Okay but we can we talk about how Cinderella’s hair color was changed?! It was this lovely orangy blond color and they had to platinum it.
They really should have gone the other way with the dolls. If they were going to insist Cinderella was blonde (grr) she should have got the golden tone and Aurora get the platinum color.
Cinderella is literally my fave (alongside Tiana) and seeing her be done so dirty by Disney really saddens me

Yes! I hate that they made her platinum, i think they also added chunky highlights at one point ugh. My hair is similar to her original(blonde but more honey/strawberry) and the sun turns it lighter and a brighter golden blonde shade so they should've gone with a really warm golden blonde if they wanted to make her more blonde

Wow, today's the first time I have noticed that they've swapped Cinderella and Aurora's hair colours in the marketing. I love Cinderella's original hair colour! Just waiting for the day they release some nice, movie-accurate dolls and refresh the whole thing.
I think her eyes appear violet in that scene because of the lighting in the scene. Even her blue dress appears more purpley.

Agreed. This seems to be what led people to think Cinderella's dress is blue as well.
Maybe it's like Elizabeth Taylor: technically they're blue but because of a slight genetic mutation (don't panic, I'm not talking about this Alexandria gene bullshit) that makes her blood verses more visible in certain light, they look purple. And let's just say that for Elizabeth, Hollywood always had the right light for it. A friend of my sister's has the same mutation but because her eyes are hazel, they appear vaguely orange (again with the right light and sometimes the right accessories).

The animated Cinderella as a ginger? Never heard that one. She always seemed very blonde to me. (Unless you’re talking about the hundreds of other Cinderella portrayals by Anna Kendrick, Anne Hathaway, Brandy, Selena Gomez, Lesley Ann Warren, Leslie Caron, dang this is a long list. Lol).

@@the.h.is.silentyes, silver was apparently too wedding dress like and they can't sell wedding dresses to children so they had to make it blue, forcing Aurora's normally blue dress pink which she wore for only 13 seconds, Cinderella and Aurora are also very similar so they had to change her hair and eye color for marketing ❤

Could you do a video talking about the colour symbolisation in Beauty and the Beast. How a deep red represents the opposite of love and what Belle hates (with Gaston and The Beast when she first is introduced to him), and blue to represent Belle's love of things and her individuality and what she cares for (her dress and book during Little Town; the library in The Beast's caslte; and The Beast's suit during the famous ballroom scene).

Maybe because of the lighting in the scene when she wakes up? They look blue but it's kind of like the black and blue dress some people may see it as more purple/violet.
Yes I definitely see how you could look at the picture and think that they are violet. Like I don’t think making her eyes violet in marketing was an arbitrary choice
@@Franziii987 definitely. In that scene, Aurora's eyes don't look "as blue" as Cinderella's. They look Indigo, so it makes sense that they went for a violet shade instead of a light blue one.
It's more like perrywinkle to me, not quite violet but more lavender than the light blue parts of her dress

If u see the dress in that scene ( which is blue ) and then see the curtains behind/ the background ( which is violet/ purple whatever) and see her eyes, they look more in the group of the curtain than her dress.....i think for whatever reason, even if her eyes were blue,they look lavender/violet/purple in that kiss scene. I always thought the og animated Aurora had an eye color like Liz Taylor's. Liz Taylor also had eyes which were sometimes considered violet but are more of a blue with a faint purple hue.

It's actually a genetic mutation (not that bullshit alexandria gene, don't worry) that because of more visible blood vessels, causes the blue eye to look purple in the right light (and makeup on occasion). A friend of my sister's has the same mutation but as her eyes are hazel, they have a tint that sometimes looks orange instead. She liked to make the children she babysat believe that she was secretly a werewolf. XD
For a couple seconds in the film her eyes are truly violet. This occurs in the scene when Aurora returns back to the cottage, and receives her new dress. When she says "Everything is so wonderful, just wait till you meet him" her eyes appear to be violet

The same way Cinderella's dress appears blue for a few shots in the ball dance scene. That doesn't make her dress blue, it's still silver. It's a lighting matter.

Violet eyes isn't too much of a stretch since some shades of blue tend to read as violet, i.e Elizabeth Taylor, but yeah in the movie those are definitely just blue
These videos always remind about how Kida from Atlantis isn’t considered Disney Royalty in any way even tho she’s a princess and then becomes queen in the movie.
It's because disney tries to distance itself from movies that didn't get much traction in the 90s, atlantis, disney princess sequels, Hercules and even tarzan a little.

I think it looks violet because of the color correcting done on the film. Because they look like the same color as her sleeves, but as we know that dress is supposedly blue. So I guess in the in film universe the eyes are also blue, even tho they low key look lilac/violet

At first I thought you where right, but I watched the movie the other day and there is a scene in the well lit cottage when they celebrate her birthday. Her eyes are DEFINITELY purple. I think ill chock this up as the same thing that changed Cindy's dress, blue shading.
Also, every one's eyes are inconsistent in that film so that could be the culprit.

There’s no Mandela effect/myth going on. Look at her eyes in the scene where she gets back to the cottage after meeting Phillip. They’re violet. Maybe indigo at bluest. It’s an inconsistency in the film, so she doesn’t really have a definitive eye color, but the scene where she has purple eyes does come before the blue one so idk.
ALSO, the Disney Princess franchise was launched in 2000, but Aurora already had violet eyed art and dolls in 1991.

Aurora has light indigo eyes in the film. When she returns to the cottage and after her fairy godmothers refuse that she visits the stranger ( Prince Philip ) you can see her eyes close up. This even applies to the fairies. Merryweather has blue eyes, Fauna has chestnut brown eyes and Flora has sienna eyes

i still think her eyes veer towards violet.. i imagine Disney gave Aurora the "Elizabeth Taylor" treatment to her eyes.. where Taylor actually has blue eyes, but was consistently marketed as having violet eyes... so they gave the Princess periwinkle eyes (not quite blue, not quite violet).
I think her eyes KIND of look like violet because of the editing/color correcting done in the film.
I hate to say this because it makes me sound so pathetic: I watch Sleeping Beauty (1959) almost daily. There are more scenes with her eyes colored as violet than they are colored blue. The only blue scene is at the end of the movie when Philip wakes her up. It’s not a Mandela effect; her eyes are literally violet

Aurora's eyes appear as three different shades in the film. They are either solid black in the wider shots, purple in the close ups or blue in the extreme close ups. Therefore her eyes are just as validly purple as they are blue, although you could argue that the violet gets a couple more seconds screen time. So they can be what ever colour you want, and I like purple better so 😛. I feel like her eyes appear more purple in the cottage scene (36 minutes into the film) because that colour compliments the warm lighting and colours of her peasant frock. At the end her eyes are blue because that scene is cast in a blue hue and her dress is also that colour. I also think the deep red of her lips makes a pretty combination with the blue, and this is probably why the cell painters chose to make her eyes this colour in this scene.
You didn't look at the scene where Briar Rose comes back to the cottage after meeting Phillip for the first time! In that one, in every close-up, her eyes look violet! The only reason I think you could still be right is because they look like a bluer violet in the close-up of her waking up, and so maybe Disney goofed and made them look more violet in the other scene when they are supposed to be blue. But the cottage scene I mentioned is huge evidence they could be violet! Also, as an asnwer to why would a Disney Princess have a non-realistic or humanly possible eye color, It could be because Flora gave her the magical gift of beauty, so she has a magically beautiful eye color!

I gotta start checking out my aurora stuff. I'm pretty sure my aurora Christmas stocking from the 1990s-early 2000's has has blue eyes but my plushie has violet eyes. So yeah, they love to change her a lot.

If I may mention that scene where Aurora returns to the cottage to discover her birthday cake and dress: her eyes happen to be coloured in the wide shots of that scene! But the colouring is a bit difficult to construe-it looks like a periwinkle or lavender or some blend of those two with blue.
Regardless I like to think her eyes are purple since she has quite literal enchanted beauty; gaining an impossible eye colour would signify that in a very delightfully subtle way!
EDIT: I’ve rewatched the movie and the aforementioned where she returns to her new Birthday Gifts, her eyes appear decidedly darker than I remember, definitely more purple than periwinkle, although this is from watching it on Disney+ so I’m unsure how true this holds for the original footage. Regardless this definitely does make the case a more something of a grating inconsistency. Although I do stand by what I said in the above paragraph.

Purple is literally an impossible eye colour; all across the Disney Animated Canon human characters are depicted with real eye colours all across the board. Moreover purple here is merely what is said to be Aurora’s eye colour across the various media depictions and marketing. As I’ve mentioned before, Aurora having purple eyes appeals to me as a small detail to remind you of the fact that Aurora was explicitly blessed with magical gifts.

The scene where her eyes are most visible is also a half-lit bedroom with heavy shadows. It's the same as the argument for Cinderella having a blue dress because during a NIGHT TIME scene OUTSIDE, shading is blue.
It's just animator shortcut for darkness. Her eyes were blue and not well lit. That's it.
Aurora wears coloured contacts: FACT
I've read that in some early sketches Aurora's character design was inspired by Elizabeth Taylor, and in those sketches the animators drew her with Taylor's eye color. And even though Disney eventually decided to go another way with Aurora's look, there are still some instances in the film where they used the "Elizabeth Taylor eyes". So that may be one source for the confusion.
They’re blue because in the close up Aurora is in a dark tinted room, making her blue eyes appear violet. But people with violet eyes don’t even really have violet eyes, they have blue or maybe blue gray that resemble violet, like Elizabeth Taylor (Taylor’s eyes were dark blue but they appeared violet with certain makeup clothing and lighting) . So really Aurora is unique and different from the other princess in that she has those blue eyes that can appear violet. Whereas Cinderella just has blue eyes.

I always thought her eyes were violet the way that everyone talks about Elizabeth Taylor's eyes being violet. They are still technically blue but have that slight violet hue that makes it special .

I have a theory: disney associates violet with their villains. Maybe they chose violet for their marketing to emphasize that fact that aurora was under a spell in her storyline

I have grey eyes and they seem to change color all the time - blue, green, etc.
That’s basically me with Hazel eyes. The outer part is blueish green while the inner part has brown and yellow, so depending on what I’m wearing my eyes can look green, greenish blue, and occasionally grayish green.
I think Aurora’s eyes were originally going to be blue, but were instead violet, because Disney previously made a princess who is a blue-eyed blonde, which is Cinderella and both Princesses look very similar to each other. I do think Disney decided to choose violet for Aurora in order to avoid any confusion with another princess that made her debut in the same decade (which is once again Cinderella I’m referring to), overall Aurora’s eye color is beautifully unique and Disney should keep her with that eye color more often to show the character’s unique beauty.
There are more shots in the movie where we see her eye color, and there they do look more violet than blue (look at the scene about 37:56 in the movie, when she returns to the cottage)

Finally someone mentioned Auroras hair. I wish they would have kept her platinum like in the film and have had Cinderella keep her golden blonde

People also say Elizabeth Taylor's eyes were violet, but I think it has more to do with the deep gray-blue contrast of her eyes next to her black hair/dark eyelashes that creates the purplish illusion. Purple just isn't a natural eye color.

Disney did something similar with Belle! Back in the 90s, Belle dolls nearly always had bright green eyes, but now, she’s almost always portrayed with brown eyes-yet in the film her eyes are distinctly hazel!

i watched the film a while ago and yes I notice her eyes like change, also wifh merryweather, half way thru the film, her eyes turn blue, but originally they were brown.
We also have to remind ourselves that not everyone sees the same colors, I mean for some people this shade is violet, for others it's blue, I think it has a lot to do with subjectivity. I always thought of them as blue, but I can see why people would rather see them as violet.

Honestly, it could be an inside joke on the animators' part as violet would be the combination of blue and pink and the whole fairies arguing over the dress color came about because the animators couldn't settle on what color to make her dress so they put it in the story.

I don't know if I'm the only one that always thought she had both eye colors? I always remembered when she tells the fairy godmothers she met someone on her birthday that her eyes looked violet. But I ALWAYS remembered in her close up when she awoken by the kiss, her eyes are blue. Maybe that's just me, but I always focused on her hair design it's GORGEOUS.

I actually never bothered to research her eye colour. But I was always under the impression that her eyes are bluish violet. Princess Aurora is actually the reason why I fell in love with pale blonde hair and violet eyes and think they're the perfect combi.

I would like to consider her eyes being blue violet since it's more closer to blue than violet alone. That's the real tea.
I also wondered this for years subconsciously like why the heck is it violet when in the film, it's mostly black! That's where I checked the artworks of the designers and animators and it appears to be violet but leans more into the cooler tone, hence I concur, blue violet for me is her eye color.

About the dolls, I don't understand why should they be confused with one another. Aurora's hair is much longer than Cinderella's, not to mention the different hair and eye color (NOT in merchandise, though. I'm still confused on why they changed it. Sure it could have been for color coding and distincting them, but Cinderella and Aurora were already looking different! What about Jasmine and Pocahontas, though? They both have long black hair and brown eyes and stay the same in merchandise. Maybe because Pocahontas' skin is a little darker than Jasmine's? I don't know...)

There are technically people out there with eyes that are blue but register as violet on camera or in certain lighting situations - like Elizabeth Taylor. We all know that Elizabeth's eyes were not violet (they were deep blue), but the way she was photographed made them appear that way. Maybe the Disney marketing team took a page out of her book!
There is an instance where Aurora eyes do appear as purplish, back when she excitedly tells her aunties that she met someone n theres a close up wit said color 4 a brief moment. Anyways liz Taylor was often claimed to have had purple eyes but in reality they were blue but at certain angles can appear purple. Same thing wit Aurora, I feel, but honestly, this was animated at a time when color was done by hand n paint so colors weren't always consistent, know what I mean +_0
