@M1ATA56 yeah true, but they say things that don’t really matter, because graham tells us what we should do with your money they just say wake up at 4 in the morning..... then what?
I recommend tracking your spending manually! I have to because I have both us and UK accounts so can't use one of those apps, so every morning I wake up and put into an excel sheet what I spent the day before. It's crazy how much I have controlled my spending with this method because every cost I add to the excel sheet stings a little, and the more I buy, the more work I have to do!
I agree. I tracked manually with an app for a long time. Didn't have any transactions missing (like stuff paid in cash), didn't have to give anyone my bank info, and the daily practice of doing it kept my goals freshly in my mind.
Yeah- I did a “reset” for this year using the Google budget template. Because I’m in a strict spending plan, if I should over spend in a category it’s front and center which then encourages me NOT to do that. So far so good I am on track. I included a modest donate line as this is my motivator (this reminds me of my WHY). Very important for longevity IMO.
I usually can’t stand most channels about finance because most of them just seem so angry and too serious for no reason all the time. It’s refreshing to find a channel that’s actually more laid back with some humor here and there and shares some valuable knowledge in a simple way.👌🏽
Hmmm... sounds reasonable. I felt bad cuz I plucked down $2000 for an electric motorcycle. Looking at it this way, now I don't feel so bad. I could buy it 300 times.
Great stuff. I watch several youtube videos on how to trade in the stock market but haven't made any head-start because they are either talking some gibberish or sharing their story of how they made it.
@@maryamlumese6415 Yea, indeed great video though as beginner this is not the market for you right now but I believe this is the best time to invest so I will advice you go for the portfolio manager/investment expert.
I watch your videos every single day and I gotta say you are one of the reasons I am doing so good with my investments and in life. You are truly an inspiration. Thank you brother!
Same for me! I found this channel through Storyexpe, and since then I'm watching at least a couple of videos a day, from the newest to the oldest (still lot of to watch...).
1. Track your spending on a website, app, or just a regular paper notebook. It puts your money into perspective and stops you from over-spending. 2. Say NO to impulse buying ("want" buying). Instant gratification is the downfall of people with even the greatest income. Write down a "wishlist" and if you can justify buying something and still want it after a week or a month, go ahead and buy it. But really, do you _need_ the latest iPhone? Do you _need_ your Starbucks coffee _every_ day? 3. Stocks (investment). Make your money invisible - stocks, an untouched savings account, or real-estate. This is a great option to grow the money you were saving for an emergency. 4. Don't invest where you don't understand. You could get screwed over, not by a person, but by stocks and how they fluctuate. If you're not careful, you could lose thousands. 5. Don't time the market. Panic-selling means you are waiting for it all to collapse, when estimates for such are often wrong. You might sell at a lower price than you bought, only to realise the market never did crash - and now that it's on the way up again, it's too expensive to buy back in without making a major loss. You realise you could've profited from the recovery. Be careful! 6. Understand the tax code. If you can afford to, hire an accountant to help you with this. 7. Consistency. It won't work if you don't give attention to each of these things daily.
Don’t invest in things you don’t understand. Was given a stock tip when I got started and lost the entire amount due to the company filing bankruptcy. Fast forward, only invest in what you understand. Even better...things you use and can explain fully.
I ponder on how my retirement experience would generally feel like because I've not yet been able to save enough money and according to my spreadsheet I am few years closer to my retirement schedule.
You can start looking into investing in the stock market, it's one of the most liquidated market in the world with no limit to profits and in less than two months you should start saving in a bigger volume.

Rule #1 hits home hard. I started tracking all my spending in the month of November and continue to do it each day. Comparing my spending habits from November to December, I’ve cut down 78% on food spending and 24% on all spending just by being more mindful of where my money goes.
Remember guys, your like saves a financial RUclipsr's willpower to make more videos which in turn educates the population since the videos are in people's recommended, and makes people more money to sustain yourself, which helps save lives, which makes them more likely to have money left over to donate and help save lives. So by doing something as simple as smashing the like button, there can be really good positive consequences that you may have never imagined of.
"I haven't lost or gained any money in the stock market until I sell". - my favorite advice. Very Schrodinger's Cat. Another way of saying, "Leave your money in until there's a profit, (at the minimum)."
Well to be perfectly honest, in my humble opinion, of course without offending anyone who thinks differently from my point of view, but also looking into this matter in a different perspective and without being condemning of one's views and trying to make it objectified, and by considering each and everyone's valid opinion, I honestly believe that I completely forgot what I was going to say.
I actually love the making money invisible tactic. I work more on my side hustle because I don't have a lot of cash at all, and my net worth grows much faster. Plenty of time later in life to desire safety over wealth in my opinion.
These are good tips Graham but it's also the same information that has been regurgitated for decades by gurus who mostly make their income from writing self-help books. To the first point: Do not sign up for a budget tracking app like Mint. - Why? Because automatically tracking your spending prevents you from having to critically think about your spending habits. There is actually a huge psychological difference between manually doing the math between your income and expenses and understanding the "why" and the "where" your income flows from and where it goes. In addition to that; should Mint at any point in time decide to change their free-options; you lose part or all of your data. A simple Excel spreadsheet, pen and paper, or any number of free software is available to allow you to manually do the work. To the second point: you're right and I agree. Basically - do not buy things to buy things. View your hard-earned cash as a tool to reinvest in yourself in terms of property, education, charity, etc. To the third point: this is very misleading and not applicable to most people. - Why? Because you're speaking to people that are already successful and have the additional income to put it away in savings or investments. This is not pertinent to most folks who have no additional income. It's definitely not bad advice, but it's not applicable to most folks in the U.S. You even prove my point by discussing how you would "...only have a few thousand dollars in your checking account..." by the end of year. This is not relatable to most folks. Instead; you can make your money invisible by saving it anyway you can and using it as a tool to reinvest in yourself in the form of books/education, and tools that you can use to help grow your income. Something like a computer to learn to code with so you can get a better job, a hammer and tape measure to get a job on a construction site, a sewing machine to make masks and sell online. Fourth point: totally agree - it's called critical thinking/due diligence. Fifth point: Really not much to be said. Folks have been preaching the same thing for decades now. I didn't see many people selling near the bottom of the collapse. I think you're greatly exaggerating there and I worked in investment banking. None the less - the point stands. Cannot time the market. On another note; some of the best investors I know are actually the ones that do not hold. You can only make money holding if you have a lot of initial capital to invest with. Again, this is not pertinent to the average American. You can either buy and a hold a stock whose value you know will increase over the long-term (chip stocks such as AMD) but again, unless you have the money to buy at least a few hundred/thousand shares, your return simply won't be worth relative to inflation and opportunity cost. The other successful folks actually trade volatile options where you can leverage a bit. Can be more risky but that's up to the investor/trader. The sixth point: totally agree. Everyone should educate themselves on taxes and even a bit of tax law. Pickup a book that all CPA's use called "J.K. Lasser's 'Your Income Tax'". It is an invaluable resource. And also - try doing your own taxes as much as possible. It's education, you learn, and when you do it yourself coupled with a well-written book on the current tax laws, you can find ways to use the government to your advantage as much as possible. - It's important to know that the wealthier you are - healthier you are - the less you will have to fear of taxes to a degree. Currently, the $260k/annual gross income is really the large class-divider. If you can get to the point you're pretty much home-free so long as you're decently smart with you money. Also: tip for folks who cannot afford an accountant or especially a $500/hour attorney: chat with your local IRS folks and community college accounting professors/tax clubs. Especially before/after peak tax season. The IRS folks are usually not insanely busy and many are friendly and will help educate you on your taxes and current laws as best they can. The clubs and free services offered by local community colleges are always more than welcoming and in helping and teaching at no cost. In summation: Most of Grahams advice pertains to wealthier folks - this is not solid advice for folks living paycheck to paycheck. 1. Save your money 2. Reinvest what money you can in tools that will help you increase your income (computers, coding skills, books, hammers and tape-measures, sewing machines, etc) 3. Track your money manually. Save your receipts. Record your income and relative expenses. 4. Do not "impulse buy" 5. Research and learn about taxes 6. Avoid the stock market - invest in your 401(k)/save your money/reinvest in yourself. Only play the market if it's safe and you're willing to hold for a long period of time.
1. Go to bed early, wake up early. 2. Invest in yourself. 3. Track your spending. 4. Save a percentage of you income. 5. Invest as early as possible, and often as possible. 6. Buy assets, not stuff. 7. Smash the like button!
As a night owl I appreciate this video. So tired of people saying wake up early. Yeah that works if you’re a morning person if I wake up early I’m just a zombie all day

I think the trickle up effect is so true. By being mindful of the small things, it affects the big things that matter. Tracking my spending and creating a budget a year ago has been so helpful and eye opening! It has helped me slowly change my habits by looking at the data--it doesn't lie.

#3 is exactly what I was talking about with my family the other day! Just in general, even if you don’t have any big investments or things like that, in order to save money (even if that’s just a basic savings account or some cash set aside) you have to pretend like you don’t have it. If you have $1000 and you pretend you only have $100, then that other $900 is savings and basically doesn’t exist as far as spending and expenses are concerned.
I agree with all this , real practical info . Something I would like to add is that the majority of self made millionaires are extremely skilled in their craft whether it’s the ability to articulate thoughts in a video, marketing, athletes, investors , entrepreneurs.. etc Many people like to focus on the perception of being successful, instead of focusing the actual craft they are claiming to be successful in.
Solid input, classic financial advice. The trouble is people want what they want when they want it meaning all this advice usual goes out the window. Unless of course, the mindset is changed. I agree. I tracked manually with an app for a long time. Didn't have any transactions missing (like stuff paid in cash), didn't have to give anyone my bank info, and the daily practice of doing it kept my goals freshly in my mind.
100. God bless (1 Corinthians 15 KJV.)
Thank you for your insight sister!

I started tracking my expenses a month ago and it’s shocking how much those small “Insignificant” purchases add up😳
Consistency is 🔑
Anytime I have a financial question I literally just type in "Graham Stephan [Financial Keyword]". Never fails!

JUST DESTROY IT
Lol guys crack me up
These are good tips Graham but it's also the same information that has been regurgitated for decades by gurus who mostly make their income from writing self-help books.
1. Save your money
2. Reinvest what money you can in tools that will help you increase your income (computers, coding skills, books, hammers and tape-measures, sewing machines, etc)
3. Track your money manually. Save your receipts. Record your income and relative expenses.
4. Do not "impulse buy"
5. Research and learn about taxes
6. Avoid the stock market - invest in your 401(k)/save your money/reinvest in yourself. Only play the market if it's safe and you're willing to hold for a long period of time.
@Graham Stephan What is the number for?
1. Go to bed early, wake up early.
2. Invest in yourself.
3. Track your spending.
4. Save a percentage of you income.
5. Invest as early as possible, and often as possible.
6. Buy assets, not stuff.
7. Smash the like button!
