So happy I found you,ive had 6 Saabs and I finally found one with less than 80k on it, a 2005 Saab 9-3 ARC Convertible, and I have a chipped-up bumper and a few spots I need to take care of as well...when I popped the hood I realized it wasn't the same as my last 2002 9-3. Still, once I saw 4 screws exposed the injectors and plugs I was so happy...the person had "rigged a few things to last only a week or 2, but for me, they are easy fixes, he sold the car to me and said there were no issues, and when I got halfway home the check engine light went on, the rear brake light went to toast and the hydraulic fluid leaked out. then had the balls to tell me he would fix cyc 4 and the roof for me for 250$ lol batsht crazy land...
Did something similar to my 2006 9-3 sportcombi. Was my first time trying anything like that. 197k miles on her and she’s still going. Gutsy to do that outside and if only one bug took a wrong turn then you did pretty well. Looks fantastic! At one point I thought you lost that hood but your patience paid off. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Corey, Excellent video, great results too. Subscribed. Just bought an 85 Mercedes 300D that needs a lot of clear coat repair, this is inspiring ! Thanks, Ross (in Maine)
amazing work at cutting and blending it in. !!!! question is it better to wet buff or dry buff? i see there is alot of water when you apply the mirror glaze
Dry time is pretty fast, I would say less than 15 minutes. Here is a video I made on cutting and buffing years ago that is much more complete ruclips.net/video/Ztr7aMKjBpw/видео.html
thank you for the video. Had a question - the spots I am dealing with look like your hood. Most are smaller but have a couple that size. Would it be worthwhile and a good idea to start with 1000-1200 paper instead of 600-800 so I can avoid base coat disturbance if possible? May take longer, but its towards beginning stages and if i DIY I am trying my best to not disturb the base coat. Thank you
@@coreysgarage6389 My clear coat is kind of fading...when I touch it has powdery white substance...not much fading, but little white powder spots here and there? Can I just wet sand with 600 grit and apply just a clear coat (without applying base coat) ?? Because fading is not very much and I think factory base coat is still intact
That is amazing work! Great video! My only question sir, when you applied the compound you wet the surface while you buffed out the application. What is the advantage of that process?
Awesome stuff! The clearcoat on my '06 is horrible, and I haven't yet decided what method I want to take for addressing that, but this gives me some good info should I go this route. A question: You mentioned fiberglass and filler, but then you skipped past doing that part and just showed the finished work. For one who is completely new to the world of bodywork, could you give any more directions, or maybe make or link to another video that addresses that portion directly?
Yeah great job but you didn't show all your prep work missing out what sanding you did wet or dry what grit grade did you use no info on priming and painting technique

Top job fella, looking to do something similar to my Volvo, this video has given me the confidence to give it a try!
Good luck to you!
Great Job, I’m about to start a clear coat repair on my car, great advice
Good luck, hope it comes out nice for ya.

Looks great Corey. I’m glad you were able to blend it.
Thanks Jason!
Thanks bub! Passed this on to my friend for his SAAB.😊🙏
Thanks man.
Good job man, you definitely have really good skills!!
Thank you, I appreciate it!
"Half-assed" 😄

Did I say that?

That's a great job, and very good presented the whole process! thank you for sharing! I'm on a similar process on my Xterra!
Thank you, good luck with the Xterra
good job inspired me to have a go at my 1991 pug 309 currently in 'ferrari orange'
Awesome, good luck!
The paint match looks great! I have an 01 9-5 Aero wagon in midnight blue metallic. You said O'Reilly's did the mix?
Yes O'Reilly's was able to mix it and inject into an aerosol can.

Thanks, I prefer to use water when I buff but I don’t expect everyone will agree.
I would have like to have seen how you did the fibreglass and filler work too. Maybe next video?
I’m trying to remember if I even did fiberglass and filler on this project… sorry I didn’t cover it if I did.
If you would have clear coated the entire hood, (upper part) how would you have prepped it? Light sanding? Or just good cleaning?
Light sanding
Good job. Looks pretty damn good, for $50 in paint.
Thank you!
My friend wants to know what size sandpaper you used to remove the peeling clear coat
600 grit will work well to feather it.
@@coreysgarage6389 thank you
Hi...Corey, could you tell where to buy the U-POL paint ? My Saab is 2005 9-3 Aero also in Laser Red ... Thanks a lot !
I bought it from Orielly’s.
@@coreysgarage6389 Thanks a lot !
What is the dry time between coats? Can you let us know what you're using for pads on your equipment during each step?
Dry time is pretty fast, I would say less than 15 minutes. Here is a video I made on cutting and buffing years ago that is much more complete ruclips.net/video/Ztr7aMKjBpw/видео.html

You could try it but it’s very unlikely you will be able to feather the edges of the clear without disturbing the base coat.
red is tough ..what I wanted to see thanks alot
Hope it helps!
Still got the car Corey? I’ve got an 08 9-3 sedan in laser red and an 07 9-3 convertible in silver
I don’t, I sold it.
You got it!!
Thanks, I think it came out pretty good.

The water provides a sort of lubricant and prevents the compound from drying out.

Never seen anyone wet polish a car before. Interesting. 🤔
