  • [Part 2] In this episode we take a behind the scenes look at day 2 of my trip to Alaska's remote interior to target wild arctic grayling on the fly rod in a crystal-clear mountain river, originally documented in the video "Off the Beaten Path EP 1: Alaska Grayling Camp."
Day 2 was an exciting one. We started the day heading back down to the spot we had fished the previous day as it was right by camp, but after a couple of hours we decided that it was time to pack up and go exploring for the rest of the day and check out some new water that we had never fished before. We ended up hitting a few spots further down the same stretch of water, but ultimately decided that traveling down Alaska's famous Denali Highway would likely give us the best results so that is exactly what we did, and it paid off BIG TIME!
Check the video out and let me know what you think in the comments. THANKS EVERYBODY!

      Thank you!
Fly fishing is a TON of fun and I highly recommend giving it a try.
The advice I would give is that it takes a lot of time and patience to learn how to fish, especially fly fishing. Casting can be a real challenge for some people to master, amongst other challenges such as learning where and when to fish an area for the best results, what flies to use to best mimic the local fish's natural food source, ect..., so be patient and take your time learning, and you'll be rewarded with one of the most fun hobbies out there!
Another piece of advice, is everyone wants to start with the most expensive gear out there because it feels "cool" and they see the pros or guys in videos on RUclips using that rod or reel or whatever, and then find out they don't like fishing and they wasted all that money.
A good fisherman catches fish because he took the time to learn the ecosystem and the fish and how to effectively target them, NOT because he has a $600 pair of waders and a $1000 fly rod. So start small with getting a decent rod/reel setup (not complete junk, but not insanely expensive), some flies that mimic baitfish or bugs in your local area that the larger fish your targeting are eating, learn how to tie a leader to your fly line, and a fly to your leader, and most importantly, PUT IN THE TIME AND HAVE FUN. The only way to learn is LOTS of time spent on the water, but I would highly recommend going to your local fly shop (if you have one) and discussing with them rod/reel setup and flies, and that'll get you started in the right direction. If you don't have a local fly shop, go to your local regular old bait and tackle shop and ask them about what fish are in season and what they're eating, then you can take that info and convert it to a fly fishing application (if your local area is mostly saltwater fishing and you have big Jacks as the main Predator species and they're eating small baitfish, instead of a traditional swimbait like you'd use on a regular fishing rod you could fish a large streamer that imitates a swimbait on your fly rod, just as an example).
Also, another valuable resource is what you're already doing: watching RUclips!
Type in "how to flyfish in [this part] of Mexico" and I'm sure you will get PLENTY of results!
      Good luck!!!
