So true...I hired a résumé writer for almost $1000 who said she was an expert in the medicine/pharma industry and it was awful. She didn’t know what to highlight and how to frame my background in the best light for the new role I was going for. I ended up reworking it myself and got much better results.
Great video. i work in the logistics field. Originally no job hits, but i spent weeks scanning the internet for ATS enabled resume templates being displayed by resume writers ironically. As far as ATS or the recruiter is concerned, I think it depends on the application volume. For example, if Delta airlines posts a warehouse job in the atl, thousands of people apply. Always remember this, yes the recruiter will have the final look, but ATS can scan key words, but if the format is readable it can verify your time which is a filtering tool for recruiters.

Indeed! I'm just not a game-player or hoop-jumper. A company that expects applicants to do those things is a company that won't like me anyway even if I did play along, and I certainly wouldn't have any respect for the management. So don't play those games. Cross those employers off your list.

What about someone helping you write a resume? I had my mom help me write my resume since I didn’t know how to write one.
Definitely a good thing to have someone look it over to spot typos or obvious gaps. Maybe someone with HR or management experience can suggest changes to formatting or what junk to leave out.
But don't let anyone backseat drive your resume writing process, changing a lot of stuff around just to be a pompous know-it-all.

The other question around this subject is the subscription based resume template websites that charge a monthly fee. I used one and kept it for the first 3 months, but if there is a free version and once you get it set up it's important to get it in a format on your computer that is off the subscription based template. Do you have any thoughts around those services and benefits / drawbacks?

Why fill out an application and write a resume?
When I'm filling in an online application and it asks for the last ten years of job history, and it says "Don't put see resume", I put "see my resume" and then I quit. I"m not the kind of person they want to hire, and they're not the kind of company I'd want to be a part of.

By the way, if you have someone "review" it doesn't that mess with your confidence too, what you can't read and edit. What a maroon. So don't use a resume expert, use her career experts at $400 a year.
