use the 17mm Olympus Pro lense? 25mm or 17mm?🤔 Any insight? Thanks 👍
Awesome video as always! I’m really considering the viltrox speedbooster with a sigma 18-35 but damn that 25mm 1.2 looks awesome aswell! And that focus feature looks really useful!
Excellent video! Can you post some links to previous videos talking specifically about focus technique. (where subject is moving) ex.Bride walking down isle. Thank you!
do I understand correctly that you can have the Olympus lens with the manual clutch on and point autofocus? Can you then directly manual focus from that point without changing anything (clutch etc)?
If you're inside, sure. But it doesn't matter if you're shooting in 1080p or 4k, if it's under direct sunlight... it will overheat. I've had my a7sii shooting in AVCHD (low quality HD) overheat during a 30 minute ceremony even with airplane mode on and overheating limit set to high.
One question. If I am adapting lens to gh5, is the ibis become not good as with native m4/3 lens? For sony seems this way. 5 axis become 3 axis if adpating lens to sony body.
Yes, I owned that lens first and I really liked it. I ended up getting rid of it because the only time I used that focal range was for vlogs and it was too heavy. I feel the 7-14 is too wide for most things.
Hello. Love the video. I love olympus lens too. I have question. Do u use nd filters? Coz i have 7-14 and the lens is too concave and cant put filter unless i buy those actual glass. Do u use filter on ur olympus?
Scott, i switched to sigma/metabones and regret it. LOOOOVEEE ZOOM....but i've had occasional freezes such that i lost footage of a tea ceremony (had backup camera but still)
Thanks for the video. I've been thinking a lot lately about making the switch to the GH5. I love my sony cameras but I'm also tired of making sure they don't overheat. I also hate not having the 4k 60fps option. Do you think the GH5 footage would blend in nice with Sony's footage? I'm trying to see if I can maybe keep my sony camera as a B cam.
Glad it was helpful. You can definitely match Sony with GH5. The key is working on a custom profile for both cameras so that it matches nicely IN camera. Don't wait till post.
Awesome video guys, thanks again. Just out of interest, when you're talking about MFT lenses, why is it that you refer to the equivalent focal length but then don't refer to the equivalent aperture? For example you would always talk about your old panasonic 35-100 2.8 as being a 70-200 2.8 lens, whereas in reality it becomes a 70-200 f5.6 equivalent? I don't fully understand the reasoning there so some clarification would be great! But cheers guys for the great video, always love your content.
F2.8 is always F2.8 regarding light gathering capability but you're asking the crop factor regarding Field of View and Depth of Field. Yes the 35-100 will have the equivalent DOF and FOV of a 70-200 at f5.6.
Just curious, Why do you choose the Olympus over the native Panasonic lenses, one without much knowledge would assume the panasonic would be better calibrated with Autofocus etc.
Aydin Erel I could be wrong but I know for some people the manual clutch is what gets people to the Olympus lenses over the Panasonic’s. Having used them myself it’s definitely a preference imo.
The aperture equivalent of depth of field changes, but not light. Meaning a 1.2 aperture still lets in the proper light of a 1.2 aperture on M4/3, but the depth of field changes.
have you heard about the new full frame sensor camera that they are coming out with? The S series! It's micro-four thirds as well. I'm sure you guys will swap to that.
Hey Scott, looking to make a full upgrade from an old Canon dslr and haven't invested even in many lenses yet so I'm pretty open to any brand. The GH5 is super tempting but do you think to get on that train at this point would be worth it? Especially with the new S1 coming early '19, which is also looking to turn out great for wedding videography.
Guys I really need your help. I can’t decide between the gh5 and gh5s...😩 On the one hand I really need the lowlight of gh5s but then I also wanna shoot stills plus love the IS on gh5!!! So confusing...🤷🏽♂️. I know you’d probably say buy both lol but damn its expensive. Is gh5 really that bad in low light or aren’t there lenses that can improve lowlight capability of gh5?
If you have fast enough glass (f1.2 or lower), you'll get away with it in most situations, but it all depends. YOu have to decide what's more important. Stabilization or low light.
I have gh5 tooo and i prefer GH5+metabones or viltrox (metabones is a bit better) and canon glass (almost Canon colour :)) I have been working all year with adapters and if You lose adapter you can still use lens and You get extra stop of light aaaaanddd the most important and most valuable thing with adapter NO MORE DUST ON SENSOR!
Great Video guys! It would be great if you could also talk about ND filters, I want to know if we can screw the ND's and still put the lens hood on the olympus lenses. Anyone got experience with this ?
Thanks for the reply :-) , lens hood for me is huge to cut out all unwanted light. Please let me know if possible, wether you are able to thread it over the filter :-)
Sorry to be offtopic but does anyone know of a tool to log back into an Instagram account?? I was stupid forgot my login password. I love any tips you can give me!
@Bennett Tommy thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm in the hacking process atm. Seems to take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
All the guys who switching to the GH5, how you do it with your existing lenses? Because of the crop factor, it's a completely different range and you would need a lot of new lenses or not?
If you're using your previous lenses, they yes you have to consider the crop factor. That wasn't the case with me, as we bought all new lenses just for the GH5 and bought the right focal lengths we needed.
I have done weddings but I'm still fairly new...i think you need a good lowlight camera because the lighting changes abruptly specially in the reception as there are well lit spaces and dark corners at the same time.
I personally think you guys are nuts with your gh5. the cameras don't overheat at 1080p, and it takes about 40 min at 4k before you get a warning. the time limit can be removed by downloading an app (which i have done on all 3 of my a6300's), and a full battery charge will last me well over an hour and a half at 1080/60. I have 3 batts for each camera, and 3 chargers. with all 9 batts charged before a shoot i don't come even close to running out of battery. IMO all the minor annoyances dealing with the a6300 vs gh5, is 10x worth it for the just phenomonolly better low light, and dynamic range of the a6300. In anything but the most optimal light, gh5's look like absolute shit. everything looks like its under a heatlamp. No thank you.
You clearly have not tried the glass they are working with- fast primes overcome low light obstacles of a small sensor. Also, with the Sony- you have to decide ahead of time are you shooting for slow motion or for the ability to crop 4K into 1080- with weddings being as unpredictable as they are- I think 4K60 makes a lot of sense. I think Sony does a lot of things nicely- love the motion tracking- I have a RX100 Mk5 A on a Crane M for gimbal wide shots- but for bread and butter Panasonic is the way to go!
and another thing- b/c the IBIS is so much better on the Panny over the Sony- they can actually use the best lenses for their system handheld. On the Sony unless you are on a tripod or gimbal- you need both a stabilized body and lens- and then you still have to run it through software to even come close to a Panasonic stabilized body alone/
1) A lit wedding is a pro wedding. 2) If you’re pixel peeping instead of banging your partner your marriage is in trouble.
lol
I just used the GH5 for a wedding on the weekend and I just have to say how much of a beast it is. Didn’t let me down once and I couldn’t help but smile looking down at the insane footage it was capturing. Love my GH5.
We agree.

I knew you'd love it Andrew. It's just a rock solid camera.
Pablo! You need to take over bro! You were meant for the camera. Extremely likeable and the sincerity jumps out!

You guys are 1000% legit. Thanks so much for your guidance. Really learning a lot from you both.
I absolutely love my GH5! For run and gun stuff and events its been perfect!
missed kraig already :')

But still, it's on the back of my mind.
That's great. Some have better luck than others for sure.
I've shot dozens of weddings on Sony as well, inside, in AC and without fail, my Sony's overheated. Dunno man. They have QC issues for sure.
You guys are great. Nice format for the show !
I had been going back and forth (religiously) between the a7iii or GH5. Decided on pursuing a GH5. Currently have a G7 and just can't see how you can go wrong with the GH5.

GH5s arriving monday. Pretty pumped.

The GH5 is great!! I wonder how the pocket 4k will stack up considering its the same sensor! We have one arriving for use on our channel this week :)
Love your videos mate. Which Olympus lens would you recommend as my first lens for GH5?
Cheers!
Your images are beautiful! I own a GH5 and my biggest problem is color correcting footage. Are you guys planning on making a video talking about how you color correct your GH5 footage? Keep it up!
Thanks for the kind words. I'll definitely put it on the list of possible videos.
As a solo shooter, do you think I'll survive a wedding with just a Panasonic 25mm 1.7 and a Sigma 56mm 1.4? (Also a GH5 user)
Hi, I've lost the drive mode dial cover of my GH5 and I've been searching online to buy one but apparently could not get myself. Do you know where I could get one?
Wow. Nice to see you on this channel. Good luck. I love my Gh5. You can also fall in love with the G9. Give it a try. I love it as well.
Hello I'm a new subscriber, and this video was very helpful. One question, would you recommend this camera for RUclips prank videos?
So informative. Really enjoy this video.
Wise men only care if the end footage makes hearts pound faster, make clients cry for joy .. to them full frame means nothing
So what could be the sensor size that would be "enough"?
Great Video! Are you shooting on V-Log? If not, what Picture Profile are you using?
For sure the Gap between the GH5 and Sony cameras was pretty considerable.... until the a7iii. I think it’s a toss up at this point. I do a ton of gimbal work and really need that low light so for me, it’s Sony. Biggest feature I wish I had (queue a7siii?) is 4K 60. Good video guys!
Yup, definitely pros and cons of both for sure. The a7siii will be an impressive camera no doubt about it.
Thanks 👍
Hi, which lens you use for the church?
"A7iiis which will be out soon...." laughs in 2020
keep dreamin...
Awesome video as always! I’m really considering the viltrox speedbooster with a sigma 18-35 but damn that 25mm 1.2 looks awesome aswell! And that focus feature looks really useful!
Love the GH5, but yeah as you mention auto focus is extremely disappointing coming from Canon.
Excellent video! Can you post some links to previous videos talking specifically about focus technique. (where subject is moving)
ex.Bride walking down isle.
Thank you!
Not any specific videos on that yet.
Would love to know what photo style and settings you use as well 👌🏽
Louis P nobody cares about photo with a gh5 mate
Should I still consider buying a GH5 today if I shoot on micro 4/3?
Yes, it's a great camera.
Have you guys tried using the Panasonic g9? If so what did you think about it compared to the gh5?
do I understand correctly that you can have the Olympus lens with the manual clutch on and point autofocus? Can you then directly manual focus from that point without changing anything (clutch etc)?
This is great, if not the best, clip about wedding photography.. Thank you very much..
i use an a7sii for weddings, really hot summers and never has it overheated once.
Awesome.
Hi! what lens u use for gimbal shoots?
Sony cameras allow you to install an app for up to a 13h recording time. Still doesn't fix overheating though :(
dony doesn't overheat at 1080p, and at 4k it takes about half hour to get the warning
Hey Scott! what about 12-35 2.8 & 35-70 you used before?
One question. If I am adapting lens to gh5, is the ibis become not good as with native m4/3 lens? For sony seems this way. 5 axis become 3 axis if adpating lens to sony body.
Why you are not using Olympus 7-14 pro f2.8 or Olympus 17mm f1.2?
Love and appreciate the channel. I’m curious whether you’ve ever tried or considered using the Olympus 7-14mm F/2.8 PRO as a wide angle lens option???
Yes, I owned that lens first and I really liked it. I ended up getting rid of it because the only time I used that focal range was for vlogs and it was too heavy. I feel the 7-14 is too wide for most things.
Never knew about this channel... BUT SCOTT AND PABLO ARE HERE SO BOOM I'M SUBBED!
Awesome. Thanks for being here.
Cani use my Nikon optics with a methabones or other Brand?
Great info and nicely done...
I wish to see how and when u use the gh5s instead of the gh5 and how the image quality differs..
Good idea for a video.
Which memory cards do you use to record at the highest format on the GH5?
Sandisk Extreme Pro
Do u diliver only 6-7 mins video or the full 1 hr video?
GH5 + OLYMPUS M.ZUIKO 7-14 2.8 PRO with AF on gimbal... I RECOMMEND. 7-10mm is good
Nice video guy. Question, what is the file sizes like 1hr 4K 24P or 60fps
On a 128gb card, you can get 2hr 52 minutes of 4k 24fps in 8 bit, and 1hr 52m of 60 fps
So, you need these specific lenses for the manual focus + af button trick? It won't work with just any lens?
It works with any lens that's not manual focus ONLY (doesn't work with any Voigtlander lenses)
Hello. Love the video. I love olympus lens too. I have question. Do u use nd filters? Coz i have 7-14 and the lens is too concave and cant put filter unless i buy those actual glass. Do u use filter on ur olympus?
We use ND Filters on all our lenses when needed. We no longer use the 7-14.
thank you for your response,
Scott, i switched to sigma/metabones and regret it. LOOOOVEEE ZOOM....but i've had occasional freezes such that i lost footage of a tea ceremony (had backup camera but still)
Did You update FW on speedbooster and sigma lens?
well i gotta test out my new one. the one i had is two years old so even w/ firmware update it may be screwed but i hate that this can happen
Maybe you should consider going native lenses
Thanks for the video. I've been thinking a lot lately about making the switch to the GH5. I love my sony cameras but I'm also tired of making sure they don't overheat. I also hate not having the 4k 60fps option. Do you think the GH5 footage would blend in nice with Sony's footage? I'm trying to see if I can maybe keep my sony camera as a B cam.
Glad it was helpful. You can definitely match Sony with GH5. The key is working on a custom profile for both cameras so that it matches nicely IN camera. Don't wait till post.
Thanks. Love the new stuff you're doing with the channel. Keep up the good work!
Wow great review guys, and great to hear Pablo's voice... but on sony have any of you tried the fs5 for wedding videography
Tell me please, did you use AF on weddings? For example, when they walk into church, you use manual or af?
Manual focus.
What do you think about the new lens that's about to be released? 10-25mm
It will most likely have the same horrible fly-by-wire manual focus that all the other PanaLeicas have so it wouldnt be great to use really.
Agreed. I don’t like fly wire it’s so annoying
Hi, regarding the equivalent to the full frame format. Isn't the aperture also x times 2? So a 45mm, f1.4 lens is really 90mm f2.8 on the MFT system?
The aperture equivalent of depth of field changes, but not light. Meaning a 1.2 aperture still lets in the proper light of a 1.2 aperture on M4/3, but the depth of field changes.
have you heard about the new full frame sensor camera that they are coming out with? The S series! It's micro-four thirds as well. I'm sure you guys will swap to that.
The new cameras look great, we'll see what happens.
haha I bet you will :D bop me over one, haha kidding!
You should replace the Voigtlander with either the Panasonic 12mm 1.4 or the rumored soon to be announced Olympus 12mm 1.2.
I'll definitely consider it for sure.
What profile did you used at 20:25 min?
If only I choose one gh5s with all those olympus lenses, what gimbal do you guys recommend for the best result especially when doing manual focus?
amzn.to/2QqeU1g
Thx for recommendation :)
I still think it's super worth it. It's on sale for $1,700 right now which is just incredible for what you get from the camera.
What ND filter (variable or...)?
Guys I really need your help. I can’t decide between the gh5 and gh5s...😩
On the one hand I really need the lowlight of gh5s but then I also wanna shoot stills plus love the IS on gh5!!!
Wedding Film School Thank you. I already have a stabilizer so I think I’ll go with the GH5s. Thanx again🙏🏽👍🏽
can someone comment on record time with 4k 60p - he said about 6 hours at 4k 24p on a 256gb - what about 4k 60p ?
I'M switching for blackmagic pocket 4k!!
Paweł Goduń the prob is waiting on the back orders to get filled
I have gh5 tooo and i prefer GH5+metabones or viltrox (metabones is a bit better) and canon glass (almost Canon colour :)) I have been working all year with adapters and if You lose adapter you can still use lens and You get extra stop of light aaaaanddd the most important and most valuable thing with adapter NO MORE DUST ON SENSOR!
Give the opportunity yo Pablo to talk more
Great Video guys! It would be great if you could also talk about ND filters, I want to know if we can screw the ND's and still put the lens hood on the olympus lenses. Anyone got experience with this ?
We use ND Filters throughout the day all the time, but we do not use lens hoods. We've never used lens hood for video, that's just our preference.
Thanks for the reply :-) , lens hood for me is huge to cut out all unwanted light. Please let me know if possible, wether you are able to thread it over the filter :-)

"GH5 Review for Wedding"
I got a gh5 and a a7s2,i just prefer the a7s2,for me it's more versatile
No right or wrong camera, just the one you prefer.
@@WeddingFilmSchool absolutely my friend
You guys should try the 40-150mm olympus sometime and review it! Rent it or whatever
Sorry to be offtopic but does anyone know of a tool to log back into an Instagram account??
I was stupid forgot my login password. I love any tips you can give me!
@Hudson Wells instablaster ;)
@Bennett Tommy thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm in the hacking process atm.
Seems to take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Bennett Tommy it did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thanks so much you saved my ass!
@Hudson Wells glad I could help :)

No lie all my weddings are hand held
Ok I get it, it's an amazing camera. What's the price?!?!?!?! I waited 24 minutes to find out and still don't know
Have you heard about Google?
@@extender01 no? What's that?
@@AwwwFriend you should search for it. But do not type google into Google, you could break the internet.
Not necessary to put pricing in a video when it changes all the time. There's a link in description that answers your question pretty easily.
Prices changes all the time you know the name of the camera do some internet research.
missed kraig :)
👍🏻
So many words!)
Correct
I think GH5s would be better just because of better lowlight performance...
Is it worth it for losing IS?
I think yes. Simply because you can shoot without IS but you can not shoot without good light sensitivity
I have done weddings but I'm still fairly new...i think you need a good lowlight camera because the lighting changes abruptly specially in the reception as there are well lit spaces and dark corners at the same time.
If low light is important for you, no doubt. If not, then I think the GH5 is better.
@@WeddingFilmSchool at the end it all comes down to your creative style...dont you think? BTW great video
Glad it works well for you.
This video is exactly what a GH5 owner thinks.
Correct, that's what the review is about.
